Wonder Woman looks a little too manga for my liking.  Batgirl is great, Supergirl is fine.

The talent is there, but I can look at covers online anytime I want.  What's inside the book to make me want to pay for it?

I couldn't care less what's inside. I bought them to place in a mylar and perhaps a frame too. I bought them more as pieces of art than comic books. I like reading and smelling old comics. I wouldn't like to read these books at all. The thought of reading them didn't even enter my mind to be perfectly honest, only the thought of how best to display them and where in my house? I'm sure that statement will go down like a lead balloon with some of you lot but that's the truth of it.

  2. Show me someone who hates these covers and I'll show you a liar!

I'm not a huge fan of moderns (except Star Wars) but it's hard to hate such beautiful work. I see a cover like this, I'm buying it, no questions asked :D

I have over 800 modern star wars, down to just buying the action figure covers now and any that looks so nice I can't pass (like these three). Yea they sucked me in good on that but I don't care, I enjoy them and that's what counts.

  3. The Flash 35 book lot

This is my first sales post and I hope it will be my first sale here. I'm looking to sell these books asap before I change my mind. I will not split them so it's all or nothing. I live in England, they will go out via the best service, tracked and insured worldwide for £40 ($50). Payment via PayPal only. I will send a full invoice. No returns, so please do not jump in and buy unless you are 100% sure they're for you! First :takeit:takes them.

Some of these books are really very nice indeed. Here are scans of them all. If you need any more info or back cover scans, I'll get on it. The scans of the best ones are in mylar, it's crystal clear, but if you want the book shown outside the bag or shots of the insides of the books I'll sort it. I think that covers all of the rules. I won a cool prize in the raffle and sent out my own prize too which was well received. That's the only deal I've done here.

Enjoy perusing these gems of the Silver and Bronze ages. They are all looking for a new home. Sorry Flash :D

Looking for £550 which is $711.51 according to google at this instant. Works out on average at just over £15 per book, considering the nice condition of them and a couple of minor keys I think this is very fair. Or... Try your luck and make an offer, I don't bite, well not unless poked anyway!

Oh and here's my eBayhttps://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/barkeuk_sdwax?_trksid=p2047675.l2559 If you see anything there you might fancy too then let's work something out. Cheers

how did you remove the tape?

    .....

Actually, with very little effort at all. I think this 'modification' was made many, many years ago, the tape had almost no grab at all left to it and just came away easily, but it's left most of the glue on the book. I've read this tape glue residue can be removed but I'll not be attempting that. There is still a piece of tape on the inside front cover I'm leaving alone too.

The staples were removed with needle nose pliers. I didn't like that the book wouldn't open fully with the added staples in place. And I figured my removal of the tape and staples wouldn't affect the already rock bottom grade. Please correct me if I'm wrong about any of this.

Here's a quick snap of what came off it minus one staple that's been lost. Just look at that tape! It's set in the shape of the book it was added too, my guess 40+ years ago! And that corner is from another book lolDSC09942.thumb.JPG.ecc6a339c2afba93c69e79a8cb867cf5.JPG

to answer your question specifically, it is not allowed on these boards. You have to state exactly what is for sale and a price. (Then there are lottery laws and such but that point is moot.)

I see. What if the 1000 books were all listed? What if you just say it's $5 per book and your book is chosen at random, what then?

I did consider doing this exact same thing on eBay. The only downside I see is that if your big book goes in the first 100 then it will make it harder to sell the rest, and you'd need to sell them all to make it work. That and you might get negative feedback when at the other end your West Coast Avengers #37 is purchased and returned by someone like BITCOINSWAMI :roflmao:

I'm thinking it could work, that's all. They are all over eBay and all they get is drek! People buy them anyway. There is zero chance anyone who ever buys a grab bag gets anything like a key book. They get Web of Spider-Man or some other rubbish... One that was legit would be great for everyone concerned. I could pull out 400 books, charge 12.50 each sell all 400 and have 5k. If your top book is something like a nice giant size X-Men #1 or similar and the cost off all of them together is 3k or so then it's worth doing.

  7. Does beg the question. Why is no one on here running a grab bag sorta thing? With a legit chance to win something good? With say 1000 books and a who's won what type of list so we can see what's gone and what's still there. Charge $5 per book or $15 for three. That's five grand, have your top book be worth a grand or something, have ten in the 50-100 range and 50 in the 25 range... Let the rest be drek or low grade silver and bronze.

I would go for it, the chances would be slim, but the chance would be there at least, which it is just not with an eBay grab-bag. No one cares about wasting $5-25 a month so no one loses but just imagine winning something like an Action #252 for your $5... I'd definitely have a go at the end of each month

  8. Well it arrived, and I'm a little disappointed with the condition. I removed the tape and three extra staples that went straight through the book. And the piece of cover that was from another book! Of course the cover is now detached, but at least it opens up fully. Anyway, it's on eBay, it's not the book I was hoping for and it's not staying in my collection for long... The hunt continues!

  9. That's quite surprising to read that they will grade it as if the tape wasn't there, I do wonder though, it says cellophane tape, looks like duct tape or masking tape was used on this one, since we can't see through it must surely affect the grade... And that top right corner lol

I do want it removed already, spoils the look. If anyone can recommend a specialist I'd appreciate it.

  10. Hi folks, I agreed a deal on an X-Men #1 woohoo! But it has this awful tape all over it, and what looks to be another piece... From another book no less, added to the top right corner of the cover! I hope to have it here tomorrow. These are the only (terrible) pictures I had to work with. I'm wondering can, or should, this tape be removed? Is it something I might tackle myself or might I have a professional look at it? Is it restoration to remove the tape? Once the work was done, what grade could it reach?? I will take some better pics once it lands.

    Cheers, Dan

  11. A trial by combat should be the only way to AGGRESSIVELY sort out a mess like this. Employ The Mountain as your champion and these clowns might think twice before trying to sue!

    Spoiler

Americans have probably only heard of "trial by combat," if at all, from watching HBO's popular fantasy series, "Game Of Thrones."
Some have argued, however, that based on an obscure loophole, the U.S. might actually permit this archaic form of justice.

The supposed right dates back to Middle Ages common law, which followed Germanic tradition in allowing two parties to settle a dispute through combat in cases lacking sufficient evidence for a conviction.

Trial by combat was still part of the law in 1773, when British Parliament unsuccessfully tried to ban it in response to the Boston Tea Party.

Indeed, it was still allowed in a murder case in 1818, when a British court ruled a defendant could invoke his right to trial by battle even though no one had used the practice for centuries. That man, Abraham Thornton, got off scot-free when his opponent never showed up for the fight. A year later, British Parliament finally pulled trial by combat from the books.

British common law matters because the 13 original colonies inherited it, according to Lawrence Friedman's comprehensive "History of American Law."

Although the U.S. Constitution, which took many cues from British common law, did not mention trial by combat, some scholars argue citizens should possess rights until the government specifically limits them.

"The Ninth Amendment says that the enumeration of certain rights in the Constitution does not mean that the people don't have other rights too," Adam Winkler, a specialist in American Constitutional law, told Business Insider.

Thus a defendant in the U.S. could at least make an argument for trial by combat — but the burden of proof would be on the claimant.

"They'd have to prove that it was lawful in Britain when the Founders created the Constitution and that they didn't intend to outlaw it," Winkler said.

Indeed, trial by combat could be seen as violating other parts of the Constitution, such as due process and cruel and unusual punishment.

"Trial by combat might fail to satisfy due process because the outcome of the case would clearly be determined by force instead of careful weighing of the facts," Winkler said. "But then again, the Framers did have duels. It's arguable that they intended trial by combat to be a part of due process."

Unfortunately for legal theory, no U.S. citizens have tried to sword-fight for their freedom.

Another British guy tried it in 2002, however, as Leon Humphreys, a 60-year-old, unemployed mechanic, claimed he could answer to his $40 traffic ticket by fighting a clerk at the Driver And Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) with Samurai swords. In his mind, European human rights legislation would still allow it, but the British court obviously rejected his proposal.

How would a U.S. court respond?

"I think it would be a very short case," Winkler said. "No court is going to take that claim seriously. It's a completely inappropriate remedy for modern society."

They are much rarer after 1980, but I have some in my collection as late as 1987. I don't have this date, though - the only book I have from 1982 with a date is from December, and it's a pen arrival date rather than a stamp.

Good to know, it will be quite a find if one pops up then. Cheers.

  13. Nice topic. I like a date stamp. Were they still stamping them in 1982? If they were and if anyone has July 18th :takeit:
