  1. Damn, look at those shelves buckle from the weight. Wise move to change, I’m sure you miss the display though. How many books is this? I know someone with about 600 graded books in just one series and I can’t wrap my head around how much space that would take up,
  2. Note that the problem with Fireproof safes is not humidity, but something about the chemicals that the fireproof material gives off that can cause corrosion. Yes, low humidity is very important but was not the primary cause that led CGC to put up that post. It was the materials in the SentrySafe. If you have books in one of those, get them out ASAP and use another solution listed here. Your best defense is good research.
  3. That is EXACTLY the brand of safe that guy had the rusted staple in. It is very popular and I had my books in one for about a year then pulled them out when I read that thread. I then bought a large (2.2CF) non-fireproof safe that I bolted to the floor. It is basically a thick metal box with a digital lock that I got on Amazon for $150.. Will hold about 25 slabs vertically, with room for some other valuables at the top (though they are in my other safe and I also have a gun safe. I won't put comics in the gun safe due to strong chemicals in the air like bore cleaner). Anyway, I would be screwed if there was a fire but willing to take that chance vs. documented proof of a safe that damages comics and other items.
  4. I’ve heard this was a running joke for a while (aliens) and they did a spoof on it. Where can I find that? Would live to read it.
  5. That could lead to a VERY bad trip!!!
  6. I use silver and golden age books for toilet paper
  7. That looks like Eddie - the Iron Maiden mascot. Maybe that is the reason for the guitar?
  8. That is really cool! Hope to discover one someday. Likely less expensive than rare comics like the Hyundai variant since it is not part of a set.
  9. I follow an evergreen ongoing series - The Walking Dead - and sometimes major plot lines develop over 12 months of issues. So I have the following reading ritual each time a new book comes out: 1. Re-read last month's issue 2. Read the new issue twice, getting a chance to savor the artwork 3. Read the reader letters 4. Submit a letter myself if I've got good insights I think other readers will value. Do you have a ritual for how you go about reading your monthly books?
  10. I did it! With this book Walking Dead #79, I have completed #1 to 191 with most regular issue variants (no convention editions, there are like 100 of those) plus all 60 of the 15th Anniversary Variants (3 magazine holders on the top right), not going after the five 1:100 copies. First 27 are all CGC 9.8 Signature Series and #28 onward are NM/NM+ raw books. Took a while for a good NM copy of #79 to show up on eBay. It was an 18 month project. Now for my big goal, 1-50 all CGC 9.8 Signature Series, which will require new signatures so expect that to take a while.
  11. Can’t read the new issue until tomorrow so must go dark. Then a 5 week wait until #192... ugh.
  12. Those Moore sketches are awesome, never see any like that before. And 2008 is really early in the TWD universe.
  13. It's green label and just says sketched in marker. Maybe a high school student did it? JK, but Sensei Ryan how did these make it onto the market? Obviously as individual book, not through Sig Series... Just wondered how you learned about it and where they all are. Did Charlie do 25 different characters?
  14. Wow, you've showed me this before but not this big. I think it is really cool Charlie left in the pencil lines on Andrea's face as reference points. You know, if you ever want to sell this...
  15. Hey Ryan, that is awesome. The label says the sketch is front and back. Do you have a pic of the reverse?
  16. Here is his top of the line commission. More info (and an amazing gallery) at https://www.coloneltonymoore.com sold out Premium Commission 1,000.00 Commission your own custom drawing, to be rendered much like the Sketch Of The Day! pieces offered here. Dimensions are generally anywhere from 8.5" x 9" to 9" x 12", depending upon paper availability and my general whim. Paper is typically toned paper or chipboard. These pieces are to feature ONE fully-rendered character of your choosing. I typically do portrait/bust shots, but may include more of the figure if i decide to. Backgrounds are moderate, and may be suggested, but will ultimately be drawn as I see fit. These sketches will be posted as part of my Sketch Of The Day! content, and may take up to 3 weeks to be completed.
  17. Tony has on his website that TWD #1 to #6 signatures are $100. Regular TWD signatures are $20 as is any book to be submitted to CGC for $20. His comic sketch price is $200. I sent in an e-mail and asked if the signature and sketch prices were additive and his wife answered no, if you pay $200 for the sketch then the signature is not extra.
  18. I know Tony charges $200 for a sketch. Can you give me a range for the price of a full cover? That Ryan Ottley is way beyond a sketch - that thing is a completed cover!
  19. Those full covers are amazing. When do they have time at shows to do that where CGC can witness it?
  20. Yes, the best company is PCGS (most conservative and get the best coins) Someone paid $80K for a penny and when they put it up for auction, a flaw in the coin was discovered. PCGS wrote the guy a check for $80,000. I'm sure NGC has honored many but I stopped coin collecting in 2006.
