  1. I love the guys who have been members from before the launch....
  2. "Manufactured collectible" is a term that describes something made on purpose to sell for more money than usual, to declare itself a "collector's item", or to be a (ratio) incentive to generate more orders. Newsstand books didn't do any of those things. Sure, that makes sense. But that's your definition. Personally I don't like the term, was just joking around. Everything is manufactured and everything is collectible to someone, so it has no real meaning. It's not just my definition. "The terms special edition, limited edition and variants such as deluxe edition and collectors edition fall under the category of manufactured collectibles, since they are used as marketing incentives for various kinds of products" -link (not my site) No, it's not just yours. I see it thrown around on here from time to time. Actually, if you search for that term, CGC comes up pretty often in the early results.
  3. There is one seller, on eBay, who has "make offer" on all their listings of Magic Cards and refuses almost all offers, even 10 cents lower than asking price. After making a few offers were declined, I offered 1 cent off and they accepted it. When I inquired why this is so, they said that they only accept offers for their higher priced items and that they have all of their auctions set up this way because it is easier for them. What a pain and have never bought from them again.
  4. If you have stuff I want, I'll buy it
  5. Apparently, he's from just up the road in Concord, but he ended up going to Chabot...he must have moved to Hayward at some point. If he went to Chabot in the mid-70's, that would have been around the time my father was there, I think.
  6. Did not know that. Did you know that Tom Hanks went to Chabot College? I wonder if he was there the same time as my dad.
  7. Very nice. I once played in the pit in marching band. Sophomore year, and we were doing a "Scheherazade" suite (Rimsky-Korsakov)...(I think, it's been 30 years)...I was the drum major (conductor), but during the percussion solo, I had convinced the band director that I could play the glock (the metal keyboard instrument on the far left in the video) and so I got down off the podium and did. My first, last, and only time as a percussionist. I was ok with one pair of mallets, and that's all that was needed, but I don't think I could have ever gotten the hang of doubles. Those guys are fierce. Here's some incredible pit action from my days in drum corps...no good shots of them, but you can hear the keyboard instruments, who were...pun intended...instrumental to this show: 3:01 to 3:08 is an example of the madness. Percussion won the caption that year. I'm in there somewhere, but I was playing baritone bugle. You should see Santa Clara now. There's so much construction going on everywhere, you wouldn't recognize it. I was at the last Big Wow show in April of last year, and I try to drive by the old field where we used to practice, which was an unused Mission College field.... ...it's now condos.

  9. Where's my validation participation trophy award...?
  10. Sure did. They finally found some motivation. a few questions... 1 - will there be a max exodus? 2 - how many banned members from here will join over there? 3 - how soon before a "newton" ring thread is started? 4 - will I be able to discuss climate change and/or politics? 5 - will there be birthday threads? I'm such an idjit. I was sitting here, thinking "they might go live at 12:01 AM tonight!"...but tonight's SATURDAY, not SUNDAY. I wonder if there's a Cal list being compiled as we speak...or maybe, has already been compiled...?
