  1. That is your opinion. Others should be free to express theirs, and they shouldn't have to be subjected to complaints about that, either. What people should be free to say isn't dependent on consensus. Who is "we"? When did we elect board spokespersons? Shouldn't you speak for yourself, and let others speak for themselves? Is anything that I'm saying here outside of reason? I don't like much of what you say, but I don't tell you to stop saying it. I simply ignore it. So, my advice to you is: move on.
  2. Fanboys aren't ruining it for themselves. TV and movie producers, directors, and screenwriters are for thinking they know better than everyone else, and altering things because of whim, ignoring years and decades of continuity, for no other reason than "they can." And that article veritably screams of people thinking with their feelings, rather than with reason. The writer of that article sounds much like many who post here, who cannot handle being challenged, and resort to "trigger words and phrases" (like "shouting down"....what does that actually MEAN in a WRITTEN context...? Not a damn thing. But it sure SOUNDS emotive, doesn't it...?) to steer their readers in a specific direction, short on facts, but long on sensational "feel goodism." Not that the writer doesn't make some good points...but good points buried under irrational emotionalism is useless. It's schlock journalism.
  3. I just read Thor 229 and Logan didn't appear in that issue. I'll look up DD and see but where are you getting your info? He's in an ad. We're now in crazy season, where ads now apparently count as "appearances", despite decade of precedence saying that a first appearance has to be in a story context (whether on the cover or elsewhere.)

  6. Nobody's dictating anything, This statement: ...is dictation. No one has to see anyone else "dominating" threads. There's an ignore function for just that purpose. What you're saying is "you can post, but only according to what *I* think is appropriate." I don't follow anyone. I read threads I have interest in, and I post. If people don't like that, they are free to ignore whomever they wish. I've already made the case for why what I am saying is important, and why it is said IN RESPONSE TO erroneous information. If you disagree, fine. Feel free to ignore me. It's not really that difficult. That ignore function is just a couple of clicks away. Then you would be free of this burden.
  7. That said, there's a function to use if you don't like what someone posts. I suggest those with the problem use it, and not dictate what is, and what is not, acceptable for others to post.
  8. In the "Moderns heating up on eBay" thread, most of the people posting are looking to make money. Right? I think we can all agree on that, right? In this thread, it's JUST about the money. So, how does it make sense to tolerate those who consistently post misinformation, misinformation which, if acted on, could stand to lose people quite a bit of money...? Does that make any sense...? Don't people WANT to be fully informed about their purchases, and not want to be led down the primrose path of whomever is hyping whatever they wish to hype, for whatever agenda they might have...? I would have KILLED for such accurate information in the early 90's, when I was wasting thousands of dollars on garbage like X-Force #1, and Silver Sable #1, and Deathlok #1, that the retailers selling to me ASSURED me were going to be "worth lots of money!"

But the print run has everything to do with the "distribution ratio" (aka Retailer Incentive). Why? Because publishers do not routinely print books in mass quantities that no one ordered (see, e.g. the entire point of having a "F"inal "O"rder "C"ut-off). -J. What is a "mass quantity"? If you won't define that, the statement has no meaning. It's vague on purpose, to be easily embellished or discarded further in the discussion. Do you mean "publishers do not routinely print books for their own purposes, to use as they see fit, even retailer incentives"? The answer would be no. They do, in fact, do that. Publishers print what they want, for their own purposes. We know they print more than is necessary of retailer incentives, because they routinely sell them AFTER the initial distribution is complete. If they only printed to order...or, "to case"...they wouldn't be able to do that. Yet, many retailers here have reported buying HUNDREDS, if not THOUSANDS, of such books in the past. I, myself, own dozens of copies of New Avengers retailer incentives that I bought directly from Wizard. How did Wizard get those books? Wizard wasn't a retailer! They didn't order tens of thousands of copies of the regular books to get hundreds and thousands of the retailer incentives. So how can that be? Answer: publishers print what they want, and they don't reveal what they print to anybody. The point of a Final Order Cutoff isn't to establish the required amount of retailer incentive numbers ONLY. It's to give the publisher an exact count of the entire issue that needs to be printed to fulfill orders.

  14. People are speccing that book hard because of Red Tool. Seeing how Harley is the highest printed DC book, there is no short supply of those 1:25's. Prices SHOULD fall soon. Harley is the highest printed DC? Uh, no... And what does the distribution ratio have to do with the print run?
  15. How do you know it had an unusually low print run? That it has unusually low distribution is not something that anyone doubts. But unusually low print run? If you keep making this claim, I'm going to keep challenging it. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm saying you can't make the claim because you don't know. Until there's documentation of some sort, you don't know. No one does.
  16. I want to be clear I wasn't disagreeing with the number of copies, just postulating where they are. Whether everyone who has one "knows what they have." I think it people really knew about the book broadly and knew the value, there would be more copies for sale. I don't know very many fanatics that would refuse several thousand dollars for a book that cost them $5 or less...and I have met a lot of comic collectors (crazy fanatics and all). That's precisely my point. If collectors recognize when, say, original sin #2 goes from being a $20 book to even just a $200 book, and copies fly out of collections at even that modest of a price point, By what reasoning do you make this claim? That copies suddenly appear on the market? How do you know those copies "flew out of collections"? After all....they're theoretically in COLLECTIONS. How do you know where these books came from? ...... this type of logic is what makes me tend to buy your theory....... catch me up if you would Jay, is there any type of anecdotal background information circulating about where any of the known copies originated from ? It is from dealers who pay attention to these things for a living, and have these books leftover for one reason or another. And 10 copies isn't a "flood", unless the book is Blood Is The Harvest or Amazing Man Comics #26. Collectors generally don't sit watching the market to see what their collections are worth. The "basis" we have to "believe" that the majority of collectors who own an ASM 667 are collectively clueless that it sells for $2500 in even raw 8.0 condition" is nothing more than common sense combined with experience. Perfect examples are several people on this very board, who own the #667, who had no idea for years that the book was "valuable"...and some of them post on a daily basis. The question OUGHT to be "what basis do we have to believe that collectors collectively follow the value of individual niche variants in their collections?"

I think there are a decent number of people out there that have this book and don't know what they have. Highly unlikely at this point given the ratio of the book, its age, what it sells for even in ragged condition, and how it was originally released but hey, anything's possible under the sun. -J. I'm not saying it isn't a small number. But with somewhere between 200-500 copies printed (includes a lot of assumtions). Where did the other 175-475 go that haven't been in "circulation." Do you think people threw them away? While Dell'Otto has gained huge popularity overall, I still think this book is largely unknown to the market at large. Oh they're certainly out there no doubt. I would simply posit that the small quantity that was printed and circulated (whatever that number may actually be) is buried deep within ASM run and rare variant fanatics collections, and is long out of the hands of speculators and flippers. Hence the ever so slight trickle of copies we see hitting the market and the census, no matter how high prices on copies seem to get. -J. Maybe you are right, maybe I am or maybe it is a balance of both. :shrug: Speculative conversations like this will likely always occur with the book because it is such a conundrum and defies all standard convention and expectation. There are many modern variants that do the same thing; they simply haven't been as thoroughly discussed. It IS "standard convention" for many of these books to disappear into whatever various holes they go to, not to be seen again for lengths of time. I don't know what "under ordered" means. After all, Superman #75 was also "under ordered", and it stands as the second highest printed book of "all time" (after X-Men #1, and it's certainly not X-Force #1.) But yes, it was certainly lightly ordered at the retail level, as a last minute offering, offered at the time of the original FOC, with the FOC then extended another week. Tough, tough book, obviously.

But if you're happy, I'm happy! Yes the ASM 667 gets its attention largely because of it's unusual rarity and its presence in the ASM title run. But the art truly is simple and beautiful. To see a copy in hand is to know what I mean. To think that few will ever have an opportunity to actually see one in person is a remarkable notion. And without its noteriety, Dell'otto the artist probably would never have come on collectors' radar and his other fantastic work may not have ever gotten any attention. It's ok.
