The really unfortunate thing about all of this is that the controversy will make the book even more sought after by a certain group of collectors... especially if Marvel gets involved and condemns this in any way.
I have never heard of Black Flag Comics before this and will make sure I never deal with them.
I don't even collect Modern Marvel/Spiderman/Miles Morales and could care less about this book but this really irritates me.
Lastly, I'd like to think my pursuit of CGC 9.8's is a worthwhile one, but if CGC is doing things like this with a book like this then what is the point?!

Lotsa activity here! Couple thoughts:
First, word to the wise… here’s the ONLY chromium cover that ever has and ever will matter…
Second, anyone know where I can find a Adv of Superman 499 3rd print DCU in 9.8?
Check out my WTB posts please!
Out!

Can we get new (i.e. unlocked) threads for fixing, building, and adding sets? Please advise. Thanks.
I think they are just locked until after the Registry Awards are announced next week. I’m waiting to ask them to create a new set too.

Nice that you got the right edge of the cover bends out, if it's an overhang, bends like that can be a pain to get out if the paper is being a
They have been hammering moderns lately, books that a 9.8s all day long are coming back 9.6 even 9.4 with no grader notes on anything. Either they are giving the book any grade off the top of their heads and avoiding 9.8s cause they wanna be strict or they are trying to upset the customer so they resend the book back and try again.
Shoot, I got an 8.5 Modern with no notes! Woulda made me crazy except the rest of the grades (15 books) were close enough to what I thought, to not make a big deal of it.

But it would be nice if CGC did the research and figured it out.
Yes, that’s what I was referring to. Seems kinda tough to get a qualified label for a sticker that it’s well known (at least here) that was put on by the manufacturer. But then again, I suppose someone could print a sticker themselves.

The Green Label takes care of the sticker. In other words, it's not a 9.4 because it was a 9.8 with a sticker attached. I wouldn't even know what grade to call a 9.4 book with a sticker - a 6.0 maybe?
I wish they would try to differentiate between stickers placed by the manufacturer and those placed afterwards. I understand that would be difficult but… it’s nice to wish.

Very cool! Did you request qualified over universal or do the graders make that decision? I think in the case of a stickered DCU I would definitely want a green label. A 9.4 seems pretty ok hit to take on the sticker. Do the grader notes say anything else?
Thank you! I just let the graders make the call… didn’t ask for anything. The grader notes are identical to the notes on the label, which I thought was a little redundant.

I submitted it about a month ago through CCS (box isn’t ‘received’ yet). Sure it will be green label but will post pics when I get it back in a few months.
As promised… finally got this back… not sure if the sticker alone bumped it down to 9.4 because I don’t see anything else wrong with it.

Fingerprints got a 9.8?! They've always hammered that.
That’s pretty inconsistent… I’ve got recent 9.6’s, 9.4’s, and even an 8.5 with no grader notes! Meanwhile they give a 9.8 to a book with ‘fingerprints’ literally in the grader notes?? What the heck are they doing!!!
So, NOTHING on this book was worth mentioning in grader notes before slamming an 8.5 on it!! Meanwhile they give a book with fingerprints mentioned in notes a 9.8!!
So arbitrary from the world’s leader. -

Hello, anyone seen a delay with shipping from CGC?
Had a submission at CCS/CGC for 364 calendar days… got grades and shipping label created last Friday, 10 June… still not in USPS system Tues morning, 14 June.
Thanks for any info!
Add inability to get items shipped in a timely manner to turnaround times! Grades posted 10 June 2022… books were received CCS 11 June 2021. When grades posted on the 10th it showed a future ship date of Monday 13 June… figured no big deal, they’ll start moving on the 13th. Here we are Friday morning the 17th and box is barely accepted by USPS, which I think just means it’s still at CGC warehouse but has been scanned a couple times. This minor ‘progress’ was only after bringing @CGC Mike(who seems to be the only one that cares) into the issue. Tried Customer Service where I got the standard
So let down with this company… it’s one thing to tolerate a year+ turnaround but another when they can’t even get items shipped to you timely. Great idea to eliminate UPS and FEDEX and make USPS your single point of failure!

Been meaning to share this misprinted DCU, with a partially visible direct sales UPC under the DCU logo and then the entire cover was overprinted (?) with the back cover upside down on the front and vice versa.
It's a little hard to see some of the details, but for example you can see a bit of Batman's leg and cape etching and a DCU logo on the back cover. Some of the photos show a comparison to a normal version. I put the rest under the cut since it's a bit image heavy.
That is freaky!! Very cool!

I only collect what I really enjoy and don’t think I’ve ever bought, or had a book graded, just for investment/resale purposes.
Having said that, not a lot has changed for me and comics (my buying has slowed because I need fewer book, not because of anything else), but I do grow more and more worried about things overall… definitely not eating as much steak, or cruising around in the Mini, among other things.

They should be!!! This is sickening! Mine is 10/2. It's possible that my two books will be done in early 2023.
In addition to the 6/11/21 sub I’ve also got two subs that were received by CCS on 10/19/21… I try not to think about it too much but man, it really takes the excitement out of it to wait this long!!

Super-Fishy! Feels like the skids were greased up a bit before the show to make these 9.9's and 10's happen to use them as a publicity stunt. This calls into question the integrity of the grading process itself. Crazy that CGC seems to be willing to ruin their credibility over a stupid bootleg acetate cover. This is depressing!
