It is an even smaller wonder when using math and stuff instead of conspiracies. Here is a quick rundown:

From the point that CGC opened its doors up until now CGC had never awarded a 9.9 for a GSX 1, so this is the first. Through that entire time only 239 managed to get to 9.8.

Mega dealers are the ones who submit the largest volume of high value books.

So up until now, and just like anyone else, these massive dealers like Metropolis/Comic Connect etc had 9.8s for the best copies without a single 9.9.

Since these big dealers submit the most books of this type (i.e., the highest grade of GSX) the probability is that one of the dealers will hit 9.9 first. To put it another way, if these folks submit 90% of the copies that are at least a 9.8 they are 90% likely to be the first to hit 9.9.

So nothing even remotely "off" is happening here, at least so far.

Conspiracy theories make my head hurt, especially when Occam's Razor applies.

Agree with everything you've said. There are many examples of Silver Age, Golden Age, Pre Code Horror books that have received a 9.9, and we could argue the age of those books would make it just as difficult, if not more, to get a 9.9. Where was the outrage when each of those popped up? The only thing odd about this GSX1 is the timing being so close to the 9.9 pre-screen announcement. Having a discussion about the book is good, but the hatred and bashing of CGC and big-time dealers is just unnecessary drama and ridiculous.

Then of course there's the more flagrant toxicity of "newer" boardies....

    :eyeroll:

I think most of the newbies are more guilty of asking questions or making comments that have been mentioned innumerable times over the years...and they get bashed by the "holier-than-thou" boardies who are so easily annoyed, as opposed to receiving a more understanding and welcoming response. At least we're figuring out who's who.

As for the OP topic, most key issue prices have dropped dramatically over the past 12 to 18 months, but still significantly higher than 2019 and before. The exception is certainly Golden Age keys...and even morso, Pre Code Horror. Record prices continue to be shattered each month.

Where precisely is all this discussion? I don't see it in the Golden or Silver Age forums.

What year was the "height of the boom"? When did prices "crash"? Was this a general crash bringing down prices of Golden and Silver Age comics considered "keys" by certain observers (generally those with a vested interest of touting those comics) or does your narrative apply mainly to moderns like the Heir to the Empire comic you mentioned?

I'm asking because prices still look really high to me compared to even ten years ago.

    ???

Relative to the peak during 2021 and 2022 (depending on the book), almost every single key issue from Silver, Bronze, and Copper Age has dropped by 50% (some more, some less). Yes, almost all of those keys are still more valuable than pre covid.

Here are some highlights from the rest of the Feb/March Session 2 Clink auction.    This has a lot more of the work-a-day books/grades.    There are actually some encouraging signs buried in here if you look past all the red (except for books like GSX 1) - a lot more places where last sale, 90-day average and/or 12 month average are getting closer together.    Some of the GPA data around last thru 12 month average is probably more relevant than the actual Clink results.

Thanks again for doing this. As I start from the far right-hand column, I see more and more green as I move to the left. That's a good sign that many books are on the rise. That being said, January through May is traditionally a time when comic sales increase in volume and price (the post-covid correction is an exception). Will be interesting to see if this year is any different.

Here are the Feb ComicLink Results - Session 1 and the first day of Session 2.    Session 1 was full of less frequently sold goodies so take it for its worth.    Not sure if I will find time this week to finish up Session 2.......

Really enjoy going through these summaries. Thanks for putting them together. For the most part, with a few exceptions, Bronze and Silver still going down, and PCH is still on fire!!

    How much?   $1500

This clown bought an ASM 13 CGC 6.0 from me for $1500 on Jan 6th.  Once he got the book, he bypassed eBay's return policy and went straight to his bank to file an unauthorized charge. Total Scammer, Luckily eBay said no matter the outcome of his banks' decision I get to keep the sale of the item.

Thanks for the heads up. How do you know he filed an unauthorized charge with the bank? Just curious how that works with ebay.

Confused, follow the CGC procedure if you still have the book? Why wait for CL?

Who said I'm waiting? I've already returned my two books. But I wanted to find out when Comic Link was going to be contacting people,  as they stated on January 3rd. It would be a good cross reference to ensure buyers didn't miss anything. That was the point of my original post.

    5) Lastly, and this is the most time consuming, we will be finding all of our buyers that have ever purchased one of these cert numbers and we will reach out to them proactively to alert them to this situation pertaining to their book(s).

We will get through this together

    -Josh

@COMICLINK Is there still a plan to reach out to your customers? I've been slow to go through the list, but so far I've found two books from the list that I purchased from Comic Link. Continuing to compare our inventory against the list, but would be good to confirm with you guys that I didn't miss anything.

I don’t really expect to see any seismic shift in the market because of this. Not yet anyways based on what’s been made public. The thing I’ll be watching is do custom labels actually become less valuable. I can’t speak for everyone but if I was in the market for a 9.8 ASM 300 right now I’d prefer to buy one that has no custom label, preferably slabbed in the past year where images appear on CGC. And I’d be willing to pay quite a bit more for it than that same book with a low cert number and a custom label with no images on CGC. If I was buying a mid grade or low grade book I’d not care as much but those 9.8’s with custom labels are going to be very interesting to see how they do going forward.

Apologies if I missed some previous posts that explain this, but why do books with custom labels pose a higher risk?
