  1. I was afraid of that. Concerned this one will come back with a purple label.
  2. Good. I feel a little better about it now. Thanks for the response.
  3. I am trying to learn as much as possible about Golden Age books. There are so many strange things I am finding that do not look normal to me, but I am learning that some things are normal. In this example on the inside front cover there is discoloration around the entire printing of the inside cover. I was originally concerned that someone may have re-glossed the cover and this was the result. Has anyone seen this before?
  4. 4.5 now...maybe a 5.0 with a cleaning and press, although pressing won't do alot. Too many color breaks.
  5. Looking at GPA, even a graded 7.0 only goes for around $1000 to $1100. Paying $1250 raw in it's current condition doesn't seem like a good buy. Then again, value is in the eye of the beholder!
  6. I'd still press to reduce the over defect. Could change the grade slightly.
  7. I am terrible at detecting trimming, but I bought both of these Golden Age PCH books, from the same title (Adventures into Weird Worlds), and they are vastly different in width. I know production cutting was not the greatest in the 50's, but could it be this bad?
  8. Hard to tell if any of those creases on the back cover break color, but if they don't, they can probably be completely pressed out. With a complete clean and press, I'm thinking 8.0 to 8.5. That's a really nice book!!!
  9. Depends. If it breaks color, your chances of 9.8 are probably gone. Pressing would reduce the overall size of the flaw, but the color break would still be there. Could drop you to a 9.4/9.6.
  10. I'm guessing 7.0, but clean and press might get you to 7.5.
  11. You also have a little wear along the top edge of the front cover. Still, I'm going higher than the others with a solid 8.5....and a slight chance at 9.0 Really nice book!
  12. Could be a 9.8 candidate. Only possible problem I see is in the 9th picture from the top. This could be the glare but I can't tell if there's something going on with the back cover just above the top staple.
  13. I would ask them to screen it. CGC has always been honest about whether or not a clean and press would help. I've got a bunch of other books going there anyway.
  14. Some of you hit it spot on! Debating on whether or not to resubmit to try for a 4.0.
  15. So, if the edges match and/or line up, this is not a good indicator of whether or not a book has been trimmed?
  16. Does this mean that trimming almost always happens with the covers only, and not the interior pages?
  17. This has already been graded but would like to see what you guys think before revealing. Also, do you see any opportunity to improve the condition with cleaning/press?
  18. What's the process the let CGC know that you want a blue label instead of green? Do you just put a note in with your shipment or is there something on the submission form that allows you to state that you prefer a blue label?
  19. Thank you for the response. Can't believe how bad factory cuts can look. Still not sure this is a VF/NM grade, but I will keep it.
  20. Avengers #38. Seller stated this was VF/NM and unrestored. I am NOT good at detecting trimming, but is it normal for edges to look this rough?
  21. Thanks for all the responses. Returning this book instead of sending to CGC.
