  1. Perfect way to start a Flash collection!!! Are you trying to collect the whole run or just the keys?
  2. My 175 came in Flash fans! Kinda a key issue for the SA run? So that's 2 keys for me this year 123 & 175! Another beater but it fits right into my collection of abused Flash comics ... finally made it to a good Flash friendly home .
  3. Any 121's out there?Somebody's gotta have a better example than my beater...
  4. I don't believe an amateur attempt to replace a staple will count as 'restored' it's usually just considered as a defect or damage -- that's my understanding. I was hoping someone more experienced than I would have responded this part of your question by now..so lets wait a bit and see😀
  5. Tape is a sticky subject! Best not to attempt removing it yourself. Very tough to make a call on this one! Grading it as is I will take a stab at it and say it may be in the 4.0 range. You have to take into account how well the book looks otherwise, maybe 6-7.0 without the tears and tape. But these defects are very significant and normally found in the 2.0 range or lower, so I split the difference and am guessing 4.0. I would love to hear from some other Boardies and see what they might have to say about it, especially when it comes to getting it restored and slabbed with a purple label. I will take a pass on commenting on that question.
  6. I love old books like this! Lots of character, well read and well loved! (Most all of my books from the 50's and 60's are in this condition) I'd say it's a 1.5 maybe a 1.8. It's main issues are the 2+ inch spine splits at the top and bottom. Interestingly enough books with replaced staples can grade up to 3.0 and even higher depending on what the rest of the book looks like. The top staple looks to be original to me, but yes it appears to be in very good shape. The bottom staple looks like there may have been a botched attempt to replace it. Thanks for sharing!
  7. Another near perfect book! I think it would also grade at 9.8!
  8. Nice book! Looks to be in near perfect shape! I'd grade it at 9.8!
  9. Did you catch the typo on that page? It said 'interrupted', I think they meant uninterrupted 137 issue run. Yes very impressive!
  10. And we have arrived at 121! (As we count down to the infamous 123)...Here's my 'Well Loved' copy of 121. Can't wait to see what you guys got!
  11. I agree it wasn't Carmine's best work. I have a few copies from this era but i'm trying to fill in these last big gaps in my collection. This too was 'my Flash' from say 200-300 but sadly I had to sell that collection in the mid 80's. Condition is not too important to me. I'm just tryin' to fill holes here and see if I can complete this run in the next couple of years or so. That being said the keys will be tough. I'm on a 'one key a year' budget. I have 4 big ones left to get: 105,106,110 and 139. So realistically i'm probably 4 years away. BTW-There is great stuff too about Cary Bates in the book mentioned above!
  12. I picked this up as well this week. There are some great stories about John Broome in here. It's kinda hard to find stuff on John. Last call for 120's. We are almost to 121 Flash Fans!
  13. Just ordered a 175 a 270 and 271. I'm missing most of the Flash run from 270-350. I figured that i'd be able to pick up 270-350 quite easily from my local shops but they are not available locally.
  14. As I understand it, they both collected separately before they met and fell in love. Then the rest of their lives they devoted themselves to collecting. A great love story for geeks across the world! I may never be able to obtain a Mile High Flash comic but maybe, just maybe one day I may own one of the silver age Flash issues from their collection.
  15. I believe its in the 7.5 range. Nice looking book! As for the light fold on the back cover...as you said its barely noticeable. I'm sure it would press out, but is it worth it?
  16. I'm going to grade it a bit higher than Two Piece and give it a 9.0. The photos are a little fuzzy when I zoomed in on them though. There may be some other issues. It may have a slightly blunted upper left corner(visible on the back)?
  17. My scanner is working again!!! Here's my 120 scanned...
  18. I know this story appeared as a reprint in one of the "Giant" (haha) sized issues of the SA. Was that issue 207?
  19. OMG! You have one of the Thompson's books!!! You are a fortunate Flash Fan indeed!
  20. My 120 will have to wait a bit as I'm still out of town... Anyone else have a 120 to share?
  21. Beautiful copy of 180! And one of the classic CGC labels very nice!!!
  22. Amazing just to see this book in any condition at all! I've never seen one! Photos of its famous predecessor yes, but this is amazing! Thanks for sharing! I also believe it could grade at 1.5.
  23. This was the first issue I remember seeing Kid Flash in his original costume!
