  1. Never sending anything in to get slabbed, but there have been several slabbed books that gave me instant buyer's remorse when they arrived.Luckily, I've been able to flip a majority of them and came close to breaking even. But this one, while a great book, is never going to resell for what I paid for it.OTOH, it was less than $70. So it is more of a "I wish I bought this for under $50 " category.
  2. A little bit of Newton Rings in this one, but it is a cool book.
  3. This cover just screamed "BUY ME!" when I was 6 years old. This copy isn't too bad though it does have a one inch tear around the boomerang.
  4. A couple of Creeps arrived today. 3 with a cover by Frazetta and 13 by Corben.
  5. I've had several copies of this issue which I've flipped over time. Going to hang on to tghis one for a while. Graded as a 3.0 from MCS.
  6. 3.0-4.0 depending on the pages. The whiter the page, the closer to 4.0 for me.
  7. Debated quite a while on the Atom 18 and when ebay had a 15% off coupon I jumped on it. One of my favorite Atom covers. Also picked up an Iron Man 4 (graded 7.0) and JLA 37 (5.0) from those cough cough other guys. Also favorite covers.
  8. I'd have more to post if this were about DC bronze, silver or gold. But this is the only Marvel #1 I have a pic of. I think I have a mid 60's #1 of Fantasy Masterpieces and maybe a Not Brand Echh somewhere in the closet of doom.
  9. This month I blew right past the "for the love of God stop!"sign with slabbed books. Part of them were my Xmas presents. I stopped buying monthly comics early this year. Wasn't spending more than $50 on those at the time. Pick up tpbs and get everything else from MCS with trade credit, ebay and whenever an online retailer has a major sale of stuff I want.
  10. I remember buying this at the grocery store as they kept it right at the checkout aisle. The lady at the cash register started b------g about how disgusting the cover was. I told her to just ring it up or get the manager and have him check me out.
  11. Well I just started collecting slabs this year. I've bought and flipped quite a few of them. Do I start with the one that hooked me into this (Hawkman 7) or some of the ones that replaced the raw copies that had to be sold almost thirty years ago(Justice League Of America 3 and 9/Green Lantern 36)? Opted to go with the three Flash books that I vividly remember grabbing from the spinner racks in 1965. I first saw the house ad for Flash 151 an Eighty Page Giant (maybe #8) along with the ad for Aquaman 20 and several others.
  12. Sometimes I wonder if some sellers on ebay really want to sell their books. I contacted three sellers on 12/7 asking if their cgc books I was interested in had Newton Rings. Two responded within an hour with details. The last one had two (both books were over $200 each) and said he would get back to me later that night. Still waiting. Needless to say I bought a book from one of the answering sellers and may buy one from the other.
  13. One of my favorite covers from the early 70's graded at an 8.5
  14. Back in the 80's one of my buddies would go just about anywhere to check out collections. He saw an ad in the paper and followed up on it. The woman was selling her late son's comic collection. These were all Marvel and DC from the 60's and at first glance seemed perfect. As he excitedly started going through the box, he felt that there was something a little odd or off about them. So he took one out of the bag and discovered itl had been trimmed to fit into modern age bags. The mother was beaming. She said "I knew these books had to be in bags to be safe so I bought a few hundred bags and trimmed all ofthe comics to fit". He said he was almost weeping on the walk back to the car.
  15. I've always liked this particular cover and issue, so it was nice to pick this up at OPG.
  16. Saw this on a slab and was wondering if all of the older ones were like that. I'm referrng to the plastice tabs on the inside. Thanks!
  17. I only read a couple of pages in this thread so excuse me if this has been brought up. If any of this was done through snail mail, wouldn't this be categorized as mail fraud?
  18. Creeps # 8 and Scary Monsters 105. The SM 105 is just a stunning wraparound cover by Scott Jackson.
  19. Actually there was a blank cover over this cover. Don't ask me why.
  20. Had several come in over the past couple of days. This FM 44 is a beauty....except for that effing sticker on the front cover. Picked it up as a 4.5, but it would easily be more without the sticker. I'd love to remove it, but not going to take chances with ruining the cover.
  21. Some more Creeps, 9 & 11. I'd say both are fine or better.
  22. The Famous Monsters 113 is a 2.0 and the MOTM 8 is about a 4.0. Got 'em cheap. The FM 113 cover was released as a poster for many years.
