  1. I started sniping on eBay many years ago because of shill bidding. I had never even heard of shill bidding when I learned about bidding there. In the good old days, Stu would find shill bidders all the time and report them on the chatboard. People had fake names, friends names, neighbors etc. I had no idea what sniping was, but a friend taught me about 3 seconds ...and even sometimes less, an action that would prevent my putting in an early bid and getting bid up. I used to sit at the computer counting. Then they masked all the names...it was very hard to determine who was cheating and accepting cheats unless the people were dumb enough to make small incremental bids and it was obvious. Now I pretty much just bid what I'm willing to pay, UNLESS I have the time to sit in at the end and bid live. I laughed at the "cleverly bidding $401" I actually add more than $1, it rarely works;) Oh and on eBay, I sometimes use Esnipe, but that doesn't work on many other platforms.
  2. Maybe don't drink and bid;) err...drive? Nice to see you here, hope you at least loved the books you won! I've had max bids win just about everywhere, CC is one place I don't always win....that dumb 3 minute thingy gives people time to think about really wanting the book I wanted.
  3. Well, the person you are showing me is a blonde...so I don't think so...but BlueChip showed an Action 24, that has the same medium brown reddish colored brunette as was on Action 23 (or close enough;) Action 27 at least has someone with black hair... Now explain to me why the first Luthor is really in Superman 4 not 23;) My "opinion" is just that...I figured since Lois was modeled after Jerry Siegal's wife, Joanne, he was so madly in love with her, her picture was everywhere before he even knew who Superman's love was going to be;) and they ALL kind of look alike;) So happy to deal with 1st world problems and these wonderful old books...takes your mind off the stresses of real life:)
  4. I don't think the timing helped...I bid on a bunch on Wed, figuring I'd be way outbid...if I had been around Thursday night a few of those would have either had higher prices, or I would have won them.
  5. FTFY (not that I'm going to know the grades, but I like the covers;)
  6. I can't seem to find a scan of mine, but I always thought Action 23 was the first Lois cover. Here is someone else's and a nicer copy than mine
  7. Your thread always seemed like an "auction". You are "selling" the books, but chose to give the funds to a charity, so there never seemed to be an issue. But before you move it out of the sales area, you might want to contact CGC Mike (after the grading contest) when he's less busy see what he says. I'm not sure how CGC is going to view a lot of "charity" threads elsewhere that don't benefit board members. I'd ask. A number of years ago, I held a thread for someone who had an issue and all of a sudden I got some requests to help "neighbors, relatives" etc. It's why I try and stick to boarders unless, like you, I put up the donations myself. I don't turn away people who want to add, but I at least start it like that. I belong to a group that raises money for Cancer research. I've never even considered listing something for them here. We do plenty of in person fundraising...and I know a lot of people have a charity they like, I can't imagine CG being full of charity threads for non cgc related events and cgc not saying "whoa" ...no more "charity threads".
  8. I really only work with boarders or families of boarders when someone was deceased and it has to be someone I knew or people who I knew well recommended. There were a few incidents years ago where people were trying to take advantage of the kindness of the board members here, so I'm super super careful now about getting involved. Money either went directly to the person's PP account, or to a verified GoFundme (we started these before GoFundme existed). The only auction type thread that was set up that I can remember, was the first one, when Nik passed away and I had a ton of help with that one otherwise it would have been impossible. A few times when there was something earth shattering, I just donated items myself and if someone else wanted to post items they did, I think the last time was when Ukraine was invaded. The money went directly to the World Soup Kitchen, a top rated charity. Time before that might have been the Hurricane in Louisiana. One thing I'd always recommend is keeping a spread sheet. I use Google docs and share it with the person who is getting the funds and any helpers I have. I keep it, so if there are any questions or problems, I always have it available. I think I've only done one, the last one for DJPinkpanther, alone. I've always wanted other eyes on what was going on and that one was shared with Thomas's wife.
  9. Maybe I should just wait till I can watch them all at once. I've gotten so used to watching a series all at once, I tend to forget what happened when it's weekly
  10. I have to sign out of my CGC account, then hit chatboards and it lets me sign in. Yesterday I had to make multiple attempts, just now, it was first try. I don't remember what happened this morning when I had to sign off and back in. This is a laptop, if it helps them. I have to resign in EVERY time on my phone, but I'm used to that...
  11. Nothing to screen shot, just a rolling thingy when I try to sign on
  12. I'm having the issue daily on a Dell Inspiron PC.
  13. Is anyone else having a problem signing in to Heritage?
  14. I'm not sure that Baker was that hot that people would lobby to have him listed in 2003, not that he was a no body, but his star certainly rose a lot more after that. It's very possible the body was split, someone may have done the face, someone else could have been the "hand" expert...although I think they could have found a better choice. When I bought my copy, I didn't buy it because it was "Baker". I just liked the colors. Since they didn't keep great records, we are never going to know. It's like going back and asking the Renaissance artists who really filled in the colors on some of the paintings. When I bought this piece, it was listed as Gil Kane, that was at least 20 years ago. The bottom panel is obviously Kirby. He wasn't even listed anywhere when I bought it, now he is, so I guess things are updated sometimes.
  15. I've sold with CC several times, I was told that if I wanted to add the percentage I could, that I would save on fees, but it was totally up to me, but we agreed that the book usually goes for the same bottom line# and that no percentage would probably get more bids. I was never given the impression that anyone who consigned books would randomly have the percentage added.
  16. I thought the Action 13 would go higher. https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/superhero/action-comics-13-dc-1939-cgc-gd-25-cream-to-off-white-pages/a/7341-92002.s?ic2=mytracked-lotspage-lotlinks-12202013&tab=MyTrackedLots-101116
  17. I was wondering the same thing. Although I do have a 4.0 Sensation, that's pretty much the lowest I've seen.
  18. I find him extremely useful, I've dropped off my husband at his booth multiple times, only to return more than an hour later with the two of them still discussing the Mets... My husband has never purchased a comic book in his life...
  19. I am thinking his idea of accuracy and ours might be a smidge different, plus or minus the tears, missing pieces, stains, etc;) That's a tough book, when I first saw the listing, I thought the price was really good...until I saw the pictures
