  1. Well, actually when you are working for someone else, there is "direction and control" by someone else. That's the definition at least in most States that determines whether you are self employed or an employee. That term along with a series of questions that follow, determines whether you are liable for certain taxes, or your "employer" is and or eligible for certain benefits. I worked for the Dept of Labor for more more years than I like to admit;) so that kind of expertise, I do have. Self-discipline certainly helps in either situation, so does being organized.
  2. When you have your own business there are no 3 day weekends. There are no days off. Can you take time? Sure...but in order to keep up, you need to be available. My husband has his own practice, we've been called on every vacation...many Sunday nights, Mornings, etc even while we were in Europe. He answers cheerfully and then might say a few other kinds of words after hanging up, but never to a client. The benefits of not working for someone else, outway the inconvenience. As for filing bankruptcy, I don't know if it's that simple. You might have to prove what you did with all the funds you took in. I'm not an attorney, someone who is would know more.
  3. Oh well, now I have to find something else to watch...I was looking forward to it!
  4. Dec? We had read June 30th, now I'm disappointed.
  5. It was weird, I expected the person to stand up at the end.
  6. Sure, but I understand it's no longer a parking lot...can you meet me at Bloomingdales instead?
  7. In your 2nd best Montoya voice, repeat...I quoted the wrong person, Sharon was not the one asking or kvetching about the advice;)
  8. We had friends staying over and they said they never saw Man of Steel...so we rewatched that tonight, I liked Man of Steel better the 2nd time. Not certain I'd watch Flash twice.
  9. First of all, I hope you and your wife are OK. It's a nice book, since you decided not to pursue anything further (although if you send them a medical report they might extend the time) I'd just keep it in my collection. You might want to put a note in the "I want to get married" thread, maybe you can complete it. I think I read somewhere you think it would only sell for $150, I think you might be underestimating the value a bit, not that you'd instantly get your full purchase price back, but I'd expect you'd get more than your estimate. Good luck It's a shame no one counted the pages as the correct # of pages are listed right on the front cover. Easy thing to check.
  10. Well, that's interesting...what exactly do you object to in the Planet series? Is there a specific artist you don't like? Not a fan of science fiction? Just curious why you made such a general statement?
  11. I think perhaps we have a modern collector who got a little lost. I get that, I'm not a fan of most modern covers...but I don't think I'd advise people who collect those, that they "Suck" because they have different tastes.
  12. Who is "Comic Tom" is he better than Dr. Skull?
  13. Hi billy! so glad you trained your grandchildren properly, so they could enjoy the movie!
  14. It took Michelangelo 4 years to complete the Sistine Chapel, he had to lie on his back on scaffolding the whole time. Paints were not available in stores back then and there were no fans to dry sections. If you have seen the room in person, you know it's a pretty large ceiling. Comic book covers are not that big, and the entire face of the cover is not usually missing, just small parts that need to be painted after leaf casting (if that is the method that is being used to restore). However, juggling clients, money, many multiples of books at the same time...going back and forth...I'm sure that spreads out the time frame and if you are not super organized, nor a highly trained artist...it can extend the time too. But 6 years to restore a small comic book cover? That's because there were things that were not organized correctly, has nothing to do with the art.
  15. Dr. Skull on eBay invented POS- and Near Lint at least 20 years ago...where would "mulch" fit in with those two? I like to keep a list of appropriate grading terms;)
  16. I loved Affleck as Batman...I loved Christian Bale as Batman...2 great actors.
  17. I was not going to see the movie because of all his controversies...but I looked and he was never convicted for any of that, just trespassing. I don't love him in the role because I grew up with a completely different Barry Allen...I found a lot of the talking to himself in the 2nd role annoying, BUT...he was better than I thought he'd be. I liked the rest of the movie enough to ignore my dislike of him. I do hope they replace him with a better Flash.
  18. I am sorry for your divorce. I don't know if your customers knew about that. No one wants you to die . If you take care of your health issues (and as I said depending on what you need to have done, it might not even take that long for you to get back) you might be more able to take care of things efficiently. I think most people will be understanding about you having the surgery first if that is an option. I don't know if your doctors suggested that, or you need to wait for some reason. As for banks, yes I do know how they work. If you don't have a super great credit rating, it's tough getting a loan, but you've already said you expanded too quickly. That's done already, it's too late to go back. People make mistakes, all of us do. What you need to do is have someone not emotionally involved take a look at the "mess" that's why I suggested getting some free help from the two agencies I listed in the beginning. Fix yourself up so you are able to do what you need, make a plan, let people know the plan and get past the mess. But threatening is not going to help anyone...and it's a time waster.
  19. I have not said a malicious thing in this thread. I mentioned his health several times before. You don't know me so I'm guessing you are conversing with a person who hides in the shadows here making up trash. You and he can make up whatever you want I know what I meant.
  20. Why ? He might be better off and safer if he has the surgery first...now. Sometimes when people are stressed they don't prioritize their health propetly. When my father had heart surgery he was incapacitated for weeks...but apparently its no longer an issue in some cases. So I was suggesting he ask. If you took what I said a different way...you read something that wasn't intended.
