  1. This ones classic... I'd like to know what that kid is whispering to Superman about Batman and Robin... Odd. Why did the Norsemen change the girls into boys with poorly fitted suits? Jack
  2. Not so far from here. Some wild spelunking? Have fun! Jack
  3. What a great set of Fight Comics! Does Overstreet mention that Tiger Girl gets those straps on her torso in this issue? Roy Thomas should revive Tiger Girl for Marvel -- the Origin of the Straps would make a great 12-issue miniseries. Jack
  4. Thanks for this shot Richard. That's a mighty fine assortment Love them all Agreed! If you're taking requests, it'd be great to see close-ups of those nice-looking Four Color 148 and 322. Jack
  5. Great stuff! Love the Acid vat. (I'm probably the only one that wonders which acid.) I had one of those for about a day and a half but had to send it back to the seller because it was so brittle that it was crumbling before my eyes. It would have been a great book to experiment with on ways to stabilize it, because it was almost worthless in its current state. Jack
  6. Wow! What a group of Atlas horror books! This one's interesting. I wonder if Burgos had a hand in it. It looks like a Burgos face on the guy at left. The ghouls and ghosts don't look like his work though. Jack
  7. Have we seen these yet? Raggedy Ann and Andy had some great seasonal covers. RAA 7 RAA 19 RAA 31 RAA back cover -- probably 19 or 31. Jack
  8. Another Big One bites the dust -- and a most presentable copy! Congrats. Jack
  9. Possibly my favorite WDCS cover, one of my favorite Walt Kelly covers. Great characterizations on the dwarfs and duck! Yours looks like a copy in the the kind of condition I'll pick up some day. Jack
  10. I think you know where to look for the missing issue now, Scrooge. Down south. Great group shot! Jack
  11. Amazing stuff, BOOT. I'm trying to fill in some of the covers at GCD and many of them don't even have entries. It might be tough to find enough publication data to add them. Are these all unique front covers, or did you sneak in some back covers? Thanks, Jack
  12. Great buy! That's the kind of book I always hope for -- attractive with an inobtrusive defect pulling down the grade (price). Those bizarre Kanigher Wonder Woman stories... Jack
  13. Jane Wyman and (back of) Ronald Reagan cover appearances! Jack
  14. Almost certainly Morris Gollub. *check* GCD agrees. Jack GCD has a "?" next to Gollub. Looking at some of the other covers they attribute to him, none of them seem to have the same style. I love GCD but have sometimes found their artist credits for unsigned work to be off target. Looking at some of Gollub's other work (e.g. this nice article on Gollub from the Von's Hollywood blog ) I don't see anything else in the style of this cover. Have you seen any other work by him in this style? If you look closely, it looks like a tight pencil drawing that has been nicely colored. Don't mean to pester - I'm just curious because this to me is a masterfully done cover. I, too, wondered if it might be Kelly. Gollub certainly seems to have had the background and skill to do this, but I wonder if there is anything else he did in this style. Thanks! I'm definitely not an artist ID expert, but I do think this looks like Gollub's "children's book" style. The link you cited had only adventure/dino stories (at least that's all that I saw), which tend to be harder-edged. I wonder why the GCD credit has a question mark. The attributions by Alberto Becattini and some other Dell experts at GCD tend to be right. Take a look at Gollub's other credits at GCD (do a penciler search) and in particular Four Color 205 that's credited to Gollub without a question mark. I don't think 128 (or 205) is by Kelly. Jack
  15. Almost certainly Morris Gollub. *check* GCD agrees. Jack
  16. Maybe too many for one post, but here goes. A recently acquired batch of Christmas readers. Continuing on the promotional comics theme: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer 1957-58 (Rube Grossman) Four Color 205, a favorite by Morris Gollub Four Color 253, a beauty by Walt Kelly Four Color 254. I'm not sure who drew this one. Classic commercial style that shows up on a lot of these books. Four Color 259 -- I should know this artist from indexing Raggedy Ann. George Kerr? Mo Gollub again? Four Color 302. Looks like Little Johnny had a little too much Christmas candy before reading this one. Four Color 359 Four Color 361. This must be Irving Tripp from Little Lulu. And finally, some Walt Kelly reprints. Jack
  17. Dime book -- might as well post it here too. Jack
  18. Recent win, seller's scan. Yeah, it's a beater but an affordable #4! Jack
  19. I thought we had already narrowed down the Jeep page to 1st series FC 25. GCD says "entire book comprised of 1 page reprints of Thimble Theatre from 1935-1937. Starts on inside front cover (black/red) and ends on back cover. Brutus on cover only--not in book. First appearance of "the Jeep" reprinted?" I guess the question mark remains a concern. Jack BB, I should have mentioned that I checked that website Friday and I looked at those very same issues. The source of your Jeep page remains a mystery. While I was looking through the Popeyes I read many of the strips. It was lots of fun.
  20. There are som oddities about that book (gummy smile for instance), but a cool book and a sweet grade nonetheless Thanks, almost-birthday boy! You're right -- the smile is almost as odd as the eyes. I'll have to scan it myself to try to match the colors better. Jack
  21. Here's an unusual one for me -- Green Lama 7, 1946, Raboy cover. Sorry about the glare at the top of the (seller's) scan. A Pretty Good eXample of a book graded VF+ 8.5, apparently part of a warehouse find. Nice copy! Weird eyes -- Green Lama looks like he's supposed to be blind on this cover. Merry Christmas! Jack
  22. Is that an invitation to post?!? Here are the War books - I like 'em all! Combat Casey the weakest link, Maneely Wild Western my favorite. Jack
