  1. AAAHHHAAA! Ok, got it So the Stoltz one is no.7 Chip's no.23 makes sense So back to 6 or is it 7? Funny how to come to the market after all this time and are both 9.0s ?
  2. I would guess a large portion of the 100 copies were destroyed in the flood that destroyed most of Eclipse Comics' backstock in 1986. I think they were all sold as both early numbers and later numbers have turned up, some info here: Miracleman 2D info I think there are around 6 known copies. Hey! Who does this web-site? (He's knicked some of my data) How come there are suddenly TWO graded 2D's (no.7 and no.23) both 9.0? No.23 is a new copy then? It also pictures no.91 too? So another copy? Makes 8 now? The 2D has got 33.33% more common in the space of 5 mins!
  3. Hmmm - this is very interesting. I think I've posted several times here but there are (or were) 6 known copies - 1 owned by D Wilson, a UK collector, no.92 /100 1 sold on eBay US in 2002 for around $150 (from memory, verified in 2009 by RockMyAmadeus on the CGC boards); 1 owned by Al Stoltz (reported in the article "MiracleMan 2-D Copy Discovered!" published in "Scoop" 15th February 2008); 1 owned by "ladines" on CGC boards "I believe mine is number 82 but don't have it on hand to confirm."; 1 owned by Michael S, no. 19/100 1 owned by "Chipmaker" no. ??/100 (photo's published 02/01/11 on CGC boards) The graded copy is Chipmaker's - now identified as no.7/100 However, now being sold by Basement Comics... run by Al Stoltz? So is this the same copy as the Scoop one? If so that's just 5 - or even 4 as the 2002 copy is not fully confirmed or documented. Would I pay $5,000+ ? no but I would've probably paid $1000-$2,000 nearly 10 years ago when this whole quest began. I know now some of the original Marvelman books are even rarer. It's a stunningly rare book but getting it graded at only a 9.0 impacts it's mystique and Michael's copy looks better. Also the ebay auction has blurd pictures. It would sell for more raw I reckon. But we'll see. Best of luck! CGC's notification is a bit under-whelming as well. But at least they noticed!
  4. Anyway, MM fans, here's a fun quiz to test you 1. Which issue of Miracleman has a Popeye cameo? 2. How many Warpsmiths are named? 3. What issue did Eclipse Extra run to? 4. When did the name "Marvelman" 1st see print? 5. When did the name "Miracleman" 1st see print? 6. Who owns the name "Miracleman"?
  5. I have come across a few sites that state that Morrison's story was not in this book, one of which is quoted below: "Though Morrison's Kid Marvelman -script was long rumoured to have seen publication in issue #4 of Hugh Campbell's Fusion fanzine, It turns out that 'The Devil and Johnny Bates' from that issue was actually an in-depth character study of Kid Marvelman by one Jim Clements. Clements, a legendary figure whose published output amounts to one 6-page Future Shock in 2000 A.D. Prog 713, was cited by Morrison in the 15th Anniversary Arkham Asylum introduction as a big influence in his formative years. Morrison goes on to say that essentially he wrote the book entirely to impress him." https://sites.google.com/site/deepspacetransmissions/universe-b/uk However, since I don't have this book, I can not state for sure that this is actually so. Eddie It is so. I began the Morrison rumour as a genuine misunderstanding / blatant fabrication. Fusion no.4 has the Clements piece on KM. However, what's not generally known is that Grant Morrison DREW the Kid Miracleman cover to no.4 and also the Miracleman cover to Fusion no.6. I have never owned an original of either Fusion no.4 or no.6 but have copies of them both. Fusion no.6 was on ebay twice last year, 1 copy sold for £1.00, then second for £316!!!
  6. I was just slightly too young to get Warrior off the shelf, being 10 when it first came out! However, I did buy Miracleman no.1 as a 13 year old in August 1985 (from either a Leeds or Manchester comic mart). I was blown away - and it's still an obsession nearly 28 years later... I also bought Swamp Thing no.34 about the same time. That explains a lot
  7. Where can I get this ? I want to read it. Here you go (Marvelman is pages 4-13): Warrior #4 I do have this issue but also downloaded a scan of it a while back. If you want to buy Warrior #4 try searching ebay uk and, if you find one, ask the seller if they would post to where you are. A very cool issue. Warrior no.4 is also the 1st appearance of Warpsmith, Aza Chorn (well technically the 2nd, as he's seen on the rear cover of no.3) and also the 1st appearance of the adult Kid Marvelman / Miracleman in costume - though Steve Dillon's version of it looks a bit strange I always think. Dez also talks about Anglo's involvement in the re-launch in the letters pages... I wish Warriors were more valued, but Dez still has piles of them in his loft so supply outstrips demand... However, it's tough to get REALLY high grade copies - 9.0 and above. A colleague on these boards mentioned getting CGC to grade Warriors but apparently too big...
  8. Hey ! I like "Ewan, the Marvelman Master" - can i have it for my title? This is Marvelman no.339 published by L Miller, probably 1962 or 1963 - I'd have to check my notes for the exact date. Out of interest, the previous issue, no.338, was the last issue edited by Mick Anglo. The title ended on issue no.370. I have a copy but yours is in much, much nicer condition! It'd probably sell from anything from £10 to £30 on ebay - depends if me and the other Marvelman collectors were on it. But great to get as a freebie!
  9. Well thank you for the unsolicited plug - very nice thing to do. The auction is now finished and the 8 books went for just £210 - HOWEVER this low price is kind of what I was expecting - and they have gone to a very good home. So after selling much of my Miracleman collection (again) here's my views - WHITE HOT 9.9s No.15 raw in nice shape (often sell higher than graded - strangely) Full sets Hard-backs HOT Fanzines No. 23 & no.24 raw in nice shape Original L Miller Marvelman (what I'm collecting now) 9.8 Sig series Promo's TPBs COOLED 9.8 normal - just about every issue inc. no.15 and no.24 COLD 1-10 raw, 17-22 raw Any graded under 9.8 I don't watch the OA market so don't know? thoughts? BTW, I contacted a key source about the MM re-launch - he described it all as "fanboy speculation" or words to that effect...
  10. Well, the owner seemed to have very mixed tastes About 400 books, all low grade... but interesting stuff here's a sample... And damn welll worth it for the excitement factor! p.s. one of these pictures is fake - can you spot it?
  11. ... Got it home and peeked inside... the first thing I saw was the indicia of Showcase no.29... a coverless Showcase no.29 I thought.... crikey.. this is it.... There MUST therefore be a Showcase no.22 in the pile.... heart quickens VERY next book: Green Lantern no.78 in ok grade Breath goes... there MUST therefore be a GL no.76 in there... Then...
  12. I love this thread so thrilled to be able to contribute with my little find Bought a collection today that had been in someone's "mother-in-law's attic" for 30 years Wow - a real, genuine "ATTIC FIND" I thought !!!! I'm in England, so unlikely to be full of Action no.1s - but maybe some Silver-Age gems...? Well.... Here's the box... A Christmas Hamper box... it looks old...
  13. You missed my humour. I took that quote from the movie Dumb and Dumber. Pretty sure there are lots of 50's Australian books? There are a HUGE number of Australian books - but they are variants of variants... e.g. The CA book in question 1) USA version 2) UK L Miller version 3) Australian version of the L Miller book Also see my Nature Boy no.3 example I'll get some more pics for you
  14. Hi No, I found then two Caps in a book "Nostalgia About Comics" (copies on ebay) - i thought from memory they're the British L Miller ones - but no - they are Australian variants! but yes, both from the 1950s (I don't have them) the 2nd is the rear cover of this... British 1960s
  15. haha - great story i'm not sure which is better: the badges or the fact that you dressed up as Vyvian for a party! I was always more of a Neil fan myself happy to buy the badges if you're selling
  16. Thought you guys might like to see an update of my very slowly progressing challenge to complete a full set of ORIGINAL Warrior badges from 1982/3 It's taken me close to TEN YEARS to find six of them - but to be fair to myself, I now have a complete set of the Miracleman related ones Dez says they were manufactured in huge numbers... but clearly very few were saved Cool aren't they? The top two are original Marvelman Club Badges from the 1950s which seem to appear more frequently than the Warrior ones! and the original advert...
  17. You are correct sir: Servelan and Avon from Blake's Seven thing is... I've seen the top one before but can't place it it's an L.... R,..... or J.... R.... Would the siggy boys know? p.s. thanks again or the Starlin
  18. He is Jim (James) P Starlin, but it is definitely his signature Many thanks - well, that's a bonus. Not sure how that squiggle correspondes to the letters mind. Has Stalin ever drawn Alpaco's? (or is it Alpaci?) If not, do you know if if would do a commission? What is the collective noun for Alpaco's? Any ideas on the others? I believe 2 are from Blake's Seven?
  19. Guess the squiggle time! sorry to interupt chaps - can anyone help identify some signatures please From UK convention booklets - no clues at first in case I misguide many thanks
  20. Questions please: How do I get to use Brazillian ebay? I'm obviously already a UK ebay user... Do I need to register? Does it use paypal? Are people uk to communicate through translation software? any tips would be appreciated
  21. Here's a comic I've picked up recently... another Golden Age variant i've never seen such a rare item in such amazing condition - beautiful British L Miller 1950s can anyone confirm what this reprints please?
  22. Sir, I like your style! (thumbs u Man those are freakin cool! Just like with American Golden age stuff, population numbers are small compared to bronze or later..... foreign golden age has had soo much time to fall into obscurity, destruction, or unavailability..... well to find multiple copies for a key based issue collection has got to be amazingly tough! (thumbs u thank you - it was almost accidental how I found them as has been mentioned, many areas of foreign comics are very poorly indexed, including a lot of British "reprints"
  23. ...and I've posted this before Nature Boy no.3 1956 - already an obscure Charlton - but I've managed to find 3 other foreign variants USA, Australian, British & Mexican (as "Doll Man")
