Understood if that helps you with your own clarity, that’s fine. A lot of US and Canadian editions were printed along side each other though then shipped to their respective markets. Happens today still with any number of products manufactured here (US) or abroad.

My problem with calling foreign or non US comics variants you’re confusing the market with true variant editions when selling. It’s a fairly recent phenomenon and it seemed to follow certain collectors complaints about a perceived lack of respect for most collectors preferring US over non US editions of the same issue published at the same time. The listings below are some examples of the new “variant” trend with sellers trying to make you think these are now somehow special because the word variant conjures up scarcity...4A777E2D-49A6-47FD-9273-0ABF70B9EA6A.thumb.png.565e9741ed98addcf89ce9510071cb6b.png

It wasn’t that long ago that these would have been listed as simply Canadian or UK editions. If foreign books are now real variants then every comic not sold in the US is a variant???

    That would be mind boggling....:ohnoez:

Marvel or DC U.K. price variants are true variants... printed at the same time & place in the U.S. then shipped overseas...

There is a big thread on that on the Board. Nothing to do with other foreign editions.

  2. I bought a few comics (raw and graded) from Doug this year and I was very satisfied. His packing method is elaborate and nuke proof.

Even sold a comic book lot to Doug recently, and again, a very smooth transaction.

Hi raw grading seems very accurate. I have a couple that are on their way to Sarasota. Curious to see what grade I will get, but quite confident it will be similar to the raw grade.

    Highly recommended dealer.

...I picked up FF annual 1 several months ago. It had been on my radar a few years and the auction was low. Since it was cgc slabbed I jumped on it. 50% of guide! I....

I kinda freaked out when I read this. Then to realize it was posted in 2014

Times have changed! A FF Annual 1 CGC 8.5 copy went for $1,152 on CLink this week

IMHO this book should be on par with ASM Annual 1... it's slowly catching up in value...

  4. At this point CGC becomes the (big) limiting factor...

I sent some magazines to Joey mid-August for cleaning & pressing.

They were submitted (economy) to CGC around mid-October.

Been waiting since... and given what I have read in the CGC turnaround thread, I doubt I will get them back in 2019 :frown:

They are! I was happily surprised with the grades, and THRILLED with the page quality. I bought them intended to do onsite grading at Baltimore, forgetting that they were gonna have to be holdered in magazine sized slabs, which they don't do at shows, so I just dropped off and waited.

Thrilled to have them as mementos of my years living in Hoeilaart, Belgium

So not even pressed? Wow... that's great.  I am now full of hope for my Spirou(s) at CGC  :wishluck:

    Here's the Dutch version of 1071 & 1072

I take issue with the label specifications citing this as the "Belgian" edition.

Both the French and Dutch versions were produced by Edition Duppos, a BELGIAN publisher. They published French language versions (Spirou) for the south and Dutch language versions (Robbedoes) for the north.

Published at the same time, one doesn't preceed the other, nor is one the primary. And to call the Dutch language one the "Belgian Edition" one is ignoring the fact that Spirou is ALSO the Belgian edition, just for the French speaking ones....

4the copy of the Dutch version of 1071 and 2nd copy of the 1072 on census.

    White pages...mmmmm

Hey Miraclemet! Aren't those the two raw Robbedoes I sold you? Nice grade that you got! Congrats! @miraclemet

And here I thought the magazines would take the longest:

Fast Track Value - Received 11/11/19

Magazine Economy - Received 11/11/19 - Scheduled for Grading 11/18/19

    Magazine Modern - Received 11/11/19

    Reholder - Received 11/11/19, Grading QA/QC 11/13/19, Shipped 11/14/19

Modern Slow Boat Prescreen - Received 11/11/19

It would make a huge difference if overstreet recognizes the sale.  It’s not even in the overstreet which means “it doesn’t exist”

I wonder if some of us collectors should write up a summary document requesting inclusion in the Overstreet (at least for #1071 & 1072).

There's already a good amount of GPA data. We should be able to break down grades/pricing for initial inclusion in the Guide.

Be interesting to see what your overall grade ranges are.  The raw ones you have look good too.  Most of the raw copies on eBay look to be 4.0 and below

Can't wait to know the grades! My recent two raw copies of 1071 will definitely go to CGC at some point.

I also have an incoming 1072 that looks to be in great condition. Will post it in a few days upon reception. Should be my last Spirou purchase for a while.

Upon reception of my graded Spirou I plan on slowly releasing some on the market (for sale of trade), starting with the lowest in grade.

Certainly don't plan on flooding the market ;)

It's better to wait for those to get more recognition/visibility (curious to see if the next Overstreet will highlight the big Spirou sales that happened in the last year)
