  1. Got shut out last night as most of the high grade silver I was bidding on went for stratospheric prices but I did manage to snag this little gem tonight as a consolation prize.
  2. Here's the thing, "corrections" much like "bubbles" are also temporary. If you bought "generic tech stock" during the tech bubble 15 years ago, you were probably "losing" a lot of money during the Great Recession. IF you sold. If you kept said generic tech stock through that down period, you are probably looking just fine now. Same with real estate during the downturn. Why wouldn't the same apply to comics, which are now viewed as investments by most of the people paying silly money for them?
  3. This book routinely sold in the $5-6K range for years in 9.6. The last 2 sales have been $16K and $11K. That $16K is $6K higher than the Pac Coast 9.8 sold for just a couple of years ago. Matter of fact, no 9.8 has sold for $16K. Am I missing something?
  4. I bid on this last week and as was discussed, got the error message as well. Was super bummed as my bid was quite a bit higher than the end price but since CL restarted the books, I managed to win it on the second go round
  5. Wow they hammered that B&B hard. That's an 8.0/8.5 book without the stain... all the way down to a 3.5 Thanks for all the work Andy and Shin. It's been a blast as always.
  6. So Voldy graded the JIM 83 a 9.6 and then CGC regraded it a 9.4 and people still think that the CGC grade is a "gift"? What was Voldy's grade then?
  7. Sweet, sweet book. These reprints are tough to find and super cool since you don't see them often.
  8. Yeah wow... 8.0 on that Hulk? I had the ASM right but the Hulk looked slightly worse to me and gave it a 7.0. Oh well.
  9. I'll donate a set of the first Secret Wars series #1-12 (yes, including #8). The set will be in the NM range. Will post pics at some point when I get around to taking them.
  10. I had this very same thing happen to me about a year ago. I had a submission coming back which included a Weird Science Fantasy 29 Gaines copy graded 9.6 and a few other lesser books. About $25K in books total. When I opened the package, there were a few signature series moderns worth a few hundred bucks in the box. As you can imagine, I flipped a lid. But CGC took care of it with amazing speed. They got a hold of the guy with whom shipping labels had been switched, he overnighted the books to them and then they overnighted them to me. I had my books within a few days. Free grading credits were included, I'm sure for the poor guy that had to give back $25K worth of books. But to say I had a stressful few moments before I got a hold of CGC (received the package on a Saturday) is putting it mildly.
  11. You are correct in that it is silly money however it won't hold up. I was the underbidder. Apparently the top bidder is either unwilling or unable to follow through so they offered me the book for my underbid... which I declined as I didn't feel that I should bid against myself and pay a price that was inflated by a thrill bidder. I assume it will just go to auction again at some point. Sweet copy for a 9.6, hence my silly bid. The last 9.6 I had wasn't a 9.6 as it had a corner crease on the front cover. On a black cover book, even a small crease stood out like a sore thumb. I'd love to see what a 9.8 would fetch, if one ever gets certified.
  12. Why do those matter? Isn't "current TAT" what people use to gauge when they will get their books? Maybe they eliminated it because it wasn't relevant.
  13. Come again, what did they remove now? I'm seeing current TAT's posted on their site.
  14. Not directing this at you Jason. If you are slabbing for resale only and $2 on a modern or $5 on a SA book is the difference between you making money and not making money...... you are doing it wrong. Fact is that for resale, a lot of books weren't worth the grading cost. That number of books does not significantly change with this increase.
  15. Yes, super fast TAT's right now. But grading is not only tight, it's inconsistent. Probably because they have a bunch of new people but really, CGC needs to address it. As others have pointed out in this thread, 9.6's getting 9.6 for no apparent reason. It seems like they are purposely not grading things as 9.8 to keep the 9.8 numbers on the lower side. I'm getting back 45 modern tier books, most being copper age books and some early Walking Dead. A bunch of 9.6's with grading notes like lite spine stress and fingerprints. Fine. But then there are also a bunch of 9.6's with no notes. If you saw something like "light fingerprints center of back cover" to bring one book down to 9.6 and you noted it, then you must have seen something to bring these other books down too. So why no notes? Probably because there was nothing to note. Which should mean that it should have been a 9.8. Either note the defects so I know what you are downgrading for, or if there are no notable defects give it the 9.8 it deserves. As for inconsistency. One book received a 9.6 with the only note being "small lite printers crease right center of front cover". I can show you plenty of 9.8s with huge multiple printers creases. When did they start downgrading for printers creases? How about making that known to your customers? They went years without downgrading for that defect. Now apparently they are. Either don't switch your grading criteria, or at least inform us that you are so we know what to expect. CGC - I know you read these boards. Fix your grading problems. Fast TAT's are great but not at the expense of inconsistent grading.
  16. You know those 2 things aren't mutually exclusive, right? And how CGC having a comic related, branded label makes them any less neutral is beyond me. That's some next level conspiracy theory right there.
  17. How is this a manufactured collectible exactly? It's just aesthetic. If you want a pretty label, pay for it. If not, don't. I don't see any problem. Nor do I see how this is a "manufactured collectible".
  18. Here is the Detective 475 I am donating in case people want to see it before picking it. It's a 9.4 in my opinion but slight possibility of a 9.2 on a bad day.
