  1. Whose fault is that? If didnt have enough manpower on sight then thats a screwup on their part. The owner of the book is under no legal obligation to send the book back to help CGC cover up their mistake.. CGC has to survive the brunt of this on their own. Can someone post a full schedule of when CGC will be doing on-site grading? So just out of curiousity. Now that you "have lost ALL confidence in CGC graded books"; you will stop buying them, resubbing them and reselling them, correct?
  2. Agreed and I'm pretty sure there are several more of us out there. I think if a nice 9.6 came to market, it would eclipse the previous TC sale.
  3. I was surprised at the price of the 395. Hopefully I can nab a cheaper 9.2 copy soon. The only surprising thing about that book was what it went for the first time. Book is overgraded by at least .2
  4. I bought an ASM 14 from him a few months ago. Listed as either a 9.2 or 9.4, can't remember. The book looked 9.2/9.4 structurally however had very bad tanning on the interior of the covers. Would have been no better than an 8.0 from CGC. A defect that maybe someone not very experienced with grading would have overlooked. After seeing many more auctions after that from this guy, yeah I get a Dupcak feeling about it too.
  5. Pretty sure it is a printing flaw (the "scuffing"). Agree with it or not CGC has been consistent that they do not downgrade for it. Maybe at the 9.8 and above level they would but not 9.6 and below.
  6. Holy sheepdip! that's an ugly copy also, someone probably thinks they can smush it into a 9.8. Maybe, but I think it is more of the upcoming movie effect. Prices have been jumping for a couple of months now on most of the Adams Batmans and Tecs, as well as other books tied to the movie such as Tec #359. With the way things are going I am very tempted to start unloading some more of my keeper copies and buy them back later post-movie for less. I don't think it's either. That is the going price for a 9.6. Brutal tough book to find and I would have been in at a higher price point than this if it hadn't been so badly mis-wrapped. But some people don't care about mis-wraps
  7. looks like 9.2, i'll take it off your hands for OSPG and give you my grading notes for free That'll hit a 9.4... maybe 9.6 on a good day unless there is something that we can't see in the scan.
  8. Another effortless transaction on some books Cal purchased from me (thumbs u
  9. Easy answer. The market of digital 9s was created because people figured out bronze, copper and modern comic books are virtually worthless in near mint. They figured out that near mint copies are not rare at all because of all the bagging, boarding and hoarding between 1976 and up! So they had to create an artificial market to make some money. 9.2, 9.4, 9.6, 9.8 then 9.9 Some day we will see the 9.9 and a half! You are trying to make it sound like there were no differentiations of grade after NM before CGC, which is of course not true.
  10. You are mis remembering how things were before CGC. I have never liked low and mid grade books. I just get zero pleasure from owning and looking at them. Even 15 years before CGC I was paying multiples of guide for high grade books.
  11. Excellent transaction with Brock! Paid fast and kept up communication.
  12. It is about time, IMHO. I started picking up copies a couple of years ago, but chickened out on that 9.6 that was sitting on Clink for a while. The ask price was $1500, but when I put in lowball offers it triggered a confirm purchase at $825. Wish I had done it, because a 9.6 might be a $1500 book now. After selling these two all I am down to in hand is this copy: Top 5 Adams Batman cover IMO. Not easy to find in high grade either. I don't usually go after 9.8 insanity but this was too nice to pass up.
  13. This is something I haven't encountered before, or maybe just never noticed it. Any chance of pics Bob?
  14. I think this is a telltale sign as well however it's not a guarantee of a pressed book. There are copies out there that exhibit the sharp corners even with overhang that are not pressed. Hence the guessing factor that CGC is trying to avoid.
  15. Don't get me wrong with this post, depending on which day you catch me on I actually think the high grade market might crash for all 3 (GA, SA and BA) and then on other days I think the prices are sustainable. But my question is this, why would it crash because of the press and flip? There doesn't seem to be any lack of buyers at silly prices when they know the books are being pressed and flipped. What might "crash" based on your analysis, is the profit being made off the press and flip if the book isn't improved. Further, why limit to the SA market? Hasn't there been several well documented cases of GA books being pressed up several grades and commanding considerably more money? Actually as far as SA goes, you are only talking about the top couple of grade tiers, 9.4 to 9.6 type stuff. Wasn't there a couple of cases of mid grade GA books being pressed up to NMish?
  16. It's still at $255 from what I can see. What I'm not sure about is whether the Batman 227 actually has tape or if he copy/pasted the wrong description from the Batman 171 that does have tape. Can't really tell what is going on with the top staple. It might have been replaced but there doesn't appear to be a second set of staple holes on the outside of the front cover Either way, I wouldn't take the chance at the current bidding level.
  17. So true on the centering. Did you upgrade? No. Gave up trying to find a nicely centered 9.6. Nicely centered meaning no white on the spine at all? I've had 2 copies in 9.6 and seen a few others and this one is the closest I could come to "nicely centered".
  18. Ummmm... two face was just in the last movie and that did nothing for the book. 232 is by far the easiest of these to find in high grade so even though it is probably the biggest key I think it has the least potential for upward movement.
  19. I doubt it finishes under 15K. I agree. I think more in the $20K range. What did the first MS 5 go for in 9.8?
  20. Shaken comic syndrome. Damage like that happens during shipping when the book is loose in the well and slams into the side of the well. Especially when the book has a bit of edge overhang as it appears this one does. Yup, those are the most susceptible.

  22. Yeah, I'm hoping. It was already pressed, so to do it again won't hurt anything. I was surprised it was a 9.6, I thought the best it was going to do was a 9.4...so I'm nervous to put it back through the press again and then have it graded all over again. It will be interesting to see what they say. They didn't do it when they slabbed it. That is a classic case of SCS. Should press out as I doubt the paper is broken. I'm not sure what CGC does in cases of SCS when on the way back from CGC, should be interesting to see what their response is.
  23. They buy from Cpadoli/lexerific... that scammer group, thru other new id's..and even thru their own collectors_comics as a buyer... So you tell me,how would you feel about buying a previously undisclosed restored or overgraded book sold by Lexerific(bajubaby05 now) originally, now being sold third party....? I've had Ebay message conversations about this with them, and they don't care....just passing the BURN forward... Don't drink the KoolAid...this seller is has NO GOOD INTENTIONS. It's hard to overgrade a book if you don't give it a grade. Which in and of itself is shady as far as I'm concerned. They call it high grade but fail to actually tell you the grade. Hoping for the gambling ebay masses to pay up big in the hopes of a 9.4 when in reality it's more like a 7.0. Dizneyart plays this same game and it annoys me to no end.
  24. It's probably not the book you're thinking of. I bought this off ebay a few months ago. It was listed as a VF to NM along with most of the Adams run of HOM by one seller who I don't think regularly sells comics. I bought most of the run and they really did range from VF to NM, a couple were lower than VF and this was the nicest book in the bunch.
