  1. Yes I plan on holding it for a while but Sterling is right, IMO $800 was a steal for that book. Even though horror has considerably cooled off, I'd be willing to bet the price of that book that at auction it goes well over $1K. Congrats on the book...just curious...when did you hit the BIN? About 15 minutes after it was listed I think. I saw the wantlist email from CL and went and hit the BIN. Couldn't have been more than 15 minutes.

  3. Could anyone even imagine what would happen if Danny ever really got sent up the river, and admitted that he was the seller of these books? Depends. If the 'Tec is a blue holder 6.5 as suggested, I imagine there would be some interesting debate.... I seriously doubt that considering how much intense scrutiny this book went under and CGC had to be very aware of all the questions surrounding this book. It's not every day a Tec 27 comes into their building for grading. If it got a blue label, I'm pretty sure they were extra careful to check this one over. It was shown somewhere... grr. Are you sure? There were pictures of Todd with the book raw. Never with the book slabbed. It was conjecture that the new 6.5 was that book but as far as I know that was never confirmed by anyone with actual knowledge vs speculation.
  4. I knew about that 6.5 and the speculation that it is Todd's copy. So I take it that Eides never delivered on any of the "proof" he had that it was Dupcak that tried to sell those books to him and ended up selling them to Todd?
  5. Last I saw, Eides was ranting on some other message board about how he was going to PROVE that it was Dupcak that sold the Tec 27 to Todd. Of course he offered no actual proof besides his somewhat delusional ramblings. Just wondering if any further info came from either Eides or some other source on the true origin of that Tec 27.
  6. This would be true if CGC hadn`t just given pedigree status to the Rocky Common Mountain collection. I didn`t comment when the Toth collection was first brought to market by CGC, because in fact they had been pretty tough about giving pedigree status over the last few years. But when they recognized a pedigree that as far as I can tell represented lots of ultra-HG books from an era lousy with ultra-HG books, I was puzzled and irritated. I think both collections are borderline Pedigree quality. The Toth collection is DC only with a lot of the earlier stuff, although it may be highest graded, is still below 9.0. There are some phenomenal runs in ultra high grade though. The RMs are light on the keys in terms of grade but ULTRA high grade from the mid 60s on. My original point was that the Toth collection is not a SLAM DUNK Pedigree, which is what a lot of the posters were saying. I can see it getting the Pedigree designation but I'm not surprised that it didn't either. To say that it is undoubtedly a Pedigree without hesitation is just over-exhuberance IMO. This of course comes from someone who does not collect SA DC and it seems that all the proponents of the Toth collection being Pedigreed are the DC collectors on the board.
  7. Seriously, Your JLA set was mind-blowing. Too bad you had to break it up (except for the ones I got). Still waiting for an explanation from CGC as to why no Ped designation, before I rip them a new one. Top drawer Kudos to you & your Dad. Rick I'm not sure why everyone here thinks it's a slam dunk pedigree quality collection Most of the early stuff is either below 9.0 or not there, a few notable exceptions not withstanding. I guess it's part of the collection but too low grade to make the cut so it hasn't been slabbed. There's that lower grade thing again. There is also no Marvel representation, hence half or more of the Silver key books aren't in the collection at all. You can't make it a Pedigree bacause the Flash and JLA runs were all high grade. Don't get me wrong, this is a fantastic collection. I just don't see all of the uproar over why it wasn't called a pedigree.
  8. Just got back about 60 books from CGC. A few highlights
  9. I thought you might be going after a couple of the 9.6s. Glad you didn't have your sights set on the 52 Leaves me with only 1 book left for the 50-66 run in 9.6. But, what was the deal with the 2 43s that sold? The 9.4 sold for more than the 9.6 Congrats, Chris on the 52. I was watching that one and a few others but opted to just pursue the 54. I don't get the 43. It makes no sense. The only thing I can think of is the bidders on the 9.4 thought it would go cheaper than the 9.6 and chose to ignore the 9.6. I'm sure whoever won the 9.4 is going when he saw the final price of the 9.6. Personally, I think CLink could benefit from spacing their auctions a little further apart, say 5-10 minutes. This way bidders go could go for the 9.6 first and if they fail, they'd still have a few minutes to pursue the 9.4. Yeah that was my thought as well. It wasn't a weak or fugly 9.6 either Nice score on the 54
  10. I was wondering if you had picked that up. Pretty good deal, it's a nice looking 9.4

  12. Kudos to Bronty for a sweet X-Men book. Bronty knows how to grade Need I say more? Speaking of which, I don't think that I ever gave AK(CaptainsOfIndustry) his props. Bought a Surfer 3 from him many months ago, he called it a 9.4 and CGC agreed Maybe this accurate raw grading is a Canadian thing
  13. Well I'll tell you what. Since 49 is not a scarce book, find me 5 copies in 9.4 and I'll pay you 9.4 FF 48 price for all 5. How's that sound?
  14. Overdue KUDOS to both AK(Captains of Industry) and Bruce(BB13). Both of these guys are class acts and extremely easy to deal with, both on the selling and buying end.
  15. You're right AK. Between his stalling tactics and the fact that he gives refunds for books that do come back PLODs as well as the fact that most people that buy from him have no idea of his m.o. keeps his negs to a minimum. You and I have both bought books from him that came back restored and neither of us negged him. In your case you were unaware of the whole story and in my case by the time the book came back from CGC the 3 month feedback window had passed. He also gave me a refund so negging him would have been tenuous at best.
  16. Strange you should mention that -- Blackshotzy (who is no relation to hammer) is busy threatening Doyle in Grading and Restoration. It's like old times. Hey, LordRahl -- wanna be a villain? I'm really short of villains. Villify me. Can I twist off some heads and use CGC slabs as decapitating devices ala Oddjob? Oh oh can I, can I?
  17. Anyone offended by this thread needs to check their ego at the door. Or go buy a nice new shiny CGC 10 book with a phallic symbol on the cover to make up for certain defficiencies. Joanna, this is some of the best reading on the board since we've lost Hammer and his lovable threats of bodily harm. However your writing is much more creative, after all there are only so many ways to dismember someone with your bare hands. Great stuff!!!
  18. Back to the original question. 20-100 books in the $50-100 range. Lots more potential for growth and certainly more bang for your buck if you actually want to read them(what a novel idea). Try to buy raw if you know how to grade conservatively since most stuff that you can buy for under $100 you can find in HG raw and don't have to shell out the multiples for a slabbed copy. Key and minor key books from Marvel and DC are always a good bet especially in 9.0 or better.
