  1. I think it's funny everyone is basically talking about Marvels, but nobody mentioned DCs?

Want BA that will hold its value? Go for Neal Adams Batman books. Clear winners still.

That's like Batman 200-255, isn't it? Is that his whole run?

i think FK meant his detective run too.

    Any Adams Batman cover.

Tec 395-411 (roughly) some great Adams covers afterwords.

    Bats 227 (cover only) 243-245, 251, 255

These are the notable covers, but those are the major ones I think of.

Completely agree. If you can find a Tec 395, 397, 402, 404 or 411 in 9.6 for under a $1000, go for those. Batman 235, 243 as well. I would put HOM 179 on the list as well but you can't get a 9.4 for under $1000 if you can even find a 9.4 to begin with.

  2.

If it comes up for sale, any guesses as to what it might fetch?

    $100 BAZILLION Dollars! :insane:

Looks like it did not crack the $4,000 mark. Man, has this book tanked. 9.6 copies were selling for close to that just a few months ago.

What was the PQ and centering of it? Everyone wants white or ow-white and perfect wrap.

Front to back mis-wrap and not sur eof the PQ but I think it was OW/W.

The miswrap was severe, it had an effect on the sale price. Over-priced to begin with.

  3. I can't believe one of our awesome board detectives has not figured out who the seller is yet.

If it was a Danny Dupcak thread we would already have a Google image of the guys house so we would know where to throw the toilet paper. lol

I know the participants. I'm just waiting for a fair explanation before weighing in.

Is "I got a better offer and took it" a fair explanation? (shrug) Because all word-smithing aside, that's what it's probably going to boil down to.

If that is what happened, Chris...no it's not.

It's unethical, dishonest and downright shitty.

Remember Jeff's Batman #1, which he 'bought' from Silver Arse, only to discover they had decided to sell it elsewhere for more coin? Same thing...and Silver Arse rightly got pounded for breaking a deal.

Oh I completely agree Nick. Money changed hands, deal was done and the seller is a person_who_is_obnoxiously_self-impressed for renegging. I'd be pretty surprised if that isn't what went down though.

  4. If Bat-man bought the book, I cant imagine him doing it knowing that the book was allready sold. He seems like a stand up guy!

I hope he can help clear the mystery up.

Although he did remove the book from his sig line as soon as this thread started.

Wonder why that might be? hm

I would cut the owner some slack... I'd guess the pulled book was an attempt to head off the mob of torches headed towards the seller until he had a chance to respond. Not too hard to figure out the seller's ID from the clues here.

Very disappointed at the events presented in this thread and I do hope the seller will weigh in soon. :wishluck:

No clue who the seller is (shrug) There are some of us that don't pay attention to GA sales but do a fair bit of buying on the boards.

  6. Ok, the court proceeding today was fascinating but we are just getting started.

Unfortunately due to motions that are to be filed it is regrettably best I not post anything substantive related to what transpired, but suffice to say we are very pleased as to how the matter is progressing and my presence was not welcomed.

There is another court date in June and the resumption of the hearing in July. These are open proceedings and I will post the details as we get closer in case anyone wishes to attend.

BTW, it was confirmed Mr. Dupcak, who claims not to be in the comic business, is reading this thread. :gossip:

    Interesting. hm:hi:

    THAT needed confirmation? :tonofbricks:

  7. Very, very nice looking Phantom Stranger 10 CGC 9.6 up right now in one of Jerry Weist's auctions, if I didnt already have a nice copy Id probably blow the bank out for it as it is one of Adams' best horror covers.

Yep, it's a beauty...and I'm hoping it flies under the radar, otherwise it won't come cheap! :shy:

    too late.....

It seems my luck was in tonight. Got it for about half my top bid after I was outbid on the last one that sold in 9.6 on CC.

  8. Tell me someone on these boards who plans on holding the book for a long time picked up the HOM 179 9.4 that appeared on Clink last night for the crazy price of $800 ? Sterling ?

Yes I plan on holding it for a while but Sterling is right, IMO $800 was a steal for that book. Even though horror has considerably cooled off, I'd be willing to bet the price of that book that at auction it goes well over $1K.

Congrats on the book...just curious...when did you hit the BIN?

About 15 minutes after it was listed I think. I saw the wantlist email from CL and went and hit the BIN. Couldn't have been more than 15 minutes.

Now the questions are: Do you have an undercopy available? And if so, what is the grade?

:sorry: No under copy, I was holding out for a 9.4.

  11. To make things more interesting there was a shill in the Corral that seemed to be Dupcak himself, but who knows. This shill (Ace Ventura) tried to make it look like I was Dupcak. :D Lots of fun.

Could anyone even imagine what would happen if Danny ever really got sent up the river, and admitted that he was the seller of these books? :tonofbricks:

Depends. If the 'Tec is a blue holder 6.5 as suggested, I imagine there would be some interesting debate.... lol

I seriously doubt that considering how much intense scrutiny this book went under and CGC had to be very aware of all the questions surrounding this book. It's not every day a Tec 27 comes into their building for grading. If it got a blue label, I'm pretty sure they were extra careful to check this one over.

Do you mean that someone had a scan of the book in a slab? I really don't think that's right. I think I would remember that, since it would have changed the whole debate. After all, Eide challenged Todd to a $1000 bet that it wouldn't come back blue.

    It was shown somewhere... grr.

Are you sure? There were pictures of Todd with the book raw. Never with the book slabbed. It was conjecture that the new 6.5 was that book but as far as I know that was never confirmed by anyone with actual knowledge vs speculation.

  12. Im sure that Heritage promoted the collection to CGC as a Pedigree, and to the Toths that they would give it a strenuous but not guaranteed effort to do so. CGC has been very stingy about Pedigree status for years, so this collection missing out just puts it on that list of near misses. Still great company to be in.

This would be true if CGC hadn`t just given pedigree status to the Rocky Common Mountain collection. I didn`t comment when the Toth collection was first brought to market by CGC, because in fact they had been pretty tough about giving pedigree status over the last few years. But when they recognized a pedigree that as far as I can tell represented lots of ultra-HG books from an era lousy with ultra-HG books, I was puzzled and irritated.

I think both collections are borderline Pedigree quality. The Toth collection is DC only with a lot of the earlier stuff, although it may be highest graded, is still below 9.0. There are some phenomenal runs in ultra high grade though. The RMs are light on the keys in terms of grade but ULTRA high grade from the mid 60s on. My original point was that the Toth collection is not a SLAM DUNK Pedigree, which is what a lot of the posters were saying. I can see it getting the Pedigree designation but I'm not surprised that it didn't either. To say that it is undoubtedly a Pedigree without hesitation is just over-exhuberance IMO. This of course comes from someone who does not collect SA DC and it seems that all the proponents of the Toth collection being Pedigreed are the DC collectors on the board. hm

  13. Like I said earlier w/ just the first 3 JLA's we were winning that set. lol

Seriously, Your JLA set was mind-blowing. Too bad you had to break it up (except for the ones I got). Still waiting for an explanation from CGC as to why no Ped designation, before I rip them a new one.

Top drawer Kudos to you & your Dad. :golfclap:

    Rick

I'm not sure why everyone here thinks it's a slam dunk pedigree quality collection (shrug) Most of the early stuff is either below 9.0 or not there, a few notable exceptions not withstanding. I guess it's part of the collection but too low grade to make the cut so it hasn't been slabbed. There's that lower grade thing again. There is also no Marvel representation, hence half or more of the Silver key books aren't in the collection at all. You can't make it a Pedigree bacause the Flash and JLA runs were all high grade. Don't get me wrong, this is a fantastic collection. I just don't see all of the uproar over why it wasn't called a pedigree.
