  1. So quick question and I would like everyone's opinion. Do you think that in the busy convention season, CGC grades a little bit softer than normal? Like are they in such a rush to get these books out that they might not see everything on a book? Or are they grading them just as tightly and just having the customers wait it out on the back end?

If anything I'd say they are doing a pretty good job. I've seen some 9.6 books come back that I have no idea what kept it from being a 9.8 though so I'd say they are leaning to the strict side if anything.

Good to know. I wish CGC would have Grader's Notes on 9.6s like some other companies do.

Some of my 9.6s have graders notes. But only some. And it's usually "lite spine stress"

  2. I have 120 books arrived on 3/20. Today, it's been 4 months. Still listed as graded.

    What tier?

MST. Usually, I get them within 3.5 months. To not have shipped in 4 months has been a change.

You should call them. Something is wrong. I already have my MST books back that they received on 3/26.

  3. Could be BS. But it's not the type of book that would be unusual to have 100 undistributed copies of so I wouldn't be too surprised if it was legit. What is highly unlikely is that a large percentage would be 9.8. Unless he went to the trouble of pressing them first hm

  4. Just a guess, but I have a feeling that none of his books is going grade above 9.0.

One owner for 38 years who never read them seems like they should be in high grade. hm

If they were bought and distributed the way most newsstand copies were distributed at the time, actually, several of them would NOT be in high grade because of the way they would have been bound.

Nobody else has doubts about the story though? Bought for 24 cents each, sold three weeks afterwards (before the movie came out if this is true) for $3, etc.

I'd love to see a picture of these 100 comics when they come back from CGC. How much would someone have to drop to have 100 comics of this value graded?

About $1700. Really not an impediment if you have 100 high grade issues.

  5. I have 100 Star Wars No. 1 Comics

They're all at CGC at this time for slabbing.

Anyone have any advice or comments regarding the liquidation of this hoard ?

Obviously I'm looking to capitalize on the release of the new movie coming out in December. But I dont know how to go about it without overwhelming the market with one hundred issues in fresh mint condition. Or am I overthinking it and the marketplace is big enough to absorb all of them without effecting the prices ?

What do you guys think ?

    What you should do is

    1) NOT flood the census with high grade copies.

    2) If you ignore #1, whatever you do, don't tell everyone that you are flooding the census with high grade copies.

    3) Realize that you are entering the wonderful world of "diminishing returns". Whatever works for 1 copy or 5 copies becomes infinitely harder at 20 copies, exponentially harder for 50, and untenable at 100.

100 slabbed copies, if you actually want to maximize profits and not destroy the market, will take years to move. The only way to move faster is to spread them out...a couple copies on EBay....a couple to Heritage....a couple to MCS....a couple to CLink....and then travel to every single convention during convention season and sell a few each weekend.

Even then...unless you start giving them away at 1/2 GPA...you are looking at a very long term commitment.

No matter where you sell and how you sell don't let anyone (else) know how many you have. Nothing kills the deal on a collectible item faster than pulling one out of a case of 100 in front of a possible buyer.

Good advice. Have you told greggy this?

  6. How many people sneak a peek at the grades once it reaches Graded? I try to wait until I get the books in hand as it makes it more fun opening up the package. I few times I have peaked ahead. Sometimes really happy and sometimes disappointed (you know how that goes). Just curious.

I would say none... because you can't see the grades when it hits Graded :baiting:

  7. 1st sub:

    Standard Modern (5 books)

    Dropped off at C2E2 4/25

    Received 5/4

    Verified 6/29

Based on what others have posted for timeframes between Verified and Grading/Shipping, I'm guessing this will unfortunately go well past the current 55 business-day turnaround.

Yeah 55 days is a pipe dream. It's just getting worse every week it seems :frustrated:

  8. Hi All: I have been very fortunate to have been collecting for 55 years. I've never sold anything on the boards except via private sales. All of the really good stuff is long gone but I have a lot of mid grade books. Some non slabbed pedigrees that are a wonder to behold and smell.

I have been fortunate enough to have been involved with the Pacific Coast Collection and the Western Penn.

My references include: Tim Hui, Tom Brulatto, Doug Schmell and Steve Borock among others.

It's time to try to liquidate what I have left in my collection. Most of the books are DC's as I've never been a big Marvel fan.

    Thanks, Tom

Is there a tentative date for this?

  9. Is anyone getting Modern Slow Track (NOT prescreen) anywhere even close to the stated 55 business day turn?

Mine are at 47 business days right now and still only at Scheduled For Grading, which given how long the other stages take means I'm looking at something north of 70 business days and nothing even remotely close to the 55 they have on the website.

    that is correct

    :facepalm::frustrated::censored:

So anyone know what the real TATs are for MST with no prescreen?

  11. My books were marked as shipped last week, but I haven't received any tracking information or a shipment notice. Anybody else experiencing the same thing? I know it usually takes a few days, but it has been a week.

It's somewhat random on those. I had 7 different subs get shipped back about 3 weeks ago and I received shipment notice for 4 of them (shrug)

  12. CCS QuickPress + MST Pre-screen

    Over/Under is 5 months

    Received by CCS 04/06/15

    Received 05/01/15

    Verified 05/18/15.

    Scheduled for grading 05/21/15

Am I reading your time table right?

The books were received by CGC on May 1st, for a modern slow track and already at SFG? How the hell did you manage that?

    this can't be right.

Someone has some 'splaining to do. My 4/22 MST isn't even Verified yet :frustrated:
