  1. That's the problem with lumping the lazy, unprofessional, and lax with the truly dishonest, evil and detrimental. It makes the real bad guys not look as bad, and that's never good. ................. It's an interesting point....
  2. I agree its no excuse vis a vis taking responsibility for what duty one owes to others. My point is only that incompetence and poor service are not the same as dishonesty and deception, and for me the difference between PL and HoS hinges on this distinction. I agree with your perception. I am a bit hard nosed when it comes to these types of issues and perhaps more tough than fair. The following statement is a OPINION of mine, thats all.... In this day and age there seems to be more and more lazy and greedy business people out there than honest merchants. I think that issues like this are taken way too lax and allow for room for this type of behavior. I just choose to take a tough stance and say "No way" to any sort of sordid behavior at all. I will refuse to do business with this person, or any person on HoS or PL, rectified or not. As a consumer I have been around enough and I feel that if enough people would take this stance, these issues would dwindle away to nothing. Sellers seem to forget, without their customers, they have no way of making a living. There used to be a decent amount of respect for that. Not so much anymore....
  3. Here is what John (J Dub) was told by the artist himself Pretty bad when the artist is even saying that you will not follow through On this point, agreed. "Dragging his feet on that like crazy" certainly says terrible customer service, maybe even negligence of a kind, but do you believe that he has been dishonest in his dealings or with his clients? I ask this because, speaking for myself, I associate HoS with more than just incompetence or poor service (which can be fixed as a PL case) but as having the additional element of dishonesty. IMO poor service or incompetence is the same as ignorance of the law. It's no excuse.
  4. I realize that for those involved this is self-evident, but for the rest of us who also feel a responsibility to participate and vote, some summary of his dealings is necessary to demonstrate a clear pattern of abuses and justify HoS. I'm assuming this is about something more than poor customer service. Facilitators and witnesses are two different things. Witnesses are either CGC Employees or individuals under contract with CGC to witness for a specific event (CAWs). Facilitators act as liaisons between s customers and CGC to facilitate the SS process. They are subject to a code of conduct. Has Menace broken this code? Don't forget, he screwed this buyer a second way also... In this instance, an artist has completed sketches, and has been waiting for Menace to contact him to be able to send the books to CGC. Seems like Menace doesn't want to respond to anybody either via PM or e-mail. Yep, he's a gem all right. He is NOT doing the job he is supposed to be doing. You cannot run a business offering a service, take people's money, then not do it.
  5. This bothers me, and I think SHOULD bother a lot of people. This is a position of great trust and respect and someone who messes with someone else' property as a third party should totally be held liable for any loss and or damage. CGC should be paying close attention to this issue IMO if they wish to have their integrity held in tact...
  6. Clarification please....are we talking about a CGC employee or a representative? This is making me very wary of submitting books at a convention for signing and so forth...
  7. Uh... um... OK? -slym Cause I'm Canadian and everyone blames us for clubbing seals....and its just me....awkward.
  8. That was a well thought out and detailed response. Just wanted to make mention of how off-base lscomics was about me disparaging the international comic collecting community. If anyone would have cared to ask they would have found out that I am one of the more long standing and established foreign variant guys. I've established contacts with publishers on several continents and dozens of countries to get NM books across the globe and in the hands of collectors. If you have a Serbian Image book in your collection there's a 90% chance it came over in one of my purchases. If you have an Argentinian book it's probably 35-40% from one of my transactions. That's why when someone gets mad about what they think is a knee-jerk reaction and they proceed to make their own knee-jerk reaction they may find themselves on the -end of being wrong. It was never about foreign variants, it was about people being willing to justify and rationalize anything to get their hands on sweet-sweet books or sweet-sweet cash. Some comic collectors will let anything go to get their fix. That includes making excuses for behavior that, without the incentive of personal interest, they would never tolerate otherwise. My reaction wasn't knee-jerk. Like Define999 said, I simply asked for clarification on what you had posted. Maybe you took it that way since it's not the first time you and I have disagreed. I don't know. Even having read the whole thread it still came across as condemnation of the sellers (and by extension buyers) of foreign books. That never happened though, it just became a meme-fest within the already out of control situation. It's always nice to see members of this "community" you guys are so proud of treat other members with such respect. It's instances (and to be clear I mean in regards to my post, not the situation with solarcadet) like this that cause people that aren't board members to not want to become members. I've talked to more than one person at local shops and conventions about the boards and had them state that they don't want anything to do with this place because it's full of elitist jerk-holes. You really are seeing a mountain when there isn't even a molehill. -slym Yeah. I had to stop clubbing baby seals before people here even knew my name
  9. Umm no I don't think you do. You probably have issues with authority that makes you post comments that would make Gary Busey blush.
  10. Don't need paypal for that, they just come over and steal it anyways...
  11. No PM neccesary - with personal payments, from a PayPal balance, you have no protection or recourse if something goes wrong through a non-eBay (or other merchant) account. Scammers like to ask for it so they can rip people off easier -slym K... Please bear with me, I am pretty thick... I have a paypal account, and someone has a comic I wish to purchase. I agree to the price and send ask that person for their paypal email. In my paypal, I use that email as the seller and funds are exchanged any way I choose in my paypal account. Am I using a personal account for this transaction? You're doing it right, just make sure to check that it's for goods/services if you don't intend for it to be personal. If you sending personal, you check the option for friends/family. (thumbs u Thanks guys

  13. Can somebody help me and explain in PM what the difference in buying and selling with personal paypal? I don't understand, and fairly new to all this...
  14. Excellent deal. Excellent packaging. Look forward to purchasing more from this seller Great job!
  15. Good stuff, got here in decent time, Thanks
  16. I am confident I would get a refund. I honestly don't think you guys would be talking like this if you actually dealt with him. I think your viewpoint on the whole thing is skewed by your "conversation" with him. But again, my opinion is biased. I got my book, I dealt with him one on one. All I have is the facts of the transaction before me. I paid, he shipped and here it is...Not in the best quality, but from the look, a non collector would say this is in fine condition to have. Its not foxed, the print is really bright, the cover ink is thick. No chips, no discolouration, no tears, no rips and pages are brilliant white. Without the rust, this is a awesome book. Again, my opinion is biased. I love the Maxx, I love having a rare find. This is just one of 12 that I am seeking.
  17. It's good the book arrived, because you took tremendous risk going outside ebay. But how is that book a 9.0+? No idea, I haven't gone in depth with the grading process. To me I would say its around a 8.5. But I will not or cannot say anything for sure. I am not good at that kind of thing. Do I think it's worth the price I paid....well, depends on how rare these actually turn out to be. If these 3 plus the other few I know of turn out to be the only ones, well its totally worth it. If all the other 99 show up...then no, I want a better copy You tell me With migrating rust and all the damage you can see, that is a 6.0-6.5 There you have it...not great, but what can you do  Return it because the guy couldn't be bothered to state that it had rust, which any non-comic person, even my mom, could figure out is not a good thing....? It's not worth what you paid for it with rusty staples, regardless of how rare. Rust is destructive; once it starts, it is difficult to stop, and impossible to reverse. , I am going to return it just so someone else can have it, or worse, have it kept in that climate so its totally worthless? No, I'll take care of it, try to find another.

  19. I take a real risk with dealing with anyone. So far I have made four purchases on this board. Two have completed, and I couldn't be more happy with the results. The other two are still in transaction....if these fall through, will it deter me? Yes....yes it would. Would I cry off ever trusting someone outside of eBay again? Never. People are people. I tend to think of myself as a good judge of character and keep a level head about what I want and what I am paying for and what risk I am willing to take. Everyone makes mistakes. Just because I make a mistake doesn't mean I will just sit back and never engage again. Thats just lunacy.
