  1. This price drop will have the opposite effect.
  2. The $55 is the savings between 135 and 80. I guess the 150 and 135 were relevant as the old prices, and then they dropped the whole thing to $100 minimum. On Unlimited, I can see dropping the fee by 10 or 20%, but why would you drop the minimum? Did they always do that? I haven't submitted under Unlimited. I can now see why the Vintage is funky - they raised the base price to $40. Dropping everything else, raising that. Odd.
  3. The Vintage section of this chart makes no sense to me: ============================================ ============================================== If it was $37, and you get 10% off now, why isn't the NEW PRICE $33.30 (like the PREVIOUS PRICE in Elite chart, which was 10% off). Says $36. And in the Elite chart, the NEW Price should be $29.60 after getting 20% off. $37x 0.8 = $29.60 The SAVINGS column on Vintage is worse than the Modern savings. That can't be right, on a higher cost using the same percentages off. Are they still teaching math at school, or has that gone the way of cursive and grammar? And the Unlimited minimums look wacky. Right now, on the online comic pricing schedule, the minimum is showing as $100. I don't have any idea what $150/$90 and $135/$80 minimums are. Makes no sense. But I haven't submitted an Unlimited. Maybe someone else can make sense of it.
  4. The announcement says: What if I have a submission at CGC now? The new pricing is effective for submissions received on or after January 24, 2024, even if the packing slips were created before the price changes. Yeah, you should call. Doesn't surprise me. I sent in 6 orders in October that were eligible for the pressing $5 credit. They charged the full amount. I had to call on EACH order to get it fixed, and they still owe me for 2 orders since January 4. They are quick to take your money, slow to give you their money.
  5. That's right, I forgot about that flash sale. Good catch @DougC
  6. I think the only discounts for the membership itself is upon renewal, or using the auto-pay option. But for higher tier memberships, you get $150 fee credits to use. And of course there is the free membership available.
  7. Looks like pressing dropped even more. My recollection is that a Modern press was most recently $15, and no discounts on pressing. Now $12, and with a 20% discount it's $9.80. If the chart on that link is correct, that is.
  8. This would be more of a hindrance than a benefit. People will "think" they see things in this micro-scan that indicate that the book has been swapped, just due to the tiny size. There will be false positives all over the place. Better if they could photograph 1 tiny, distinctive defect (just about every comic has one), and state the location of that defect. Then put that closeup image and location on the back of the label, like a fingerprint.
  9. If I recall, you have to go through a confirmation screen to accept, so hard to be an accident. Maybe if you goofed twice in a row on the same process, or had too much to drink. Then you deserve the result, own it. If I was the seller, and did it by "accident", I would still honor the accepted offer, blame myself for being an idi0t, and take the hit. As far as what you can do after the order was canceled by the seller, not much. You can't force him to honor the accepted offer. Feedback revenge is an option, well deserved.
  10. I'm a little confused (as usual). If these are hoarded boxes you are now just opening, how are you showing the comics as graded? Are the box photos with the raw comics from an earlier time?
  11. I watched Geraldo Rivera open Al Capone's empty safe. I can watch this.
  12. If you put the dehumidifier in the room, instead of in the closet, the temp probably would not rise much, if at all. The heat from the compressor on the dehumidifier is causing the small closet to overheat, but it should get dispersed in a decent sized room. And the closet would still be at the same relative humidity as the room itself. They do make some operating noise, so in a bedroom could be a problem.
  13. That is what is known as a "Maverick". I don't believe it is penalized at all, shouldn't affect the grade. Unless you try to mess with it by neatly trimming the excess away. That would NOT be the thing to do, as it could be construed as Restoration.
  14. Could it be that everyone is sticking a fork in this topic at the same time? Or did the NFL Playoffs pull everyone away this weekend?
  15. That looks like more than a "bend". It looks to be previously hard-folded, which when pressed, will still show where it was folded, otherwise known as a crease.
  16. A 7.0 is still a quality grade. You will never know what was in the amateur restorer's head. Probably the most basic of motivations - "This could look a lot better if that white spot wasn't there. Where's my pen?"
  17. Could be. You would think, though, that they would say "center of back spine". Somebody should help us all out and standardize the descriptive order for cover locations. Like front or back first, top or bottom next, finishing with left, center or right. Then we could all be on the same "page". Maybe there's already a rule in place, and I'm the last to know.
  18. The notes said where it was, in the text you quoted: "the grader notes say 'small amount of color touch on right center back cover"
  19. CGC does a resto check on each book. That is one reason people like to buy graded books. No surprises, you are guaranteed an authentic book. Although resto has been missed from time to time, very rare. I believe that the first thing a grader checks for is restoration, after someone has done a page count at intake to make sure the book is complete. A trained eye will find signs of it, and there are always the usual suspect areas - corners, spine tics, edges, etc. Letting light reflect off the glossy surface can show inconsistencies in that reflection, due to the original finish possibly being worn off and recolored. It's very hard to duplicate the gloss in a perfectly smooth manner. I've heard that it is all done by eye, not with a black light, but maybe a magnifying glass once you think you have found something. And of course the grader who finds it will check with others for their opinion.
  20. +1 to the above. I bet every collector eventually has a resto situation that bites them in the behind. Hate it when that happens.
  21. Professional restoration costs money. Anyone with a pen, pencil, marker, etc., can touch up color to hide a white area.
  22. The ongoing severe snow storms and plummeting temperatures have slowed everything in that region to a standstill. Be thankful you are not in Illinois. It'll get to you eventually. In the meantime, you'll have to have something no comic collector has - patience.
