  1. I posted this over in the Modern boards too, but tangentially relevant to this conversation too... Looks like Usagi's primed to become a bit more popular now: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/22/arts/design/usagi-yojimbo-new-publisher.html
  2. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/22/arts/design/usagi-yojimbo-new-publisher.html Ok... I thought DH had been a good steward of this book, and i'm surprised to hear that it's moving... I also always really liked that it was B&W... not stoked about that change, but I'll still read. Anyone know any back story? Maybe just thinking he might get more market reach with a new #1 and a publisher change? Can't hate that... Really hope IDW can stop doing all their damned RI covers with this series too, but I doubt it. That's the biggest reason this news scares me... but I bet they do bring in some new readers...
  3. That is awesome! I've been looking for one of those too... congrats!!
  4. I've been hoping for news from this too! I wasn't excited to read this based on the solits... but I almost never want to read Brian Wood books based on the solits. Then, as almost always happens with Brian Wood books, it was really freaking good.
  5. Was it previously discussed... what effect, if any, did Peter's sale to Nikolodian have on this book? Would the trajectory have been the same without the IDW series? (I was loving volume 4 and am still pretty bummed everything but rebooted...)
  6. Agree with most everything you said... so after BP this was around $17k, right? Not sure where the previous sale of this book happened a year ago, but hopefully it was somewhere w/o a BP. I'm sure the seller was hoping for more than a $60 gain, but at least they got their $$ back...
  7. Was this store eventually near Biltmore Mall? Was there a previous location? There were 2 main stores in Asheville when I started buying in the early 90's... I'm pretty sure Super Giant and DW was my first real shop too, but for some reason I'm thinking Super Giant was the name of the other store off of, like, Montford Ave or something. One of the 2 was on a pretty steep hill, I seem to remember for some reason. (Or maybe I'm completely thinking of another city!) EDIT: Pastimes was the other shop at the time! Looks like it's still around but in a new location...
  8. That Fugitoid looks pretty nice... mine's all kinds of wavy on the top edge :-/ Corners looks sharp too... Nice find!
  9. I've still not read it... one day I'll remember to add it to an order from somewhere!
  10. I agree with this, completely. Same with Surfer, but that's why it's been fun to go back and read these early stories. Was just re-reading the Nocenti run on Daredevil where DD was in hell (or whatever) and SS showed up for a hot minute and was gone. I like the idea better that both those characters were kind of mysterious and it was a special thing when they showed up...
  11. I had a TMNT book where the half of the interior wraps were printed completely blank... It also come back Qualified with a note that there was a manufacturing error. Sounds like maybe you've got the same thing going on. Your book looks pretty nice though! Did it grade well?
  12. The (to my knowledge) authenticity in representation of the culture combined with Stan's long and impressive resume plus the consistency of work and character along with the unique visual representation make, in my opinion, a strong case for at least respecting the work... plus I just find the stories incredibly fun and engaging, so I love Usagi and feel super lucky to have SS still churning out nearly monthly tales. Tails? Most of that, however, could also probably be said for Sim and Cerebus... and I never liked that book. But I'd still rather have a Cerebus 1 than IH181...
  13. Just got my shipment today and despite paying for Mylites and half-backs most of my books are in regular bags and boards... the others are in mylites but with some crappy board in them... basically posterboard given how it bends. I don't see a lot of damage yet, but I haven't had time to pull everything out and scan it. Definitely seems like the books are in better condition, but here's yet another problem. They used to be so good... wtf is going on with them now?
  14. and my FF40 finally showed up... I mean... come on. DD could have taken the other DD without the FF! They just screwed things up... Then Reed turned Ben to the Thing b/c he "had" to (which he didn't) and then didn't help in the fight just to break Doom's sense of self-worth... and somehow in the middle of that sent Daredevil home!? This was certainly fun, but that was ridiculous. Should have let Ben stay Ben and let Matt take out DD like he would have done if Reed hadn't interfered!
  15. I'm torn between apologizing for any trouble or saying, "you're welcome" for finding the issue :-p Regardless, I'm saying, "thank you" for taking a look at the book in question... Thank you!!!
  16. It certainly felt like he was trying to get to some substance... with the ice cream guy who killed the little kids... Did you like his run on Spider-Man at all? I thought it always seemed like he was *trying* to say something but never quite got there. Whether that was because his pencils were so great (especially then, but I still think so) or b/c he couldn't tell a meaningful story I don't know... But I definitely felt like he was trying. I do hate it when I see Todd coming back to write a book but not draw it... :-/ Whenever I think about Spawn it just makes me remember how much I love Erik Larsen.
  17. Nice, thank you! I'll check that out and see what's what
  18. I bought a slabbed 165 a little while ago and then bought 164-166 on Comixology to read the story... which was pretty dope (but now I have to get FF 66 & 67!)... Even though I'm very disappointed that the story title doesn't have anything to do with her hairdo. Even better, however, was the Galactus story that followed. The whole mess with Thor being punished for his Warrior's Madness and the little altercation with Loki was a little hamfisted and anti-climactic (really? Loki steal's Don's staff only to be immediately zapped back to Asgard by Odin who leaves the staff with DonThor? What was the point of all that? Does this have some kind of ramification later on?) Anyway... Balder's all fixed up, and the Warriors 3 protect Earth, and China is shooting a nuclear man at California, and... who cares... where's Thor? Monologuing in a spaceship until, what? Something can stop Odin's space boat? Looks like Galactus is lonely and wants to chat, but Thor's all tempestuous and trying to get it in with the hammer (every damn problem is a nail to this guy!)... Gally blows some hallucinogenic smoke his way, puts a stop to Thor's temper-tantrum, and gets to talking. I always thought that Galactus was the last of the beings from the Universe prior to ours, but this story has him as the last being from his home planet within our Universe. Did this get retconned? When? I like the idea of him coming from the previous universe much better. Still really liked this story! They didn't waste much time on a ridiculous fight, which I appreciated, and the origin story was pretty cool... although Kirby's poppin' pencils had to have had a lot to do with that. They even look great on my little phone screen. Not totally sure why they stuck a Watcher in there (and referred to him as "The" Watcher), but he... you know... watched. For some reason. Also not sure why, if Odin can just pop in on an intergalactic phone call, he didn't just do that in the first place. Is he only allowed to call Friends and Family? I suppose Galactus wouldn't be in his top 5. And this cover is just so cool... Romita Thor soaring out of a Kirby Galactus? Right on. I always hated the idea of digital comics, but I've been loving it lately as I've been reading a bunch of SA Thor and FF... $0.99/issue? Yes, please. 170 looks like kind of a dud, but I just picked up raw copies of 148-150 that should be here this week, so I'm sure I'll end up picking back up here so I can get to the Wrecker story in 171 after I read his intro. And then I've got to find where they revamped Galactus's origin... probably not a Silver Age question, but does anyone know?
  19. That really is neat... Are those recent photos? Also pretty cool (and surprising) that not that much has changed... except for maybe that yellow ladder!
  20. Two of the first comics I bought off the stands and still two of my favorite covers ever. (Especially when seen together!) Just waiting for the guy on CAF who owns the DD cover to get tired of it...
  21. Yeah, I definitely wasn't meaning to say anything about them as a whole as I've bought from them several times raw and slabbed with zero problems! And hope to do so again... this one was just strange!
  22. That's a cool way of looking at it, but I don't think I would be able to resist pulling out all the pages and laying them on the floor I was thinking about picking up a second copy of Thor 148 for investment... my raw copy is around 9.0, but certainly not 9.6... The more I look at this one, however, the more I think I can see where the staple has come out... I also just realized I had GPA prices for 9.4's in my head and not 9.6. I thought I might have found a deal, but that's just *WAY* too good to be true. I'm going to try finishing off my FF early SS appearances instead of chasing another copy of this. If anyone feels like rolling the dice... https://reececomics.com/product/thor_148_9_6/
