There's a really cool 1976 Marvel splash page up for auction crediting artwork to "The Tribe". I remember something about the great Neal Adams using the pseudonym "The Tribe". Can someone give me more info on this? Any response would be greatly appreciated. There is an original 1990 Gun Fury painted cover by Dave Cooper coming up for auction on ComicLink. Any news on a reboot of Gun Fury? And what's Dave Cooper up to these days? Is he still doing comics?

I'm leaning strongly towards driving down to CGC and personally delivering my comics instead of using the mail service!

Wow! I have no idea how to make a call on that. This will be the first time I've sent comics off for pressing and grading. They're the experts and I assumed they would forego pressing if there's a chance of staple pop. Are you looking at my comic in the initial post or are you looking at the different copy someone else posted above? And what are the best steps to take on my part to prevent/minimize staple popping?

Hope I'm not bothering you guys, but I've got another question. This comic is part of the first batch I've ever sent off for grading, I notice that pressing and cleaning are part of the same option/service. Is pencil mark removal a part of cleaning? If it is, how do I request that they leave the pencil marks alone? Thanks!

Will do! As far as grading goes, I'm not getting my hopes up. I'm gonna assume restoration. But I only paid around $20 bucks for it, and it will be nice to get it in the hands of someone who will appreciate it. Actually......I'm lying. I hope it's not restored.

Wow! Looks like Overstreet was way off on this one! I wish I had picked up a copy back in the day when I was still collecting. I''ve got a low-grade Feature Book #20. I was in another forum trying to get an idea of it's value as I thought it was also underrated. I'm gonna go ahead and slab it and take a chance at auction. It may have restoration, can't really tell, but I figure what the heck, I think I paid around 20 bucks for it back in the '80s.

BTW- I've decided to slab this book and take a chance at auction. Another member informed me that the Ace Comics #11 at Comic Link has already shattered a record for it's grade, and there's still 10 days left to bid. I know my Feature Book #20 is a low-grade, but I'm hoping the Overstreet Advisors may have also "mis-advised" it's value! Thanks again for your help!

Hey. Does anyone know when The Phantom made his first appearance on the cover of a comic book? I know that he first appeared in newspaper comic strips in 1936 and that his first comic book appearance was in Ace Comics #11 in 1938. And Feature Books #20 is listed as The Phantom #1. I can't seem to find a reference as to his first appearance on the cover of a comic book. I searched in Overstreet and through google.

MCS calls it the "first official Phantom comic book", which I'm assuming is the same thing as Overstreet designating it as Phantom #1 . Overstreet also states that The Phantoms first comic book appearance is in Ace Comics #11. I know that Overstreet almost always mentions the "first cover appearance" of almost all major (and many minor) characters. I don't see it mentioned in either one of these series (Ace Comics or Feature Books), and I can't seem to find the "first comic book cover" reference of the Phantom anywhere else, either in Overstreet or through googling. I'm pretty sure I found the correct pictures of the Ace Comics series. All I see are Katzenjammer Kids, no Phantom. I'm selling this book, and it would be nice to know if Overstreet has overlooked giving it The Phantom's "first cover appearance". Other members on these forums have been kind enough to notify me of other other Overstreet discrepancies. If it is his first cover, I'm gonna go ahead and take the chance of slabbing it and selling it at auction, restored or not. If it's not his first appearance, I'll probably sell it on the CGC for sale forum. Either way, I'm not gonna put it up for sale till I find out when Phantom first appeared on a comic book cover. I'm on a mission from God!
