Geoff2099 replied to comicjoe1234's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
At that level of book, you really need to take it out of the bag and scan/photo it well. -

PGM Tales To Astonish 63 1st App Leader
Geoff2099 replied to Lpgk's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
7.0. But I think #63 is the first full appearance of the Leader; #62 seems to be the accepted 'first appearance' (though I may be a little biased because I have that issue). -
Please help me judge the condition of the comic

PGM Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends #1
Geoff2099 replied to BankItDrew's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
P&c to a 6.5. I think a good press might help a little with the back, at least presentation wise. -
6.0 to 6.5

Grade is in: Fantastic Four Annual 6
Geoff2099 replied to scburdet's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
I was at a 6.0 until I saw that piece missing (tape pull?) from the back cover. 5.0. Don't feel bad, I have a copy of that book that is pretty good except for staining which CGC will hammer the hell out of. ;( -
PGM Marvel Super Heroes 13

I'm a bit higher at a 6.0 -
PGM my Xmen 134 (Reader copy edition!)
Geoff2099 replied to Geoff2099's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
That is some good eye sir. I don't know if that's a stain next to the phoenix nose, perhaps a tape pull that lifted off some colour, but I definitely missed it when I looked at it (note, it was bought as a reader copy and paid that amount, I was just happy to get it to read for the first time since I read my brother's copy in 1983.) I'm holding the book and under really bright light, and I think based on the imprint, I think it looks like pencil marks (like if a piece of paper was written on it on top of the book). But there is a chance it's a stain. more of back cover (and inside back cover): just a cool final panel: side note: OJ had ads for two separate shoe companies in this issue, one on front inside cover and one on inside back cover. I forget how big a deal he was in the 1980s. -
PGM my Xmen 134 (Reader copy edition!)

I really just wanted to read this book. It's hard to find it at a price that I can justify buying low grade x-men, but at a convention this weekend I did (by bundling it with a high end 142). Lots of issues, crease down bottom right corner is biggest issue of front cover, but ticks, bends, and scratches to be found, especially down front spine and edge of front cover. Is at least structurally intact, no pieces missing or major tears or stains. So this isn't about actually submitting to CGC but a test of my grading skills. Sidenote: Re: Backcover - think the Star Wars people noticed the scroll text rip off (!) -
An otherwise pretty smart looking copy, this book suffers from what I think is sun fade at the top and especially the backcover, in a very straight line. There is a small tear at the top above the L in "Marvel Comics Group" a few ticks and little bent corner, but the sun fade is what hurts this book the most. it's a shame it's an otherwise well cared for book imho.
