  1. Nice book.. I'm a novice grader, go with the group's opinion but I'll go out on a limb and <comic book guy voice> I deem this.. a 6.0
  2. I'm going to say 3.5... somebody stomped on that book ;)
  3. I'm a novice grader, go with the group. That said.. c&p to an 8.5
  4. 3.0, maybe 2.5 if grader is having a bad day.
  5. I have a harder time grading books in the 4.0 - 7.0 range so that's one of the reason's I'm posting here. The other is the new she-hulk show seems to have awoken interest in a long dormant character that I bought from a dollar bin like two weeks ago (timing is everything). Wear, plenty of creasing, some dents that might press out, spine ticks. Note there is some colour loss between the N and the T in "Human Torch" (maybe an eraser mark?). Some soiling back cover.
  6. this is why I only buy graded grails. I see a little bit of a funny green to the right of the hulk's abs but that's about it and probably not even what you're talking about.
  7. Yeah I kind of think so too. In doing the math it seems unlikely I'd even break even. What I might do is just hold onto it and then if Jim lee comes to Toronto again I'll get it signed there as I have to hope (?) it's cheaper. Maybe I'll just sell it as is, that's probably best.
  8. I'm at 3.5 on a good day. Crazy cool book to see, thanks for sharing. even the back cover is funny and so of the time.
  9. I'm going to go out on a limb here, I'm still a novice grader, please go with the group. C&P to a 5.5
  10. So a bit of a story on this one. Let's go back to 1992. I'm 15, comic stores are doing just amazing business all over Canada, people are buying up multiple versions of the same book (sound familiar)... and this store I went to rarely - not my usual store - has a raffle to win a gold variant edition for every comic you buy. I literally buy one comic, fill out my ticket, and then find out I won. I was really happy, though I wasn't really an Image guy - this might be the only Image comic I actually own (I know there are its fans, no disrespect intended), but winning is cool. Then I get the book, and blerg - big dent/crease on the front cover, and it to runs through the book - I'm not sure you can see it on the scan but there's a smaller dent on the back. And then to add insult to injury, there's a small tear on second last page. The back cover aside from the crease in the bottom right (about an inch) is actually clean, it doesn't scan well. Even at 15 I was pretty pissed but I'd won a free book, I can't really complain about it - but it did confirm my decision to not do much shopping there. What I should have done is immediately turned around and sold it, but c'est la vie. I'm really not even sure an embossed book like this can be pressed open to suggestions on that too. But thanks to another poster (AceHoward) on this board who also has this book, I see there's a jim lee signing and that might be my way to make a profit on this book (even though it was free!) Trading cards are intact. But then again, it might not be worth it. above - see dent on bottom left example of dent midway through page
  11. Please grade my xmen 133. Front cover - I see a number of small ticks, but a large one by nightcrawler's head. Biggest issue i think is some kind of mark above the P in "group" - appears to be a dent/scratch of some kind. Backcover has a few tick marks down the side and a just barely blunted top left corner, but i think will benefit from a C&P.
  12. Pretty fun find at a recent comic convention - x-men 141 newstand edition. Front cover has many spine ticks, and a gnarly little fold in the bottom right but overall for newstand 1980, not too shabby. Backcover is pretty dirty but I think it'll clean up nicely, a bend in top right corner, and spine ticks down the side. But my big question - what's the impact from the *store* stamp. I knew that date stamps don't negatively impact grade much, but I'm really not sure about store stamps. On the plus side it's a neat stamp, on the back cover, in the bottom. But I don't think store stamps are looked kindly by CGC.But I have a feeling that store stamp is gonna crush it, hoping I'm wrong.
  13. I am shocked that you got a 9.8. I thought that bottom right front cover tear would be an issue. Guess they considered it bindery.
  14. I agree with Februus above, I'd get both graded, unless you are deep into them already. I feel it's a lot easier to sell a $1K+ book that's graded than raw.
  15. I think CGC hits stains really hard. 6.5.
  16. 7.0/7.5 was my number as well (wasn't sure on the colour rub). thanks everyone!
  17. 2.5 -- SO very cool to see this book unslabbed. Is there a story behind how you got it? I would definitely get a professional's opinion on if pressing and cleaning would do well, and I don't know if I'd trust whoever does the pressing at CGC to do it anyway.
  18. So it not be rat chew but it's something that 'carved' through the back of the book in concentric "circles" getting smaller and smaller on each page for about the last 6 pages of the book plus cover. Could it be machine made? It looks too imperfect for that. It's very strange to me (and the reason I bought it, ironically).
  19. So I'm going to guess that a rat chew especially one that goes through multiple pages like my example would immediately max a book out at 4.5/5.0, very helpful advice from the crew here. Mine is from the back not the front, but I think theoretically it shouldn't matter. I don't typically come across this in the books I look at (usually higher grade to begin with), this was an impulse buy (disclosed by the store owner and priced accordingly) and bought as a grading lesson (plus a fun read) along with some other books I bought for grading education. Thanks y'all!
  20. That is a *great* point about the tanning, I figured the chew would probably decimate the grade anyway so was mostly focused on that. I don't think this or the other books I posted tonight are high grade or worth much, this is more about my learning about grading defects beyond the standard ticks, tears bends and creases. hypothetically, if this book was a 9.8 otherwise, what would the chew do to the grade?
