  1. I'm a smidge lower at a 9.0 after a press.
  2. I think the official line is that it doesn't matter. However to collectors it really does for the reasons above.
  3. Agree with above, corners hurt. 8.0, maybe 8.5 with a press. Also a hint maybe of colour rub/loss on bottom left.
  4. I wouldn't submit and regrade either. If you really want a higher grade version, see if someone will downgrade their 4.0 or the like (plus cash).
  5. As I was scrolling I was also thinking a 4.0. Press might not help grade much but will improve presentation in my opinion.
  6. Stains, unfortunately crush grades. I'll go 7.5 but I'm a sucker for a date stamp.
  7. Definitely press it, but with the press... 7.5. Just a lot of little ticks and marks. Man I love that cover.
  8. Hello! Sure, see below. It's hard to see, but there's a horizontal crease about 1.5 inches long that starts about 2/3 of the way down the left side , roughly lining up with Beta's elbow. It's not a really obvious crease (and I missed it when I submitted it) but it is there.

  10. Did you suspect trimming? (Detecting trimming is beyond me, and colour touch isn't something I'd bet the farm on my abilities to detect either).
  11. You know grading from scans (vs book in hand) and estimating a 9.0 - 9.2 and it coming in one grade below at 8.5 is pretty damn good imho.
  12. yes etanick does, hope he comes back some day - sorry didn't meant to imply it was my cheat sheet, just i use it
  13. Yeah, I think we've all seen books graded and be like "da fuh?". But I will say that after spending a lot of time on this forum, and looking at this cheat sheet and watching a ton of videos, I'd say I've submitted about 50 books to cgc this year, and in most cases, I was either on point, or up one or down one, with the exception of an 8.0 that I thought was at least a 9.6. I suggest that if you haven't, you write down your grade estimates, and then see what happens. I had a book come back a 1.0 that i thought was a 3.0, but I missed a spine split so that was correct and I was wrong.
  14. Overall, a pretty sharp looking raw copy but with some not good defects. Top right FC there's some spinewear, and a number of ticks down the spine. BC shows some bends at the top as well, and a little bit of dirt. The BC does show a little line above Kirk's head, that's actually just a piece of hair that the scanner picked up that I blew off. Bigger issues are I think some foxing or at least discoloration on the interior cover (which seems odd to me) of both front and back, and of course the staple rust/rust migration. Cover is on tight. I normally stay away from rusty staples but this was priced to move, plus a huge Star Trek fan. Also was at a smaller show and I like to see dealers get some hundreds in their pockets instead of just twenties at those kind of shows. Top staple I think is the biggest problem child.
  15. Well if it's just the ticks, and not creases, a 9.2 is not crazy (maybe should have been a 9.0). I wouldn't say there's no quality control at CGC, but there's definitely subjectivity in grading. But I also think we (collectors) are part of that problem. When we submit a grade, we want our 9.6 to be pushed into a 9.8. But when we buy a 9.8, we really want a 9.9 that was pushed down into a 9.8. We're flawed creatures.
  16. 4.0 with a c and p .. as others have said, I'd want to see work by the person first. This ain't no everyday book.
  17. It can be quite disheartening. Between the mylar, the sleeve and the slab, any single imperfection that might reduce a 9.8 to a 9.6 will be hidden. It does look like there's a hint of colour rub on the front cover, near spiderman's head but that might just be the photo. In general I always think: every buyer of slabs wants a harshly graded 9.8, and every person who submits a book for grading wants a 9.6 pushed into a 9.8.
  18. 9.4 maybe higher. Also that's the Canadian price variant direct edition.
  19. Just made a great sale to Cbass - first sale I've ever made on the CGC boards! Bought a TMNT Archie Adventures Comics #4 CPV 9.8 from me - easy sale, easy communication.
