I think the easiest and most likely explanation is it was designed to have the dot in the wrong place as the house add shows and at some point during printing the dot broke off the plate and was not replaced. The dot was clearly meant to be in the spot it was in as proof by the house add.

I’m happy with the stigma for my personal collection. Would much rather have a nicely presenting restored book than a ratty looking blue label and the restored book still goes for far, far less. Even though the restored book started out as a much nicer book to begin with almost all of the time.

Show me an auction house that starts getting into owning the inventory and I'll show you an auction house that's going to be going out of business.
Doesn’t Goldin do this on some of there big items?

I’d personally rather the trimmed page than the brittle page but it is close..

That is a good looking 5.5 and well done restoration without rusty staples. Guess it depends how much you want to spend but a far superior book imho.

C restoration so hard to guess. C can be pretty poor work but I’d guess $50kish? There’s a 15% added charge also at the end for that one. So maybe the bidder doesn’t see it and it goes for more?

If I had to guess, I would say the scammer sold a collection to the OP and threw in the cover to get rid of evidence.
I don't believe the OP was the scammer or intentionally misleading anyway.
For what it's worth, I reached out to the OP about possibly buying the cover. He didn't jump at my offer, nor did he seem overly anxious to sell. I tried to give fair and honest advice about it's value and what he should consider doing with it. If he was the scammer, I feel like he would have pushed to close a deal with me.
It's an unfortunate ending to what was a very exciting story and I feel bad for the OP...
Dang. Then even though he didn’t pay market price it really still stinks for the OP. That’s a find of a lifetime for someone so it’s still as if he got scammed as he thought he found it.

I think he’s saying the poster is likely the scammer and this guy is really good. Fishing to get suckers to offer him $$ in PMs. Dangerous time to be collecting comics with whoever this scammer is on the loose.

What did the other bat 1 pages go for?

Yes, it’s impossible to know. I’m not sure the collecting world out there is even aware of the difference. Heck I didn’t know it myself when I bought the book. When it got talked about here on the Boards, I called @Filter81 and asked about it. He said in his experience, the “dot”issues outnumbered the “no dot” issues 10 to 1.
But as I also recall, the Clink 3.0 had some eye appeal issues.
Glad my slight restored is a no dot version then 😃

I think the guy wants 3mill.
I think he’s talking about the extensive restored that just sold for almost $300k on clink, but what’s an extra zero between friends.

I’ll take two. I mean, if I buy it, can’t I send it back to them to turn it into two full 9.6 books?

🚀 Batman 1 in all parts, pieces, incomplete and complete copies has officially blasted off.

That book was on eBay for a while. Surprised it wasn’t higher.

Has anyone noticed what Bat 1 pages have been going for on the Bay? Prices have gotten bid up thousands of dollars. Seriously, like in the last 2 months pages have tripled.
still, book prices on complete Bat 1s have also soared, so I still don’t think there’s any financial payoff that would tempt sellers to break up books (thank goodness!)
I’m not one to destroy books but I’m certain if I broke mine up I would get more than selling it complete. At $3500 average a page that’s $119k and the splash pages would likely sell for more, first page is also signed by Bob Kane. I would still have the front and back cover to sell as well. No chance I could get 6 figures for the book as it sits.

Of course. The rust gets worse thus the contrast to the paper makes the pages seem more white. We should all strive to collect rusty staple books and just hold onto them until it’s time to regrade for an upgrade in page quality.
