    HI, all:

In my initial post, I stated that I sent Heritage another package a week after the first one, and after going through the same hassles with USPS, I have received confirmation that the second package has also been stolen by a USPS employee.  A police report has been filed.

Please spread the word on these covers/pages and DM me should you come across any.  Thanks again to everyone for your support, suggestions, and well-wishes.

I suspect the seller of this piece is mournful.

    May 2018 ~%6K                                       June 2023 ~$4.5K

Of course, that neglects the 20% off the bid of $3800 for another $760 down the hole.

    Total loss: $2935 ($5975 - (3800 (winning bid) - 760 (Seller's payment to HA))

    Ouch. That's a loss of basically 50%.

OTOH, the much more interesting Sprang recreation did well: $7800 with BP.

Sprang recreation covers have been going for around $5K for a while, Batman #66 s one of the weaker covers, Batman #149 has better images of all three characters so I expected it to  go on the high side. See alot of Sprang recreations in HA, seems like at least one per Signature auction.

Any thoughts on the Faust page in the cemetery? I was hoping to snag it for under $3.5k but went for $5.5k w the juice. Great images and a 1/3 splash but I always liked art from the first 4-5 issues, but they don’t turn up that often.

That did go higher than I expected. Don't understand why they list Jeff Austin ink assists but not on the other Faust #5 page. Thought Tim Tyler was the one who assisted on Faust

Not all Lee is created equal. The peak Lee is Lee/Williams on X-men.
The 248 page that sold yesterday was Lee/Green. The 248 cover is Lee/Green and is lacking what people are looking for in a Lee X-men premiere go to the mattresses at auction piece (Hint: "Snikt"). Also the $360,000 page is from an arc everyone who collects or read this stuff remembers: Xtinction Agenda.  I like Colossus a lot, and Havok is ok, but it's not this :

This page is several times more desirable to Lee X-men collectors than that Lee/Green cover, for all the reasons people collect comic art, the characters, composition, and credits matter.

This is a page people fight to the death over, and they did looking at that auction result. If you want a cover that's a comp to this page I'd look at 268 and not 248.
The 268 cover sold 2 years before the 271 page above for $300,000 and would likely be dramatically more today. That cover and this page are leagues ahead of another Lee cover that didn't have Williams inks or Wolverine, Psylocke or Jubilee, etc on it.

I always preferred Green over Lee, old school inks compared to Williams and the Image style.

  5. $25K hammer - Spy vs Spy from Mad #60

Mad #60 was the first issue Spy vs Spy appeared in. Two were in the issue, one complete one (made up of a 6 panel gag and a single top panel) went for $11K in 2006. One in this auction was only the bottom 6 panel gag, top single panel was not included.

Me too....was just thinking about that. lol

I was sad when they stopped including a DVD with auction scans. I did finally contact all the auction houses and requested them to stop sending printed catalogs. I never read them, they just go into recycling. website are so easier to use for checking out what is in the auctions.

Not irrelevant - it's important for people to at least voice it so there isn't some silent majority out there quietly accepting the monoprint concept as being held in a similar regard as original art. I am not a fan, either - and I've rambled on about it in a previous post because I have experience in trying to figure out how to market digital artwork in a way that creates the illusion of value.

Monoprints and color guides should not be in the same pool as original art, as they are technically "production" pieces, created from the art (digital or otherwise) and are a tangible representation of the original - but still, not the original.

The artists using digital are making the effort to market around the shortcomings of their medium with monoprints, but the exorbitant pricing is really coming off poorly in my opinion. (Paraphrasing here) Charging $1500+ for a print, then a while later coming back and doing another one - but in color - seems to violate the original idea of the first print, and depending on who you ask: might seem unethical.

When they do that its just a scam, and the smuck who paid $1500 realizes he has been conned.

The one suggestion I would have for Bill is to make it possible to see more than just the 18 or 24 or however many listings per page there were on CAF Live (you can see up to 54 pieces on one page on the regular CAF site), as it was exhausting clicking through the 169 pages of listings for the Saturday drop. On Sunday, I resorted to just searching by art type so all the commissions were excluded, which helped cut down on the search time, but, it would be great to have less pages to click through next time around. :wishluck:

I would like to get rid of the pieces with zero value in searches. That should be an easy thing for Bill to filter.
