That is correct.  From my understanding Superman first appears in an advertisement in More Fun Comics #31.  It's not his first "in continuity" appearance.  It's not his first "full" appearance.  It's not his most valuable appearance.  It's not his most sought after appearance.  But it is his first appearance in comics.

Rogue was first planned to appear in Ms.Marvel 25 which was already finished but not released in 1979 because the series got cancelled at issue 23. Avengers Annual 10 which features Rogue came out in 1981 which continued a storyline that was supposed to begin in Ms Marvel 25. The already finished Ms.Marvel 24 and 25 were then for the first time printed in Marvel Super-Heroes Vol 2 11 released in 1992.

What's her first appearance, the unreleased comic in 1979, the comic that continued the unreleased comic's story in 1981, or the comic that printed the unreleased comic in 1992?

edit: sorry I didn't actually mean to quote thunsicker there, what I said has nothing to do with his post there

This is incorrect.  In an infinite universe, everything possible will eventually happen, but even in an infinite universe, you can't draw a circle with corners or produce a married bachelor.  Just having a lot of time and space doesn't make the impossible possible.

If given infinite time you could keep drawing squares in succession tilting the angle infinitesimally and you will eventually draw a circle by the process of creating a shape that has an infinite amount of corners

wait this isn't the numberphile forums, my bad

I ordered the TASCHEN Spider-Man (limited edition) and awoke this morning to discover it was out for delivery. Wasn't supposed to arrive until Monday. Later in the morning, I see the package marked as 'arrived'. I walk out and see an oversized box (about the size of an ironing box). I look around, but no box. I ring FedEx and ask if they can find out where the driver dropped it off. During our conversation, I walked back and look at the oversized box. I see my name on it, and it's the same tracking number. Wow, I think to myself, did they really need that much packaging? Or, does the book come with something else. I keep FedEx on the phone as I begin to unpackaged the box. Inside, a really cheap bookshelf. I flip the box over and see another label with a different name and delivery address. I look at the label with my name and it is clear, someone placed it on the box after it shipped. It a piece of paper inside a sealed clear transparent envelope that has adhesive on the back. Next to it, I see another sticker that says "relabeled".

In short, someone took the label from my box (probably fell off), stuck on another box which already had a label on it, and added a "relabeled" sticker on it. The box I received is now approximately 3,000 miles from where it supposed to be. Where is my box? Who knows. I'm guessing Los Angeles because that's where these boxes crossed paths. And...now there's a box with a kick- book floating within FedEx without a label. TASCHEN quickly agreed to provide me with another book.

What is the probability FedEx will find the book?

PS - Anyone need a really cheap bookshelf? It's free.

:takeit: I like bookshelves if you're really just giving it away

That's one hell of a story lol, I think what happens with boxes like those which can't get delivered is that they open the box and record and store the contents somewhere so if someone calls they can check to see if they have their missing items.

  4. Hello,

I was planning on submitting a book to the Mirka Andolfo private signing https://www.cgccomics.com/news/article/9952/Mirka-Andolfo-Signing/ for a sketch

My question is, since we are sending in a blank cover for a sketch does it still need to be sent in a window bag? I feel like the artist would just take the book out of the bag anyway to get as much room to draw anyway. Or will sending the blank cover in a normal bag still cause them to be rejected or delayed?

Edit: Also my blank cover has one of those sheets that cover the front attached to it, does it matter if I send it in with this sheet attached?

    Something like this:

    Thank you

Yes, Batman: The Dark Knight is an iconic series that has some awareness outside of comic collectors. Yes, the first issue of Batman: The Dark Knight has a classic cover and is the overly-emphasized first issue. Yes, there is demand (though hardly as universal as you're claiming) for Batman: The Dark Knight and that's unlikely to change in the near future. What I'm missing here is what any of that has to do with copies being turned into a niche item by signatures. I'm also definitely missing how $1800 USD is a steal or an investment.

I find it harder to believe that you think that I own stuff like that. Most people have little to no interest in buying items with signatures, especially at premium prices.

Just to comment on the last line, I'm not necessarily saying its wrong but its just my general gut feeling is that theres a lot more interest in signed comics than "most people have little to no interest". I went to try and find some sort of measurable way to look at this, so I decided to try searching "cgc comic universal" and "cgc comic signed" sold listing amount and there were 10x more results for signed sold listings. Not trying to pass this off as hard proof of anything since I'm sure not all cgc blue label listings are listed as universal (like if I decided to search cgc yellow label I only get about 30 results), but I think saying most people have no interest in buying signed comics is a stretch.  edit: and to be more fair, since I searched universal, to be a fair comparison I should have searched 'cgc comic signature' for signed books which only gets 1300+ results, which is still more than universal but not to such a drastic degree

edit2: actually to be even more fair, I forgot about the existence of raw books for a second which I think would skew things completely in the other direction. Don't know how I overlooked that, I might be mentally compromised while writing this sorry lol

  6. I would take the time to enjoy some of the gems that can be found here.

I just recently discovered such a gem, and I enjoyed the read very much.  A reply by BlowUpTheMoon on the first page has a link to a thread that gives more background, I just linked this one instead because its where I started on the Amphoman Journey..   edit: ok just to be clear, his books are trash, the posts on these threads are comedy gold.

  7. Whenever you get a group of people with strong emotions and a hint of social awkwardness together on the internet you'll often get toxicity or at least the appearance of it every so often.

Some use the pretext of an "intelligent and mature discussion" to hide or justify their toxicity, and some are so used to seeing toxicity that they'll see it where there was none.

Either way just do your best to not let it get to you and move on, theres often very little you can do about it

The paper trick doesn't work on the current slab design.

It does work, I've done it cutting up a strip of a backing board to stick inside, although more often than not it ends up scuffing the inner surface of the slab and leaving scuff marks. Would probably work better with a different material

edit: Just to give a few more details, while on the newer slabs I don't think you can stick a strip through the sides as easily, on every newer slab I have I can still pry open the bottom of the slab enough to stick something in

Sigh. I was really happy to have intervened anonymously, but since you seem willing to stoke that into a conspiracy...

I'm the board member who helped out here. I work for UPS Operational Excellence. I can't take credit for finding the package because I don't work in Operations and because that had actually already happened before I got involved. On the other hand, I did work out what was going on from the raw data involved, determine where bad information had been provided (and we're not blameless there, customer service gave some really, really bad information at times), and tried to ensure that nothing else went wrong. Unless something changes, it should deliver some time this evening. Hopefully without any further complications or damages. We'll see. Regardless, my workgroup makes proposals for process improvements; we'll definitely be taking a closer look at this whole sequence of events after the fact.

What I can't do -- and why I was content to be an anonymous benefactor here -- is help everyone who has a problem. I just can't. This isn't the part of the company that I primarily work with, and I just do not have the time to intervene whenever someone here has a late or lost delivery (so please don't everyone DM me like I can). But I'm also not going to let the fact that I looked into this case to somehow snowball into suspicions against the person who deserves the most empathy here.

Sorry, I didn't mean for it come across as conspiratorial.

What I suspected was that enough time had just passed for UPS to find the missing package (which I guess this part was true) and put it back on route to delivery, but some board member coincidentally had reached out with some advice to the author at around the same time and that he was somehow attributing the package being found to that advice.

I'm glad everything is getting resolved

Hope I don't see your slabs in the "Where was the Quality Control at CGC" thread

edit: Also (and I don't mean for this to come off as rude), I don't think you need to worry about people DMing you to find their lost packages. As you said, you didn't actually locate them, it sounds like everything would have resolved on it's own without any intervention

every shipping courier has their odd stuff that happens. In my opinion what sets all of these guys apart is how willing they are to actually help their customers out. I got lucky with the three folks who helped me out plus the others whos stuff was missing from cgc in that container.

What did this board member do that helped UPS and/or the CGC Manager (I'm guessing UPS since you say it now scans as out for delivery, meaning the UPS rep that told you that CGC still has the package was wrong) find the missing packages?

I find it odd and almost concerning that you; the recipient, after numerous calls to both parties couldn't get a resolution, but some random 4th party board member was able to resolve it

    Usually the latter.

Are the signings a group signing where they all sign the same book? That might be different hm

It's this one https://www.cgccomics.com/news/article/9975/    All signing different books, separate invoices

Anyone had any luck calling CGC and getting them to combine the return shipping on orders? I've read on some other posts that people would note down to ship all the books back together on each of the invoices when they would send in books, but never revealed whether that actually worked out or not
