  1. True dat. But it was the exact same copy, so that eliminates one possible explanation
  2. I don’t want to turn this thread into a “Have Prices Eased Up” thread, but thought this might be worth a comment: If there’s ever a Schomburg book I thought would be impervious to the current financial headwinds, it would have to be Cap 46. But the Clink auction tonight proved me wrong. A 2.5 sold for $13k six months ago, but only hammered for $8600 tonight. Now is definitely the time to jump in on Schomburg!
  3. One of the odd things about collecting single pages is that they are all graded NGs, whether the page is ratty or pristine. And the people who collect them want pristine so they can display them. This anomaly renders GPA values meaningless because it’s impossible to know if the reported sale was for a good copy or bad.
  4. It occurs to me that Matt Baker had a pretty good insight into the foibles of courtship rituals. Sometimes he focuses on the negatives of women, such as the backbiting in the above scene or the below pic. Sometimes he focuses on the boorishness of men. Sometimes he shows a love for both men and women, like in the bottom pic
  5. It took me a while to figure it out, but this MMC ad must have come out right after the MMC 9 Subby HT battle. HT is doing a post-mortem with the police commissioner about the battle and hoping Subby has learned his place. Dialog unintentionally hilarious
  6. IMO, no way that book brings even close to the same $240k it hammered for originally. I actually hope I’m wrong, and would be delighted if I’m wrong
  7. This is not a romance book, but I got a kick out of Milton Caniff’s take on romance. The Dragon Lady is no match for Terry
  8. You don’t find heroic a guy whose crime fighting career was limited to trying not to be killed by a random cat or dog?
  9. I love the cover to Showcase 22, but Kane sounds like a bit of a prima donna. Nodell created a classic cover in Cap 74, for which I’m grateful
  10. That’s a stout price for a 3.5. I haven’t seen too many of them come to market in the last year
  11. I thought we learned from the Promise books the ones on the spine side would be ruled to be bindery tears/chips and not counted off
