  1. Someone bought the San Francisco copy of MMC 47 9.2 for $20k in 2019, somehow improved it to a 9.4 and sold it again this week in CCs auction for . . . wait for it . . . $20k. D’oh
  2. Great books. But you should just give me the 33 because I’m a good guy
  3. Yes Mark. Your Cap 37. Want it back? KIDDING YOU CANT HAVE IT. Yes, I got another, but it’s lower grade than yours. Thanks again
  4. Yes, Filter81 sourced me the Cap 1 (as well as a Bat 1. ) My books have come from you, Gator or Filter81, mostly
  5. I forgot about that one. I think I was 2 or 3 guys downstream from you. I was talking about the Cap 36.
  6. Why, whatever could you mean? Hmm. What name could we come up with that sounds more dramatic than “water”? By George, I think I’ve got it!
  7. Cat you’re right about schomburg putting a villain at the bottom of most covers staring out at the reader with a look of terror and dismay. It’s actually one of the things I like least about schomburg (and I’m a huge fan of his) because they are so cartoony. I go out of my way to collect Schomburgs covers without that, the only exceptions being these . . .
  8. I did not know Daring 1 was the 1st Schomburg cover! And it looks like I’m the only one that didn’t - I need to get out more, I guess. To me, that is as significant as Stan Lees 1st work for Timely in Cap 3. Guess there’s another book added to my want list
  9. Thanks, Pink, but I know my paltry gathering doesn’t hold a candle to yours. Actually, one of these books came from you, years ago. Remember which?
  10. Prices being down the way they are, I’ve been able to pick up some more pages without breaking the bank. Another copy of Jokers first story appearance, and I’m especially happy with the last page of FF1. Such high adventure contained in a single page!
  11. I wish there were some consistency in the way CGC formulates their reader notes. I see a spot of discoloration on the paper near the spine, but no rust on the staple. But inexplicably, cgc only occasionally makes a note of rust, even in books with worse problems. This always leaves me to wonder if the rust developed after grading, and I have no way of knowing if the rust was taken into consideration when calculating the grade. Obviously it was taken into consideration here, but other times I am left to wonder
  12. A year ago, a 2.5 went for $100k more. Still, a great book to have. Also, the coverless copy missing the first wrap and a centerfold went for $18k
  13. I am, and I’m truly surprised. It hammered at Heritage for the insane amount of $132k, and I was no way it’ll get anywhere near that this go around. But it’s at $92k now and there will be a flurry in the extended bidding, so it’s a head scratcher.
  14. My increasing inability to refrain from telling my beloved clients to f$ck right off tells me it might be time to retire, so I will be at the end of this year. So yeah, the comics may go
  15. These have long ago rocketed past my comfort level, but no harm in dreaming big
  16. I’m still having a hard time processing that he, or any boardie for that matter, can so casually turn away. Apparently for some, it’s like flipping a light switch. I once asked Vincent at CC how Jon Berk was dealing with his own divorce from the hobby, and to my surprise was told he doesn’t miss it. I don’t think I’ll be so lucky. they say amputees still feel tingling in a missing appendage years later, and that’s how I think it will be for me
  17. Yes, I too searched the Heritage archives unsuccessfully and decided CC must have carried the earlier sale. Well the upcoming CC and Heritage auctions have some Schomburgs that should provide us with further insight. Until then, this is the book in my collection that is stuck in my head at the moment . . .
  18. True dat. But it was the exact same copy, so that eliminates one possible explanation
  19. I don’t want to turn this thread into a “Have Prices Eased Up” thread, but thought this might be worth a comment: If there’s ever a Schomburg book I thought would be impervious to the current financial headwinds, it would have to be Cap 46. But the Clink auction tonight proved me wrong. A 2.5 sold for $13k six months ago, but only hammered for $8600 tonight. Now is definitely the time to jump in on Schomburg!
