  1. WooWoo thanks for doing all this. I’m away from the house today, but I would go look in Overstreet Guide at early Actions. My guess is this house ad was in one of them, and that Overstreet notated it. am I close?
  2. does anyone have an image of the advertising for the upcoming Batman 1 that they would be willing to post? I don’t know what books would have them, but bluechip has talked about the early Tecs having them. Does anyone know?
  3. Ok forgive my ignorance, but if I’m understanding you correctly, these early images of the upcoming issue are called “house ads”? And in the case of Bat 1, the advance advertising (house ads) on other books showed the Batman 1 cover with a colored dot/period. i guess if Timely can drop Stalin, it’s easy for DC to drop or alter a period. thank you for your patience
  4. Are there any earlier comic books advertising the coming issue of Batman 1? Showing the cover?
  5. I bought my 2.5 off the boards here from Filter81, so I posited the question to him. Here is his response: “The . on the Bat 1, I'm not 100% sure I have all of this correct but I believe the answer is the difference was caused by the issue having multiple print runs. (Superman 1 had 3 print runs but I think the only differences are noticeable on the inside. Marvel 1 is the most famous for having two print runs with an Oct copy and Nov copy and is the only one I can think of where the different print runs make a substantial difference in value) I'm not sure how many print runs Batman 1 had but my guess is one print run had no dot and the others did. I just went through scans of my old Bat 1s, and based on my limited sample size the copies with a dot outnumbered copies without one by about 10 to 1. Which makes me think that since the copies with no dot are rarer they are probably the actual first print run. The market doesn't pay very close attention on this (and may never) but if that ever changes you could see prices rise on the no dot copies faster than their counterparts. Not positive I have that all correct, but that is my best guess!“
  6. I bought them both raw off Ebay back in the wild days. I paid $3800 for the 31, and the guy literally threw the book in a box - no Mylar, no backing board, just crumpled newspaper. It was the first book I ever sent to CGC, and it came back as a blue label 4.5. The 33 I never slabbed, but guess it was a 4.0. Needed the money for something stupid so I let em go on eBay.
  7. My only other Batman is Tommy Thorson’s copy of Tec 35, which I picked up in CCs latest auction. (And NO, CC did NOT send me a bottle of wine at the end of the year). Something WooWoo said here on the Boards made me think he once owned it. I used to have a Tec 31 and 33 but sold them years ago. For a song, comparatively speaking to today
  8. I guess I only just noticed the Bat 1 now because I only just recently had a few extra dollars burning a hole in my wallet
  9. Yes I figured that was what you meant. So I ran to Gerbers and saw the same dot there. I never knew some Bat 1s had them and some didn’t. Is there a school of thought that this is the distinction between a first and second print?
  10. Now they’re just falling from the sky. This one is in the next Clink auction. I’ll be curious how the changing stock market, the trend toward state taxes, and the tape on the book affect the hammer price . . . Seeing as how I was the last person granted entry into this noble club, I hope I don’t find out my price for admission was too crazy out of line with the rest of the world.
  11. When all 50 states jump on the bandwagon (and that is WHEN, not IF), any privately sold book $100k or over will for sure be affected by this. And as these states become emboldened and get grabbier, some may decide a single $50k book is enough of a “substantial nexus” to justify a state tax. This will add pressure to a private seller of even a single book to report the transaction. And if they report it, they better have collected the tax. i don’t like the implications here, and how it may affect the health of our hobby
  12. Ok when I tried to read it last night there were champagne corks popping and stupidity everywhere. Now, the next morning, I can actually read what Zolnerowich said. The $100k limitation isn’t in there, so Gator you must have access to something more. Is this a federal tax thing? Anyway, if you have to sell over $100k in a single state before the taxes apply, that’s not going to directly affect too many of us. I think it’ll affect auction houses in a big way. They are going to have to find a way to pass it along to us, or they are in trouble. On the state tax front, from what I have read, there are currently only a handful of states that have adopted rules to collect state and local sales taxes on internet purchases made from out-of-state sellers who do not have a physical bricks-and-mortar presence in the buyer’s state. That will change, I predict. All 50 states will have their hands out soon enough.
  13. I just got an email today that my Tec 35 and Planet 58 winnings shipped today, but there was no mention of sales tax. Maybe because it shipped the last day of 2018? I’m not sure how I would have felt about having to fork over another $3k without forewarning oh, wait. I read it too quickly. No sales tax in Texas. Well I never much liked the fact that I’ve had to pay sales tax to Heritage all these years for no other reason than I happened to live in Texas. At least for the moment, I’m catching a break from my new best friend CC.
  14. Hi, Bat34. That was you? I actually feel like an “accidental” Tec 35 owner, because I was that sure it would go for more. But i'm very happy to have the book. Thanks for the congrats!
