Post your Promise Collection wins!
GreatCaesarsGhost replied to GreatCaesarsGhost's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
There’s a ton of Promise books coming up in the March 2023 Heritage auction. 90 listed so far, mostly DC. we have furiously pondered how they will fare in “the future”, but this seems like a particularly troublesome market in which to find out. -

Mask Comics actual pricing
GreatCaesarsGhost replied to Mijael.Levy's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
I bought this about a year ago and even then, the price had started to soften. The previous owner had only paid a couple thousand dollars less when he purchased it in 2019, which means a loss to him after the Heritage vig. Back at the time, there seemed to be a Mask 1 in every auction, as owners took advantage of the price run-up. Now that the full financial headwinds have hit, I haven’t seen this book at all. I think the holders of this book have collectively decided to wait it out. have I just been looking at the wrong times in the wrong places? Anyone else seem a Mask 1 on the market in the last 12 months? -
Seven Seas 4 or 6 Which Do You Prefer?
GreatCaesarsGhost replied to ThothAmon's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
I love the rainbow water flowing over the side of the ship, and the figure on that woman is definitely one of Matt Baker’s best. But when I look at 6, all I can think of is Carmen Miranda. Besides, what is with that guy’s bicep. Shouldn’t it be elsewhere? So for me it’s gotta be 4 -

THE AMAZING FANTASY #15 CLUB

It's a really nice 9.2, and the owner certainly can price it any way he likes, but he must have had an aggressive reserve -
Would You Rather Have (1) $30,000 Comic or (300) $100 Comics

I understand. Your motivating force must be large, leaving you so helpless in its grip that there’s no other way out -

Thanks. How about the 9.2 ASM 1 for $210k? That seems pretty strong to me (forgive me I know this is an AF 15 thread) -

I think whatever genre you collect, you gotta have a cornerstone book. 3 years ago I posted a similar thread, and then went on to reboot my collection. I sold my smaller books and replaced them with a single book - my cornerstone book. Now I occasionally add smaller books around it and have the collection and the direction that works best for me. The space saving is enormous- my dog, my wife, and my parole officer all like me better now -
GA experts, give me your thoughts on foxing...
GreatCaesarsGhost replied to Kripsys99's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Foxing is dead mold. I’m told it will not advance further, assuming proper storage conditions. I therefore have no fear of it unless it affects the eye appeal. Clean covers are important to me. I avoid foxing if it is an eyesore, much as I would dust shadows, tanning and staining. I’d rather not have it, but if it’s my only chance at a book I want, I’m not scared of it, personally.
