  1. Yes, you’re right. But I don’t think the price drops on Promise books are because the pedigree itself is unpopular. I think the Promise collection was the “perfect storm” of newbie cryptocurrency collectors along with a new pedigree just coming to market. What could possibly go wrong? The Cap 27 that just sold is a perfect example. Even though the copy in today’s auction had stronger eye appeal than the Promise book, it hammered at a much lower price. After all, the crypto guys have evaporated, and the “perfect storm” that was the Promise launch is now no more than a cautionary tale we tell our children
  2. Looks like a dust shadow on the upper right side of the cover got washed away
  3. I agree totally. First appearance of Pennywise and John Wayne Gacy. This cover is terrifying on every level. I love it!
  4. Excuse my ignorance, but Burrell has now left the hobby? And what about Chuck? Still in business?
  5. Ive tried very hard to like it but am disappointed. I really expected more out of Watterson. The book itself looks gorgeous, but that’s it for me. The artistic rendering of the characters look like cabbage patch dolls, and the narrative is underwhelming. It takes 5 minutes to read, literally. I respect Watterson trying for a cosmic fable, but it just didn’t work for me. he needs to get back to Calvin and Hobbes
  6. Yes, agreed, but the comic book collecting field, at least according to the guy who discovered the heist and authored the article, conducts itself with less honor than the rare book collecting field
  7. https://apple.news/Abjh6vtdeTzKlOijtF3zEmg a little more info here at the above link. This sordid caper doesn’t speak well of comic collectors. The following observation is from the book dealer who first discovered the theft: “There are people I’ve spent many hours on the phone with. There’s been a lot of comic-book theft in Portland lately – private collections, stores broken into – and part of the reason for that is dealers and collectors will buy stuff from sketchy people. Until they stop doing that, there’s a lot of incentive to steal comics. They are easy to fence.” I sure hope someone swings for this
  8. If I had a magic wand, I’d have CGC start grading covers and pages. They vary in quality just as much as the books themselves, and would benefit from a grade. But maybe CGC has opted not to out of concern that people will start cutting up books. anyway, here’s another example of a cover only, currently being offered o eBay
  9. Same thing with a page. Look at the difference in eye appeal between these 2 pages, yet CGC won’t help out with a grade. at least on yours you got the “cover proof” designation
  10. I came across this book in the current Heritage weekly, and stopped for a look more out of astonishment than anything else: Superman GGA? Wait, what?? then, upon closer inspection, I think this gets honorable mention in “dumbest covers ever”, which is exactly where I would have posted this if only I could find the thread. Superman’s vaudeville act is to let someone shoot him in the face!! Seriously?
  11. For you, Richard, Heritage is demanding a higher grade. They probably feel what with the Astros and all you could use the break
