  1. Thank you so much for your time! Best wishes!
  2. If I send in some books to be pre-screened, how are books handled if they don't meet the pre-screening requirement? For example, if I send in three books to be pre-screened for 9.8, what happens if two books meet the criteria and the other book does not? I know that I would have to pay a $9 rejection fee for the one book, but is the rejected book sent back immediately, which means more shipping charges? Or is just kept with the other two books, but just not graded?
  3. I'm not exactly a newbie, but here goes. If I send in some books to be pre-screened, how are books handled if they don't meet the pre-screening requirement? For example, if I send in three books to be pre-screened for 9.8, what happens if two books meet the criteria and the other book does not? 4. My runs include: Amazing Spider-Man #1 - #400, plus Amazing Fantasy #15 and Annuals #1 - #5. Fantastic Four #1 - #300, plus Annuals #1 - #6. Daredevil #1 - #200, plus Annuals #1 and #4. Atom #1 - #45, plus Showcase #34 - #36. Hawkman #1 - #27 (minus #25), plus Brave and the Bold #34 - #36 and #42 - #44. Metal Men #1 - #56, plus Showcase #37 - #40. These probably really don't count as runs, but I also have these: Avengers #1 - #16. Incredible Hulk #1 - #6. Journey into Mystery #83 - #92, plus a few additional issues. Sgt. Fury #1 - #10. Strange Tales #101 - #110, plus a few additional issues. Tales of Suspense #39 - #49, plus a few additional issues. Tales to Astonish #27, #35 - #44, plus a few additional issues. X-Men #1 - #16. Brave and the Bold #2 - #24. Flash - All the first appearances of the SA villains, along with SA Trickster covers, plus Showcase #4, #8, #13, and #14. I am currently working on obtaining slabbed copies of Justice League of America #1 - #14, to go along with my Brave and the Bold #28 - #30. As for single issues, I would like to obtain a copy of Detective Comics #140 (first Riddler), Batman #171 and Batman #232, Giant-Size X-Men #1, and Incredible Hulk #181. The last three issues are replacement copies for books that I sold to help finance the purchase of Amazing Fantasy #15 and Showcase #4.
  5. Just as Chuck has the right to sell books at the prices he sees fit, @BA773 has the same right to speak out about them being overpriced. I would find it interesting to find out just how many books he sells in a month. Does he also sell current comics, or is he strictly a back issue dealer? I have never been to his store, nor do I have any desire to visit it.
  6. I have already been following your advice. If I am looking for a back issue, I don't even bother looking at Mile High's website, which is atrocious by the way.
  7. Well, based on the thread posted by @pemart1966, it seems clear that people have made their feelings about Chip quite clear. I don't think that any of the posts were complimentary, and based on what you said about this series of incidents, none of them deserved to be. You're right. I wasn't here, and I don't know exactly what happened, nor is it necessary for me to know. I am sorry people were ripped off, but there is nothing that I can do to make them whole or to make them feel better. Would it help if I made a post belittling Chip and his shady ways? Since your comment about mental health occurred in the very first sentence of your post, I don't believe it is correct to say that it was a "third hand side comment." I clearly overreacted to your post, and I apologize for that. Depression runs in my family, and I have seen firsthand how destructive it can be. Yes, I projected my issues onto Chip's issues, and I was wrong to have done that. I am overly sensitive when I see someone being flippant about mental health issues, and for that, I won't apologize. If everyone here feels so strongly that Chip should stay on the Hall of Shame list, I'm not going to disagree about it with you or anyone else any further. As you have indicated, I wasn't around when all this occurred. Again, I apologize for overreacting. I will do my best to fade into the background.
  8. That's one of the big problems with how our country deals with mental health. "Why should I do anything? It's not my problem."
  9. Well, considering that it was @Cat who brought the mental health issue up, is Cat the one who is playing and manipulating me or is it Chip?
  10. Who are you to decide how being on or off a list on a message board impacts Chip's mental health? As a person who suffers from depression, it's not as easy as you think to not allow things to bother you. Trust me, based on 40+ years of experience, it's not like you can turn things off and on like a light switch. I have gone around and around with various counselors regarding how I need to change how I react to things. It always revolves around how I need to change my behavior, and it's never about the person who's causing the problem changing his/her behavior. We all have our own idiosyncrasies, and something that bothers me might not bother you at all, and vice versa. I don't know how many times someone has said to me, "Why are you making such a big deal about this?" Here's why - because it IS a big deal to me, and no one has the right to tell me how I should feel about something. Mental health is a terribly misunderstood problem in this country. I sincerely hope you have not had to deal with your own mental health issues, but even if you have, I don't think it's appropriate for you to comment in any way regarding another person's mental health issues. I wasn't even a board member when all this brouhaha with this Chip occurred. But if taking him off this "list" helps him feel better about himself, then I think taking him off this "list" is a good idea. As it is clear that this really bothers you, you can become the "Chip is not allowed to sell on this board" sheriff. As you can tell, it bothers me greatly when people make light of other people's mental health issues. And no, I have NO intention of changing how I react to this.
  11. Great news! I will now bump up my grade to a 7.0 - 7.5.
  12. Is that tanning, a sun shadow, or a stain in the white area of "MARVEL COMICS GROUP"? I see a 6.5 - 7.0.
  13. Hello, everyone. I am new to sports cards collecting, and I have some questions. When a card is graded, it can receive a grade based on the shape the card is in, and another grade based on the autograph. Is this correct? I would really like to obtain an autographed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar basketball card. I would like to get one that was autographed when it came out of the pack, rather than one where it was signed afterwards. How much should I be budgeting for this type of purchase?
  14. As is often said here on this board, collect what you like. I am mainly interested in SA Marvel and DC books, with an occasional GA book. I have tried several non-superhero series (Fables, Saga, Y - The Last Man, Preacher, Sandman, just to name a few). I gave up on Fables around issue #150 and Saga around issue #50, but I read the other series beginning to end. I read all these series via TPB. So, I have sampled books that do not pertain to superheroes, as I am sure that many other people here have. I even read a manga TPB called One Piece that I student loaned to me. I finished it, but it was a struggle. I really have no interest in reading other manga books, regardless of how popular they are with other people. Yes, I am quite focused on what I like, but I don't feel that makes me narrow-sighted. I well aware that there are other genres besides super-heroes, as I have tried them, but they are just not my cup of tea. Quite honestly, and I know this may sound harsh, but I really have no stake in whether more comic books stores go out of business. I am currently not their client, as I don't buy new comics anymore. I like to visit my local comic book store (Krypton Comics in Omaha) every once in a while, but they seldom have any books that I want. Currently, I am trying to finish JLA #1 - #10, Atom #1 - #10, and Hawkman #1 - #10 in slabs. As long as there are back issue dealers and Ebay available to me, I will be happy as a clam.
  15. This is definitely not something that you see every day. Great book!
  16. Steve Ditko was a big fan of Ayn Rand and objectivism, but it had no effect on my enjoyment of his Amazing Spider-Man run. I know that he wanted the Green Goblin to be "just some guy," instead of Peter's best friend's father. I don't know how I would have felt about that, but the Green Goblin was a good villain no matter what secret identity he had. I'm not going to start arguing with you about "waken," because I find the topic utterly ridiculous. There is one thing that I know to be true: some people look and find things that aren't there. The converse is also true: some people don't see things that are there.
  17. Of course, back then, if you wanted more Superman, Batman, etc., your choices were watch the few serials that were produced, or listen to the radio. Today, the same type of choices seem almost endless.
  18. I stopped going to the theater because I can't make it through a 2+ hour movie without having to get up to use the restroom. I saw a matinee of the last Avengers movie, and the only way I made it through was to not drink any liquids the entire day. If I watch the same movie at home, I can pause it whenever I need to, so as to use the restroom or get something to eat, and then pick up where I left off when I return. Also, I have been wearing hearing aids for 3+ years, and they amplify ALL sounds, not just voices. Another benefit of streaming services is close captioning, which I don't expect to see in a theater any time soon.
  19. I believe that @Prince Namor was commenting on what led him to stop reading comics, rather than commenting about all comic readers.
  20. I would be hard pressed to remember the last time I bought a new comic. I'm guessing that it is nearing ten years now. This mainly happened due to the fact that I did not enjoy reading new comics, along with the fact that I realized that I was idiotic to continue to purchase comics that I did not enjoy just to have a complete run. I agree with @Prince Namor's suggestions. I would add the following, and this is mostly related to the publishers. Lower the prices! I can't begin to tell you how many times I have seen or heard a parent express sticker shock, followed by, "These things used to cost $1.25 [or less] when I was growing up!" Why would any parent, in their right mind, buy their child ten comic books, which would provide maybe two hours of entertainment, when they can buy the latest PlayStation or X-Box game for approximately the same price, and get virtually unlimited entertainment?
  21. I picked this book up from an Ebay user. Would this corner nick preclude this book from getting a CGC 9.8, assuming everything else was pristine?
