Request To Remove Chip Cataldo From The HOS
Math Teacher replied to Cat's topic in Marketplace Probations
A little late to the party, eh? Next time, I suggest that you read further in the thread before you post. -
As you know, I brought up the topic of what I could possibly get for my set of Atlas Black Knight series #1 - #5. I know this doesn't belong in this forum, but I like to live life dangerously. I just completed a big trade on IG. I traded Atlas Black Knight #1 - #5 plus a small amount of cash to receive Detective Comics #140 CGC 3.0.

If I had to guess, I'm going with restoration removal
Math Teacher replied to batman_fan's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
I know how loath some people are towards restored books. However, if buying a restored book is the only way for you to afford the grail of your dreams, I believe many of us would jump at the chance. I also think that the age of the book has a lot to do with people's willingness to accept restoration. GA = some chance, SA = smaller chance, BA or later = very little chance. I have had three books from my own collection in which I had restoration removed: Amazing Spider-Man #12 (I didn't realize that it had any restoration when I sent in), Showcase #13 (same reason as before), and Tales to Astonish #35 (I bought it restored). All these books will stay in my collection unless I decide to upgrade them or until I pass on to the great big comic bookstore in the sky. -
Amazing Spider-Man Collecting Thread!
Math Teacher replied to Point Five's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
Cool. I didn't even notice that. I wonder what the odds would be if you submitted two books and got exactly the same grade and exactly the same page quality. Unless you're an expert grader, I would think the odds would be astronomical. -

Superman #53 CGC 2.0 from Instagram. I definitely overpaid for this book, especially since the same book in CGC 5.0 sold for $960 through Heritage Auctions on 11/19/2023. I had missed out on this book when it was last auctioned on ComicLink, and my "I really want to get this book" attitude led me astray. I must say, it definitely looks better than a CGC 2.0, as most of the not-so-nice stuff is on the back.

What's new in your Silver Age collection this week
Math Teacher replied to Silver's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
I subbed quite a bit in October/November, and I went on a little bit of a buying spree. Hawkman #2 CGC 7.0, Hawkman #6 CGC 8.0, and Atom #5 CGC 7.5 (Rocky Mountain pedigree), all from ComicLink. Atom #6, Atom #9, and Hawkman #9 (Boston pedigree), all from MyComicShop. Justice League of America #4 CGC 5.5 from Instagram. Hawkman #5 CGC 7.5 and Hawkman #7 CGC 7.5 from Ebay. Last, but certainly not least, Mystery in Space #53 CGC 6.0 from fellow board member, @nochips. -

I agree with the sentiments posted about @Jesse-Lee for his stick-to-it-ive-ness and about @Paul (GG) © ® ™⚽️💙 for coming up with a great contest. I subbed today, and I planned on doing some searching during the day, but, alas, .... -
Thank you so much for your time! Best wishes!

If I send in some books to be pre-screened, how are books handled if they don't meet the pre-screening requirement? For example, if I send in three books to be pre-screened for 9.8, what happens if two books meet the criteria and the other book does not? I know that I would have to pay a $9 rejection fee for the one book, but is the rejected book sent back immediately, which means more shipping charges? Or is just kept with the other two books, but just not graded?

I'm not exactly a newbie, but here goes. If I send in some books to be pre-screened, how are books handled if they don't meet the pre-screening requirement? My runs include: Amazing Spider-Man #1 - #400, plus Amazing Fantasy #15 and Annuals #1 - #5. Fantastic Four #1 - #300, plus Annuals #1 - #6. Daredevil #1 - #200, plus Annuals #1 and #4. Atom #1 - #45, plus Showcase #34 - #36. Hawkman #1 - #27 (minus #25), plus Brave and the Bold #34 - #36 and #42 - #44. Metal Men #1 - #56, plus Showcase #37 - #40. These probably really don't count as runs, but I also have these: Avengers #1 - #16. Incredible Hulk #1 - #6. Journey into Mystery #83 - #92, plus a few additional issues. Sgt. Fury #1 - #10. Strange Tales #101 - #110, plus a few additional issues. Tales of Suspense #39 - #49, plus a few additional issues. Tales to Astonish #27, #35 - #44, plus a few additional issues. X-Men #1 - #16. Brave and the Bold #2 - #24. Flash - All the first appearances of the SA villains, along with SA Trickster covers, plus Showcase #4, #8, #13, and #14. I am currently working on obtaining slabbed copies of Justice League of America #1 - #14, to go along with my Brave and the Bold #28 - #30. As for single issues, I would like to obtain a copy of Detective Comics #140 (first Riddler), Batman #171 and Batman #232, Giant-Size X-Men #1, and Incredible Hulk #181. The last three issues are replacement copies for books that I sold to help finance the purchase of Amazing Fantasy #15 and Showcase #4.

Just as Chuck has the right to sell books at the prices he sees fit, @BA773 has the same right to speak out about them being overpriced. I would find it interesting to find out just how many books he sells in a month. Does he also sell current comics, or is he strictly a back issue dealer? I have never been to his store, nor do I have any desire to visit it.
