  1. I like the FOMO you try to add in. Those who don't fall for it sit on the sidelines and watch others make money. This whole topic has the vibe of those guys trying to sell the latest greatest crypto coin 😄 I know you'll strongly disagree, but if this thing ever actually works, to me it seems to hinge on the greater fool theory, which is not a way I like to try and grow my money
  2. You're selling the idea of fractional comic book investment. Language can be tricky sometimes, so don't feel too bad about your continued misses
  3. Recent pick up, my first buster brown. Going to give it a good read when I'm off work.
  4. What makes this tricky to even talk about is you seem to keep changing your sales pitch. "It's an investment!" "No, it's a layaway plan" "Wait, it's how you can own a piece of a first appearance" "No it's an investment again!" If you just pushed the financial investment angle and dropped the collectible pitch, I think you'd actually have a defensible argument. Not a good investment imo, but a decent argument.
  5. I started getting into pulps as GA comic prices soared. Now I need to find something else to start collecting. Are pogs still a thing?
  6. "The expert was delicious" Sold ebay listings for this book are a lot lower than what even the expert quoted. 120 for the set would have been overpaying, let alone 200.
  7. You're emotional about this type of an investment vehicle. That is never a good sign. “The investor’s chief problem—and his worst enemy—is likely to be himself. In the end, how your investments behave is much less important than how you behave.” Samuel Clemens
  8. I wonder which is worth more, today, if totaled together. The mile high collection or the mile high 2 collection. I'm kinda leaning towards the warehouse find.
  9. isn't the whole scheme predicated on the hope that the book, and therefore the shares, continually increase in price? your timed payment idea doesn't seem to work when the cost of shares for the book you already can't afford continually increase as you buy each one at a higher and higher price. imagine back when I put an snes copy of mortal combat away on layaway as a kid. If every time I went in to make a payment, the cost of the game and hence what I still owed kept going up, the whole point falls apart.
  10. People can do whatever they wish with their money, but we can also speak our minds regarding new investment vehicles. The idea of fractional investing as it pertains to comic books, to me, is silly. Hopefully you guys do well and the whole thing works out, but this type of thing already imploded with some attempts at mtg cards. Mythicmarkets had to "halt trading", which is never a good sign. The whole thing seems to me as a get rich quick scheme, where someone can buy a comic for say 20k, sell 40k worth of ",shares", and then get to display a fine piece they already doubled their money on. Personally, for investments, I'll stick to traditional stocks with all the benefits and protections they enjoy. For collectibles, I'd much rather buy a 1k book I can enjoy and maybe sell someday for a profit rather than own a tiny piece of an action 1 and hope the owner doesn't go belly up and run off with the comic.
  11. If I'm reading these correctly, it looks like a few pieces of OA from Finley and Brundage are coming up for auction on HA soon. Way out of my price range, but fun to watch. This piece (not in current auction) sold in 2014 for 42k, then resold for significantly less in 2020 for 27k. Both descriptions describe some wear, so I'm not certain if damage happened after the original purchase which may have caused the drop in value. If not, that's somewhat surprising. Looking at other Brundage pieces, it seems they were averaging around 40k in 2014.
  12. Weird how with cards, centering is super important, while with comics it doesn't even seem to matter.
  13. Decided to try ebay for pulps again after some bad experiences last year. Was really looking forward to this book, as the cover seems familiar but I can't quite figure out how, but when. I opened the package the smell of mold was overwhelming. Listing mentioned some water damage, but I disagree that this is vg- as listed 🤢 These two I'm pretty happy with, though.
  14. I picked up the back cover for a cool 20 bucks
  15. Couple of years ago, cap 1 pages were selling for around 100 on ebay. Meant to get one or two, but kept missing by a bit. Can only find 1 completed listing on ebay, 4 pages for over 2k. I remember a while back someone offering a Cap 1 splash page for around 700 on FB, which now I'm wishing I jumped on.
  16. 1600 on ebay recently, listed as fine+ with tan pages. I didn't come close, about 1k short on my last bid This detective mag went for 2175, listed as VG/high grade. Caught me by surprise, but didn't realize it was the first issue when I threw a much lower bid at it. Figured it went high because of the strength of Hubbard's writing. Listed as scarce in Bookery. There is a small pile of mid grade Weird Tales ending on HA tomorrow. I have bids on a few, but pretty sure I won't get them. Be curious to see where mid grade weird tales end up, spans late 20's to early 40's with a couple Brundage covers, and the third printed Conan story.
  17. Found these fellows in a small bookstore in a very tiny town today. Stopped to look for comics, and saw the tops of these guys poking out of a cardboard box. Owner was a super nice lady who told me the box was on the way to the dumpster! Kind of rough shape, but my first blue books. Looking forward to giving them a read tomorrow.
