  1. Just wasted my time with this cheap nightmare https://www.lowes.com/pd/edsal-24-in-D-x-48-in-W-x-72-in-H-5-Tier-Steel-Freestanding-Shelving-Unit/50403882 Ran $100, problem is it's cheap flimsy metal, and the top half has no secure way to attach to the bottom half. They expect it to balance on the thin, flimsy L brackets. Any current recommendations for decent metal shelving that fits long boxes? I don't trust plywood boards based on past experiences at work. Trying to avoid this happening again
  2. You are, but just watch from a distance. There are guys here that could demolish our tiny collections with a single book
  3. I mean, I got a copy off an ebay auction around 2003ish, and probably paid about a buck for it (lot auction), but it would still take me several thousand dollars to get even close to a low-end AF15. Saying you traded it and some cash for x is kinda pointless unless you say how much cash. I could say I traded my half-empty beer and some cash for an action comics 1
  4. Not going to lie, as soon as the pic loaded I spit out my beer. Luckily I'm outside on my phone.
  5. I just want to vent a tiny bit. Bought from 2 pulp sellers on ebay over the last 2 days, and had 2 bad experiences. On one, the guy listed several books across a week, and I asked him if I could wait to pay for one I had won until the other auctions finished, to save him having to ship multiple packages, and got a 3 word response, basically saying 3 days, even though some of the pulps I had high bids on were 4-5 days out. I wrote back, ok, ill just pay now, sorry to have bothered ya, and got back a paragraph of ALL CAPS RANT. Jesus, customer service Second, I bought 3 pulps from a guy. He lists that he combines shipping, which is why I bought 3, I like to save on shipping. I asked for an invoice, and he sends one listing $16.50 as the shipping cost. I asked him if that reflected the combined shipping and he said "yes, look closer, it has a $2.50 discount". Where I feel a miffed is, the price per book he listed to ship was $4.50 for one, and $6 on the other two. Total shipping should be $16.50 before combining for a discount, so his $2.50 discount wasn't even real. I could see charging $10-$11 combined shipping for the 3 pulps, if his stated shipping cost per auction is $6, but I don't see how adding 2 more pulps to the $6 box brings the total shipping cost to $16.50. I mean, when you advertise you combine shipping on your auctions, doesn't that give the buyer an expectation that the combined shipping would reflect some sort of a reasonable discount? I'm not going to argue with the guy over this, but I really feel this isn't how combined shipping is supposed to work. Maybe I've been spoiled by some amazing comic sellers over the years like Blissard?
  6. Which is ok, the guy I was replying to was saying that more people have heard of Wagner than superman, which I really don't think is the case. Ask a dozen people you know who aren't collectors if they've heard of superman. Now do the same with Wagner. Id be curious to hear your results.
  7. So made it back to the shop, and couldn't find it in the sup box. Wandered over to the dollar bins, and found all its cousins lol.
  8. I'd bet cash money that at least half, if not more, of anyone under the age of 25 has never heard of wagner.
  9. Same, I've only been dipping my toe in the pulp pool for a year or so, and he's spot on about us newbies gravitating to weird tales. And planet stories. I just won (and probably overpaid for) the first issue and am thinking of piecing together a vg run of the series. What is a fair price for most of these in VG?
  10. If that is the first spider-woman, then this is the first Iron Man, War Machine, and Bender from Futurama.
  11. Completely agree. Love classic cap but don't want to shell out 500 on a book? Schomberg did equally gorgeous work on Real Life comics which can be had in vg for under 30 bucks. Tons of later barks duck books go for cheap if not hg. With patience you can pick up the occasional prewar book for cheap if you're diligent. Skip baker romances and get his westerns. Lb Cole? Frisky Fables.
  12. Finish my tip top tarzan run. Spend less buying junky low grade books cause they're "cheap" and save some powder for when a book I actually want shows up i have a shot.
  13. Looks like the last zodiac message was finally cracked. I HOPE YOU ARE HAVING LOTS OF FUN IN TRYING TO CATCH ME THAT WASNT ME ON THE TV SHOW WHICH BRINGS UP A POINT ABOUT ME I AM NOT AFRAID OF THE GAS CHAMBER BECAUSE IT WILL SEND ME TO PARADICE ALL THE SOONER BECAUSE I NOW HAVE ENOUGH SLAVES TO WORK FOR ME WHERE EVERYONE ELSE HAS NOTHING WHEN THEY REACH PARADICE SO THEY ARE AFRAID OF DEATH I AM NOT AFRAID BECAUSE I KNOW THAT MY NEW LIFE IS LIFE WILL BE AN EASY ONE IN PARADICE DEATH
  14. 4320 with bp, whoa. The note from barks was touching.
  15. Imagine if CGC started grading original art
  16. I don't think "everyone knows a books history" is a good argument to not disclose that these books have been doctored. buttock made a good point. Many collectors want unrestored/pressed/squeezed/heat lamped original GA books. If people chasing a higher CGC number to squeeze more money are doing practices that, again, in my opinion are on the same level as color touch, this should be noted and disclosed in the grading process, or the grading processes is worthless. People are trying to judge the books on their merits, but it's sometimes difficult to do through a CGC case to know whether or not the book took a detour through restoville.
  17. Yup. Also a lot of people who still can't grok supply/demand. This advertisement selling for more than Darkhawk 1 doesn't make it his first appearance, obviously. Or, I should say, it should be obvious.
  18. Not that I'm in the competition for these big dollar books, but I'd take a book with light color resto on the cover over a doctored steam pressed surgically altered "blue" label any day.
  19. Well, Richie shows the poor judgment to bring poor Gloria, who rejects wealth, to Snobsdale, where even Richie is ostracized. What was he thinking? Got a new tarzan tip top for the collection. Think I'm over halfway there now.
  20. I think there is a market for western books cause I got outbide on that hawk book a few days ago, for what I thought was well more than a western should go for
