  1. Purchased from House of Comics at September's Sacramento Comic Convention:
  2. Time to start posting some recent arrivals. This one was purchased last week from my LCS. I wonder if Paratrooper has seen this one? Trooper cover AND story inside:
  3. Could the tooth not be falling out because HE'S PUTTING IT IN UPSIDE DOWN!
  4. This just came in the mail from House of Comics. Golden age? Barely, but I think it squeaks in by 14 issues: I also have a stack of Fiction House books I obtained recently, which I will post later when I get off my butt to scan them.
  5. Now everyone gets to color TWO pages.
  6. I wanted to color. I'll bring scissors. Everyone can color ONE page. Then afterwards it's snack time.
  7. I saw the red cover then the very top of the Detective logo in the photo as I scrolled down and swooned! Very nice book.
  8. While I'm not man enough to do lots of things (such as changing my oil, killing a deer, or slapping my butler around for not cutting the crusts off my fried bologna sandwiches), collecting Planets is in fact within my circle of competence. I see your dare, and raise you a dare to sell me yours. This a family-oriented board. Please refrain from any references to "slapping the butler."
  9. I love the fact there's a group of people out there who will discuss such esoterica as Fiction House color fading. If I brought this up to my wife, her eyes would glaze over faster than a fanboy chasing a variant cover. I'm not certain the fading is due to printing issues, but I'm no expert. Could it be that the FH publishers were so cheap they asked the printer to run more copies that he would have normally without replenishing the press? I always thought the cheap FH production values overall had to do with the fading. Take a look at Jumbo 100, for example. Most copies I've seen are trapezoidal instead of square. My preference is for a bright cover also. I've passed over many FH books that were washed out but otherwise nice.
  10. Ok Fiction House guys, a question here: FH books are notorious for cover fading. So given a choice between a bright cover with lower page quality or a faded cover with better page quality, which would you pick? Assume the page quality is overall acceptable, not brown or brittle.
  11. Female Blacksmith GGA cover with bondate and headlights whatta bunch of perv's that collect GGA comics... Gotta be a Fiction House book...
  12. I love the early, insolent-looking Jughead. Nice book.
  13. A heads-up for all you pre-code guys. Marc of House of Comics had a nice box of recent arrivals at the Sacramento Convention yesterday. Quite a few very nice pre-code horror books. I'm not sure as to rarity or anything, but they looked nice to me. You may want to send over want lists or prod him to post a list of what he has.
  14. Run! Run away now before you, too, are sucked into the vortex of Fiction House! (I don't need the competition... ) Is your next purchase going to be Planet Comics #2?
  15. What would golden age be without unintentional homoerotic humor? Batman 66 anyone?
  16. Dicky in the Magic Forest! What would Wertham say?
  17. My latest Fiction House and first Ghost Comics. Deep dark colors on the cover. I personally blame all of you who posted Ghost Comics for putting me off the pure and noble jungle girl collecting path.
  18. I went to A-1 Comics yesterday to meet up with Neurosis138. Since I had some time, I figured I'd peruse the FIction House books for any new Jumbos or Fights. (Gotta have my jungle girls!) Came home with this instead: The scan doesn't do the colors justice. They're deep with a good bit of gloss left on the cover. It was one of those "If I don't buy it now I may never see it again purchases." And Chris (Neurosis) is a nice guy. It's nice to have a fellow CGC-er in the area.
  19. Purchased from my LCS. I always thought the stretchy guy was the elongated man. He isn't.
  20. You now only need eight (instead of nine) for a complete set!
  21. Do Sugar & Spike count for this proposed thread (though they're technically silver/bronze)? Marc from HouseofComics is bringing a few issues to Sacramento next weekend for me to look at. I still regret not purchasing the one he had at Wondercon a year or two ago. (Though he gave me a great deal on a bright and shiny Batman 146.)
  22. Can I come over to your house to read some comics? I promise to wash my hands before I touch them.
  23. Two recent arrivals: The Batman came from SNE. They said VG+ in the eBay auction. It looks VG+ to me. I paid a tad over Overstreet value. A CGC 6.0 I was bidding on went for 3X Overstreet and nearly twice what I was willing to pay.
