Strange Discolouration….
comicginger1789 replied to comicginger1789's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
It is....rusty staples though. A tiny bit has affected the centrefold. I might perform some self preservation methods with some era correct staples. Maybe -

My confidence in your response is also 99.99987% because I figured one of you would be the respondent and thus set the record straight. At any rate I love the book regardless and was happy to add as a late Halloween addition to my collection! -
Strange Discolouration….
comicginger1789 posted a topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
Hi all, Has anyone seen this type of discolouration or staining before? It’s on my copy of Journey Into Unknown Worlds 24 that I just recently picked up. I’ve never seen this before, just really noticeable on inside covers. Any info would help! -
Glad this was resolved. Sad that CGC tried to deflect and that it took much work to get them to admit error. Also sad to see a beautiful book likely gone to trash. I hope this is a 1/50000 error. Still should inspire some changes or at least a reminder to staff…go through entire contents before tossing (ie dump the box upside down and make sure it’s only peanuts and paper that are left at the bottom)

The answer is one of these at this point... 1) You forgot to put the magazine in and misplaced (or placed in some other parcel). It happens 2) Someone somewhere opened and took the magazine out (post office, or elsewhere along its travels) 3) Person at CGC took out comics and did not empty the entire package If 3), the book could have later been found OR got destroyed if their practice is to customer boxes once books removed

I will start with a question..have you been collecting for 10+ years and feel familiar/comfortable with grading? If yes, and you think your books will achieve the desired grades (and hit the expected sales to make grading worthwhile) then go for it. Keep in mind you will have $50-60 tied up per book after grading/shipping/cleaning/pressing is considered. Also consider the following scenario. A 9.2 copy of a book sells on Heritage for $500. There are also two other 9.2 sales on ebay of $400, 410 and one sale elsewhere for $395. I would think it would be unrealistic to hope that Heritage would duplicate the result with my book....I would assume it fall closer to the other sales. Also take into account the fact that there are fees and such associated with using a company like Heritage If you answer no to the question asked, then I think some time is needed to get valuable feedback on grades. The "Hey Buddy Can You Spare A Grade" thread on the forums here is a great wakeup call, especially when your eyes see a 9.0 (and this a book worth grading to sell) and everyone else points out that it is a 7.5 (which would cause you to lose money). I am not saying people here are all experts but very rarely when I have posted a book in the past and gotten feedback has the consensus been way off. I had the same aspirations of a book getting a 9.0 and posted it here and everyone told me 8.0-8.5 at best and sure enough when I graded the book, it got 8.0. So was not really worth grading in the end. The opinions from others who have no attachment to the books makes a difference and you will become familiar with which members are strong graders when you look through that forum.

Can you smell an NFT? No? I don't want it then, I will take my comic book thank you. This all sounds like a way to make this hobby less fun and more fungible and I disagree with that. You also sound like you are trying to promote whatever hypno crypto you are working on which, good for you but I only reply to ads taken out in comic books so sadly, I'm turning the page and continuing on with the story. -
9 for me. Two grades off on every book (either higher or lower) except for Nature Boy which I was off by 1. In hindsight, I was thinking this round was going to run the table with grades from 5.0-7.0 but alas it did not. I had the Out Of Shadows at a 5.0. Only reason being the GA bump. Also I own FF49 with a small corner piece missing (maybe mine is smaller?) and mine got a 5.0. At any rate, probably puts me waaaaay out of any potential contention but bring on the next one.

Yay, love this time of year (with this and hopefully the big raffle) Also (for those who recall and were wondering) my son who was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease last holiday season and spent Christmas and Boxing day in the hospital, did suffer damage to his heart causing an enlarged artery and was put on blood thinners and aspirin upon this discovery. The effects of this had not changed by April.... ....but he did have an echocardiogram last week and much to our delight, the damage is healing and his artery (should it continue at the same rate) should get close to healing in the next six months. Very happy news for us. Thought I would share some good news heading into the wintery season. For the record, where I live has about 4 inches of snow for the first time since I've lived here (10 years). We usually have cold, wet Halloweens but this is the first snow-on-the-ground adventure out with the kiddos haha!

CGC books are hard to fake well....I have never seen a legtimate "fake" book in a slab in hand ever. If anyone has pictures of someone doing this (fake slabs, fake books, etc) do share. I have seen thousands of fake items being listed for sale but those items never end up in peoples hands...it is just people paying for a book someone does not have, the "fake" seller gets paid and then nothing is ever sent. Value can be found aplenty these days. It is true that someone could have bought a book (say in 2020) for $50, spent $250 to get it pressed and graded and signed and that $300 investment is now only worth $60-100. That happens often in the flux of the market. There are often scenarios when books sell for less than market value (sellers just want the book gone and rather than sit around for 6 months and wait to make $100, they sell a book quickly now for closer to half price). Also....comics and crypto are two VERY different collectible/investible commodities. I doubt collecting comics will ever go that way. I can tell you that the number of people on these forums who would rather trade all of their physical books for some sort of digital entity representing them is extremely low...borderline zero. -

comicginger1789 replied to mateus menor's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Cover appears detached or barely hanging on. Because of that combined with the other wear I think a 3.0 is best case scenario here . If the cover were firmly attached I could see as high as 4.0 As for whether it’s “worth it” to grade, you’d have to consider what a 3.0 sells for and determine if adding an additional $40-50 to do so is worth it on top of what you paid for it -
Looks 5.0-5.5 for me. It could hit 6.0 but that stain or whatever on the back might prevent that

Is it next level must have content? No Is it a fun series that’s cheap to collect with decent art? Yeah.
