  1. Don't be afraid to handle. Just make sure hands are clean and dry and if you are that worried, slip on some gloves
  2. ^Definitely needs a cleaning to secure a 7.0-7.5. As it sits, I put it around a 5.0. Still a great book. Wish I had a copy
  3. I will also say in the range of 7.0-7.5 for the reasons above plus the fact that the front cover appears slightly faded. The red seems more orange than it ought to, unless that is the lighting. Not sure if a press would help or not, book looks pretty flat and the spine looks awesome. Would definitely grade it as this book in any grade is money right now.
  4. I would say it would not be a 7.0 at all. The tear is not great plus there looks to be foxing or something on the barcode and bottom of the front cover. For me, you are more likely in the 5.0-5.5 range. It just looks dirty but maybe a clean could push it up a to a Fine.
  5. 3.5 for me. Nice looking though but I think the wrinkling and spine wear hurts it from being a possible 4.0
  6. I will share a signed book that I consider one of my prized possessions. I bought this online about 12 years ago. The seller said it was in “good shape” but had writing inside inside. I asked whether it was all over the book and he said it was in the margins and said “Gil Kane”. I didn’t hold my breath but bid the $15 and won it. it arrived and to this day I am pretty convinced Gil signed it. So then in 2017 I had Stan sign it too during his last trip to Canada’s Fan Expo. Happy to have this great story touched by two legends!
  7. To store my comics, I have shelves that were purchased at Ikea. There are cloth cube bins that slide into the shelves I have and this keeps them in the dark. Bins are durable and can hold around 150 comics per. The two shelves I have hold 24 bins so I have room for well over 3000 comics (someday may need more but for now, it works great and looks great and the wife thinks they match the basement so shes happy...win win win!). I also just have them all bagged and boarded. As for keeping track of what I have, I use www.comicdb.com. It allows you to sign up and add comics you own. It alphabetizes and also allows you to put notes in. Plus it is free. I can access it anywhere online. I love it!
  8. Awesome story! I guess the big thing is determining why you want them verified in the first place. If you have as much proof as you say (and can show or share with someone who asks), then I see no reason to worry about a fan doubting the authenticity of the signatures. In terms of getting an expert to verify, well, to me that sounds like the intent is on selling some of these comics, which is awesome too because there are many collectors who would LOVE to own something signed by a legend like Mr. Ditko. If selling, I would just be honest and provide all that you can. In terms of value, that can be tricky. Since you have this story, that may be unique and exactly what a collector wants to know when acquiring a book like this. So in terms of prices, I think you could ask in the $400-600 range easily and get some takers. The books you have signed are neat but for me personally, I would want an actual comic he worked on rather than a reprint. That is just a personal preference. If you have an issue he did artwork on from the 70's or older, that could command some serious value. As for preserving, well that may be difficult if you want someone to recognize them as legitimate signatures. CGC won't authenticate the signatures. If I recall, they will either grade with a blue label and take into effect the signature as a detractor to the comic OR a qualified green label where they do not take into effect the signature and they will notate that there is a signature on the cover (but it will not say "signed by Steve Ditko" on the label). This may up the value slightly, depending on the collector and the comic submitted. Personally, while I love the look of a slabbed book, I would prefer a Ditko signature raw. Hope this helps somewhat!
  9. ^ That seems generous. The amount of staining and pieces missing...neither one has more appeal over the other for me. Grading wise, I am at a 1.8 on both.
  10. I remember when this book was a regular $40-60 book. How time changes things...
  11. I am at 3.0 mainly because of the amount of edge wear, with the potential for a 3.5
  12. Is the date stamp period correct? If so it makes me love the comic even more! I would happily take a date stamp from around the time the comic was sold on any of my comics! In CGC terms I think this warrants a 4.0-4.5 as is with 5.0 potential
  13. Dirty back cover but awesome. Is the spine split at the bottom? i am saying 3.5-4.0 personally but very nice for the age!
  14. Have always wondered if this would be in VF range or if it slips into Fine with some of the flaws. small crease near the title, small ding on Spidey, very small piece missing bottom of back cover (like barely noticeable). Thoughts?
  15. Definitely not mint. Closer up photos would help but the corners don’t look as sharp and I can see spine ticks on the back cover. 7.5-8.0 for me.
  16. I’d be at 6.0 only because the front cover is so good for a primarily black cover. The stain on the back is unfortunate but if it doesn’t hurt the interim I think a Fine grade is obtainable.
  17. I’d say anything less than 9.0 would be a shock. Definitely a great copy!
  18. The staples are a bit wonky for me but I would safely go 8.5 with a chance at 9.0.
