  1. Sweet. I would hazard to guess the 9.6 was achieved vs 9.8 because of the top left corner being not as crisp as possible
  2. Yes better pics are needed. Back cover is dirty, so if you are thinking this is a "mint" comic, you will be disappointed. It does appear to have 9.0+ potential though but better pics are needed to confirm that.
  3. Yeah, that yellow staining on back cover hurts more than those ticks. 8.0-8.5. If the stains were not there, I agree with a 9.0-9.2
  4. It is a nice copy! Sharp corners, no spine ticks. I usually max out at 9.4 (I am always hesitant to guess 9.6 or 9.8) but with that being said, I would not be surprised at all if it hit higher. Unless there are some sneaky small hidden stains somewhere, you will get a solid grade on this one.
  5. 4.0-4.5 with the stains Cleaning a book is done using various erasers. So stains like that do not come out. There are some guys who play around with actually getting the paper wet as a means to eliminate or reduce the stain but I personally would not try that for fear of doing other damage.
  6. A 2.0 seems right. No pieces missing? If so, could hit lower. The highest I could see possible is 2.5 with that amount of creasing and wear.
  7. A reader's crease on a Silver or Bronze book, and I am sure 5.0 is where it falls. On an older book? Would not be shocked to see 6.0
  8. Definitely not quite a Fine....better than a lot of 4.5-5.0 books. So I will also settle at 5.5.
  9. I agree. Lotsa ticks and creases and shes a dirty girl. A good dry cleaner would probably make that white on the front and back look real sharp and possibly enhance the shot at a 4.0 outright.
  10. I mean the back appears as though a clean would help... Consider what you have in it too. And the cost to do that and regrade. I don't know what you have in it but if a small amount, maybe taking the risk it worth it (I assume the bump would only be .5 to 1 grade. Otherwise, look at what 8.0 range copies go for and just buy one and sell this and save yourself the risk of not getting a bump.
  11. Yeah like I might keep a book like that for it’s oddness. Plus as a nothing book i can still read it and enjoy its unique printing flaw.
  12. Sometimes keys are in the eyes of the beholder. Is Wolverine 1 from 1988 a key? For a die hard Wolverine fan, sure. First solo ongoing series. And for some, a decent classic cover image. But for me, if I ever did care about Wolverine and wanted to, I would grab a Hulk 180 or 181. And I do own earlier more important issues like Millers mini series (something I think has way more value both as a story and helping to grow the character). With regards to 180/181, I have had both and sold both and been much more happy doing so knowing the money made went towards what I love. Will I regret those sales? I don't live that way...I don't live by the sale. I don't think about books once they are gone. Sure the Hulk 180s I sold for $300-400 might today fetch $500-600 in their condition. But as someone who uses the hobby to fund itself, if I did not sell them when I did, I would not have spend money on say the low grade Daredevil 1 I got. I look at it that way and never look back. I take joy in the books coming in and know that whatever books went out meant little or nothing to me. Somewhere therein lies the secret to happy collecting.
  13. Agree, I have also never wanted this issue. In fact when I bought my first ever collection at age 18, there were twenty copies of it in there. I read it, felt eh about the artwork and story, and sold every copy for profit on the collection as a whole. I understand that books like this will maybe become more key (sorry for using that term) and that there are new books that could hit such status but in my own collecting world, my focus is on the 1940s-1970s above all else. And I learned long ago you cant have it all (unless you are extremely rich which some here may be). There will always be in demand books I have no desire for but am glad there is desire for them because it allows me to make money to buy books I want. Consider that collection waaay back. I paid $100 for it then. I sold every copy of Wolverine 1 and made $200 (sold for $10 a pop). What I decided to keep from said collection was Marvel Spotlight 28 AND used the money to eventually spend a whopping $60 at the time on a high grade copy of ASM 300. I am way happier with this choice personally because the two books I kept are characters I like and the two books I "invested" in I would argue have more staying power.
  14. I am also curious. If a crash happened, I would feel fine because I have always bought for myself and my collection first and while I am sure I have books that could take a hit, I never paid much for them (or I sold comic to buy the comics so it is all a wash). I know there would be a LOT of new collectors (many of whom seem to survive from paycheck to paycheck and try to press and flip books) that might get hurt, thus eliminating what I think is a decent chunk of the demand. For perspective...I bought a collection off a guy recently who bought back stock from a shop that shutdown in the late 90s. The prices on some of those books were equal to (or less) than what they sell for today (ex. Batman/Spawn has a price of $120 on it). Killing Joke was priced at $75. Batman Death In The Family issues were priced $25-30 a pop. And really, these books are still close to that in value today. Now maybe that shop closed because these prices were extremely aggressive then but I have reason to believe that is what some of these books went for back then too.
  15. Yes this book has some staying power. I don't know about being a $1000 9.8 book or more for a while but could definitely see it settling upper 700-800 range demand realizes the supply is there. Maybe not though, maybe a grand is what people say "screw it, I'll pay" And that is the way. Today's collector can literally click on their phone, seach, click buy, pay and have it to them within a week. There seems to be little patience with collecting nowadays, at least amongst a large bunch of collectors/sellers.
  16. Yup Part of the problem with the market. A lot of "new" collectors (new to me meaning collectors who have started doing so within the last decade or so) just see an announcement or someone on social media platforms leak or rumour or speculate and BAM, they feel the need to have and buy. For example. Wandavision. Back in oh October of last year...was anyone a "fan" of White Vision? No Show comes, that version appears and wham...a dollar or so book is being sold for hundreds of dollars. These "instant" fans and (forgive me new collectors) somewhat unsavvy speculators just act before they think. Not all, but enough that it has caused a LOT of spikes in books that really don't deserve it. At least not to the degree we are seeing. Record sales for classic books? Sure. Record sales for high grade books of key characters like Hulk 181? Sure. This kind of stuff? No. And hey, maybe I am wrong and kick myself in 10 years when West Coast Avengers 45 is a $1000 book. I will admit defeat.
  17. Correct, sorry my original post should not say announced but rather rumoured...so these price hikes may all be for naught! Terrible time to try to buy this book IMO. Or rather, terrible time to use ebay to try to buy it. If one is in North America, this is a book you can find around for sure. Other parts of the world well I cant speak to that.
  18. The halo brown on the back will keep from VF. The other minor edge wear seen bumps it a bit lower. Safely a 6.5 from me.
  19. If you can make it work, that is great. For me though, ebay is not worth it is all. And I still can list a book and sell within days or week so that is a quick enough turnaround for me
  20. There are a zillions of facebook community sites, Instagram, Youtube auctions....you find the right groups and you will find deals to be had.
  21. I gave up selling on ebay in the past year and it has been glorious. Actually, I lied, I sold ONE book on ebay (some romance comic featuring Elvis that poeple pay for) so as to maximize my buying audience. Probably could have sold it by other means but that was the only sale on the bay I have made after almost using it exclusively. Between insane shipping charges and prices in general, I tend to avoid it now.
  22. Why would anyone ever sell those books on ebay? Plenty of other avenues to sell these days to avoid ebay. Only thing ebay is decent for is buying and even that is harder now with prices. You want deals and to maximize sales, there are plenty of other platforms that have emerged as better options.
