  1. Great point! Which is why every book I have posted covers a wide range. These are not all high grade books or low grade books. There is a healthy mix here folks and I feel confident that no matter which 13 are chosen, it will be a good variety. If it’s not, perhaps I will take the top 5 suggested from you folks and select the rest to round it out but.....let’s cross that bridge if we come to it
  2. Ah but it’s not about me! It’s about you guys and your desires:)
  3. I’ll take pics of the inside cover to the best of my ability
  4. Hi everyone! So I have officially been bitten by the CGC bug. In addition, I also felt that these forums needed a contest so let’s have one! I am not trying to compete with other great contests run here. If anything I want to give back and offer one as thanks for those who always do run contests and holiday exchanges and what not! So what is the contest? Well it will be a grading contest but as I am first and foremost a dad, this contest may not be as quick as ones you are used to. But I am going to do one. And here is how it will shake down. Phase 1: Helping Me Decide! That is what this thread is for! From now until April 30th, I want your help picking the books to send. I want you to pick ten modern books and three from what I will dub the “big boys” section. I will be providing a list to choose from and all you have to do is reply to this thread with your picks! I will reveal the books going in during the first week of May! Phase 2: The Grading Contest This will come later, likely during the summer. I will post pictures of the books and those wishing to officially partake in the contest can submit their grades for the books. There will also be prizes. We can have people donate and if no one does I will offer up a grand prize or something. We can figure that out. There will only be 13 books going in so we there will be a tie breakers in place. Phase 3: The Reveal and Prize Picking During the final phase, I will do a reveal video where I (along with you at your convenience) can see the grades. I will then tally results and we will announce prize picking orders. If we do this, I may need help having someone organize and new track of who picks what, provided it is decided that people want to donate prizes. Otherwise I will have a couple prizes for the top 3 winners who are the most accurate graders. So hopefully you all are up for a contest. To get the ball rolling let us start Phase 1!!!! From the following list, pick the ten books you would like to see submitted! 1. Thor 337 2. GI Joe 21 (Canadian Price Variant) 3. Avengers Annual 10 4. Predator 1 (first Dark Horse app) 5. 5. All over the board a bit although it seems the masses so far peg this one in the Fine range. It was advertised as VG which adds to the confusion. I do think it’s better than VG....might have to find out how much better...
  6. Good points! I think what I mean to say is this phase will not be impacted greatly by the end result of this show. But yes in terms of it being a “hey here is a character who becomes someone we could use” or “here is a character who joins this team in the comics”, definitely. How far away from a Young Avengers movie/show would we even be really? At least 5-10 years maybe more. And hey kudos to those who speculated in 2015 something that eventually happens in 2033!
  7. You haven’t heard that theory? Dunno where it stemmed from but originally Omega Red was speculated for the Black Widow movie. That caused a perennial $1-5 book to become a $20-40 book. And now once again someone has rumoured it for this show and it’s a $50-100 book. Crazy for a comic with a good half million copies out there
  8. This was what I was thinking. Overall while fun I have found this show to seemingly be predictable. And I get the feeling that, unlike Wandavision, the events from this show will not play largely into the MCU future. I could be very wrong. For all I know Omega Red shows up and confirms mutants in the MCU
  9. 5.0 and a press might flatten that spine and maybe get a 5.5. Might be a tad too much wear for a 6.0 but that would be the pie in the sky limit I feel
  10. Hi all, I had a question regarding a lot of the 80s comics that were done in 3-D. Many came with those flimsy 3-D glasses attached inside. If those are missing, does CGC treat that as a qualified grade? I am asking because I have a copy of 3-D Sheena Queen of The Jungle (lovely Dave Stevens cover) and it is a double cover so I am considering getting it graded. However the 3-D glasses are not inside. Not sure I want the qualified grade if that ends up being the case.... Any info is much appreciated!
  11. I found moments of this weeks episode to be rushed and awkward for the sake of moving the story along. I do like the direction of the story though, just for me certain moments seemed forced. Example being the scene with the therapist....very dumb and really not that funny. Also Bucky being arrested was weird. Maybe someone can explain why Sam is with the Air Force but not? Was he doing an illegal mission at the start of episode one? Or does he work for the Air Force? If so why did he call himself a freelancer to John Walker? It just seems like Sams position in the world and in this show seems ambiguous. He doesn’t have money but he obviously working but for free?....it’s weird
  12. Picked this up because why not....curious what people thinks. Flaws of note include: -wrinkle (NOT a tear) on leading edge -crease near Falcons leg -light corner wear Oh and a date stamp but that’s 5% of the reason I bought it
  13. You could be right! Only a CGC submission would truly verify what the “standard” says
  14. 5.0 from me. Might get a 5.5 but I don’t see any higher and lower is too harsh.
  15. If the book is flawless otherwise, no it won’t affect as it is a production error. Granted there exist some very very bad production errors that do factor in (there are some pretty bad miswraps and miscuts out there) but this shouldn’t be one of them.
  16. Oh and even with my above approach I still make errors
  17. So for me I’ve used countless grading books and other visual references. I spent a full two years as just a lurker to these forums before I ever officially signed up and made my first post. I constantly viewed the “Hey Buddy can you spare a grade?” to test my ability and especially looked for ones where people posted the results. Heck I still view that thread to make sure my grading is as good as it can be when assessing my own books. When I grade one of my own books, I go over it front and back and check the centrefold and ensure completeness. Takes me all of a minute or two to assign a general range (ex 4.0-5.0) and then I try to hone in on where I think it falls exactly and note that for my reference. If I am selling a book I know others may be harsher than I so I include lots of pictures and always try to give a lower grade or a range. So if I think it is a 9.0, I’ll call it an 8.0-8.5 if selling. Just to ensure I don’t have unhappy customers and (knocks head on wooden table) in 20 years of selling (I sell maybe 100-200 comics a year), I’ve never had a complaint. That’s how I grade. Good lighting is important, just a strong overhead light to really see imperfections.
  18. I know in the comics Torres becomes Falcon at some point and I believe he is generally a good guy but when he was telling Sam about the Flag Smashers at the start, something seemed off about his character. Like he has something to hide....
  19. The December date on the comic is not the date it was released. Comics back in the day were released a few months before the month noted on the cover. If you have never check out the following site, it’s great for showing when comics actually hit newsstands back in the day. A quick check confirms that your Avengers issue hit the stands in October of 1967 http://www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/newsstand.php?publisher=all&type=calendar&month=10&year=1967&sort=alpha
  20. I’m guessing they don’t. And the minor colour touch would have to be super minor for them to miss underneath a stamp
