Did Fin Fang Foom inspire famed designer Carlo Rambaldi to design Aliens and ET?

Fin Fang Foom and Alien look similar due to the long neck and long tail.

    Your thought?

    I don't think so

Triple F looks more like the combination of a dragon/Dinosaur/iguana

Aliens in their inception look like an arachnid...I'd have to give some thought to what might have inspired their evolution

A new thread for us Golden boys & girls, to cheer us up.

    Criteria for posting.

    1. You own the book/s

    2. You will not part with them in your lifetime if you can help it.

Post your treasures that you love, but will absolutely not part with them, or sell them.

For me, I have a handful of books that I regard as totally NFS, but I only have 3 absolute keepers that I will not part with, and one on the way to me.

    These are my humble three....

I don't have any Golden Age books

Thanks for thinking of me :sorry:

After the news that CGC will now offer grading range estimates based on scans, I realized that I need to hurry and get my piece of the pie while I still can find ways to more efficiently serve my loyal customer base. So here it is: a chance to harness my extensive experience of looking at scans on this very board.

Current turnaround times range from 7 minutes to six months or more. Please review the tiers below, and find the grading estimate that is right for YOU!

Point Five Grading Estimate: $5 tier (Budget Level)

Based on scans, I'll give you a grade of either (G) or (NG). You won't have any idea what grade your book is, but you will sleep much easier knowing that it does indeed have one.

    --

Point Five Grading Estimate: $10 tier (Standard Level)

Based on scans, I'll give you back a grade within a 5 point grade range, i.e. if your book is a 3.5, I'll give you back an estimate of 1.0 to 6.0. At this tier I'll probably only look at your scans on my phone while my kid is punching me.

    --

Point Five Grading Estimate: $20 tier (Prime Level)

Based on scans, I'll give you a grade estimate within a 3 point grade range, i.e. if your book is a 3.5, I'll give you back an estimate of 2.0 to 5.0. No phone grades at this tier; I'll be looking at your scans on my monitor while eating lunch.

    --

Point Five Grading Estimate: $50 tier (Preferred Level)

Based on scans, I'll give you a grade estimate within a 1 point grade range, i.e. if your book is a 3.5, I'll give you back an estimate of 3.0 to 4.0. I'll be looking at your scans on my monitor while eating lunch, but I'll wipe the screen first.

    --

Point Five Grading Estimate: $200 tier (Elite Level)

At this tier, you will ship the actual book to me, and I will just ship it on to CGC and let them deal with it. Because they are trained professionals who know what they're doing, and I'm just a guy horsing around on the internet.

    --

That's about it folks. Operators are standing by!

(Just having some fun here; please note that this bit of comedy gold is done with all love and respect towards our generous hosts.) :foryou:

First-time buyers, feel free to use the OHF*CKITSBRITTLE codeword to receive 15% off your first order.

Can I pay for all of them? I feel more comfortable if my book falls in the grade scale from NG to 10

I think it was the Steel City show in Monroeville, PA in 2011.  Maybe 2010

I was at this show and found a dealer I had never seen before.  A local guy that hardly ever sets up.

He had four wall books I was interested in; I estimated all four to be 2.5s.

    • FF #1
    • FF #1
    • TTA #1
    • X-Men #1

The Fantastic Fours were $1200 each.  I forget the prices of the TTA and X-Men.  I had about a grand on me.  Since this dealer didn't know me, he wouldn't take a check and couldn't take a credit card.

I ended up with the X-Men #1 and TTA #1 for $800.  What I could have done was go to a dealer friend that was setup there and grabbed the cash for one or two of the FF #1s and gave him a check.  He would have been OK with that.

I don't know if this post is more about regret or greed.

Definitely regret, but did you sell the X-Men and TTA yet?

it is weird, i think the distinctions between 9.6 and 9.8 are probably imaginary 50% of the time and am not obsessed with it for raw books, but when I am plopping down money on modern slabs on the few books I am interested in, I want a 9.8..... move me to the BA and most CA and I don't care as much (basically because I am looking to pay value of raw + cost of slabbing)...

Agreed 100% if it's modern. And it's strange there isn't much difference between 9.8 and 9.6 and if you enlarge those photos of the corners and spine you took of your 9.8 you'll think it's a 5.5. The difference between.9.8 and 9.6 in terms of value is considerable. When it comes to moderns I'm buying the grade as much as I'm buying the book

Omega Men 3 is on a nice steady climb - still think 1st Lobo is completely undervalued

especially when you have books like 1st Omega Red and 1st Bishop going for more.

Most DC keys are....I expected New Gods 1 to rise but after the cancelation by WB I expect it to remain at what it is because Kirby Keys are Kirby Keys.....Forever People has rose...but then again they are Bronze not Copper

    Hi everyone!

I started collecting comics in the early 1980s.  By 1985, I was bagging and boarding everything I could afford.  I stopped in the early 1990s.  I just got back into the hobby, and discovered the prices have exploded.  I've got Amazing Spider-Man 260 through 340 (including 299-301) in great condition.  I also have the Dark Knight series, and ll of the great Batmans from the 80s (Year one, killing joke), the Captain Americas with John Walker, She-Hulk, West Coast Avengers, and some books like the A-Team and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Adventures that I'm really shocked about the price.  I also have a few silver and bronze age Marvels in varying condition.  I wanna send 50 or more into CGC, but need some help.  Also, is now a good time to sell some with the market being so hot, or should I hold off?

    Thanks!

    Welcome

I'd definitely submit that ASM 300, such a Hot book!

Congrats on building a decent collection, so many different platforms to use to find out what is valuable and what is readable! As you can see by the great help from the Boardies!

Since we typically just voice complaints, I want to give kudos to CGC on the last submission of Silver and Bronze books I received. Some of the books are for building a couple of extra early X-Men runs, and the grading was nice and strict. All of the books in the submission have great eye appeal for the grade. Thanks and keep it up!

I am pretty sure I posted my ticket to the club some years ago, but I am really happy that I still own it. I hadn't checked GPA on this for a couple of years and boy was I surprised to see that out of the sudden its probably the most valuable book in my little collection.

I got this book in 2016 and considered then that it was really undervalued. Kinda bummed that I waited to get X-Men #4 "sometime later"... O.o

Have you considered getting it cleaned and pressed? Or are you gonna leave it in the Ole slaberino?
