The rust from the staple has spread to the paper. You will notice the brown staining migrating from the rusted staple. I could attempt all of this in French and although it is my first language, I haven't used it many, many years .

I don't even have a top ten anymore....in terms of value I have 1 book that is as valuable as my entire collection put together....I do have a top 4 tho, as you can see 1 of those books is worth 5 ASM 300 9.8s

Another way to look at the difference in prices between 9.8 and 9.9 is to just think of the grading fees alone.
There are 1,966 copies of Web of Spider-Man #1 graded by CGC as 9.8 or higher, but only 12 that are CGC 9.9 or higher.
So there are 163 books graded CGC 9.8 for every one book graded CGC 9.9 on Web of Spider-Man #1.
The grading fees (and cost of shipping) alone for those 163 CGC 9.8s were over $4,000, and every one of those was a "hopeful" CGC 9.9 (but graded 9.8 instead).
If people collectively spent $4,000+ just on the cost of grading, hoping to reach CGC 9.9 (but failing), then the price of actually buying a CGC 9.9 already graded is more like buying a lottery ticket that's already a winner. You won't be getting a guaranteed lottery winner for anywhere near the price of an unscratched one if the odds were 163-to-1 against winning.

Very cool! I found mine in a shop around Pittsburgh about 6 or so years ago. Couldn’t pull the money out of my pocket fast enough.

to get hyped up when there was a couple hours left in the auction is not good for your health lol... the real bids dont come in until the final moments. you should know that.

Hollywood1892 reacted to silverseeker in X-MEN #1 club
I wonder if the PQ combined with the tanning and chipping at the right edge of the first book and the top edge of the second book has people concerned that those specific areas might be brittle?
In the earlier days of the X-Men #1 runup these types of defects did not seem to matter as much, but maybe things are changing.
There's still plenty of time left in both auctions for each book to jump substantially...

Hollywood1892 reacted to RickSp in ASM 300 heating up
So is this book destined to trend like IH181? A book that has no shortage of availability in all grades, but one that continually demands a high price through pure popularity of the character. It's gone past the 30 year mark now too so pretty old really. Which is also weird as back in the mid 90s I felt like getting a book from the silver age was ancient! The gap from ASM300 to now doesn't feel like much at all.
Is was mentioned a few pages back that 10k for a 9.8 could be a point it stalls for a while. If it powers through that barrier then there's nothing to stop it!
