  1. Apologies if there has been a Strikeforce: Morituri thread already. I did a search and didn't find one, only mentions of how cheap old copies of it are, and posts about how it flamed out in "Marvel's Dropping Sales," etc. I've been rereading this and think it was an amazing book ahead of its time. Very dark, and I'm amazed they let kids (myself included!) read it. Humans are under attack by the evil alien "Horde" and as a last resort, humans develop "The Morituri Process," which gives a select few people superhuman powers to defend Earth. The only catch is the injection kills them after a year. Hence "Morituri" ("We who are about to die.") Our heroes are willingly sacrificing themselves to defend Earth. The first pics are the first time we see one of our heroes die. The real kick in the gut is that this happens only after a couple of months; meaning we the reader and our heroes have just learned that they don't have a year...they have UP TO a year. This is done beautifully and tragically immediately after a victory, which needless to say, taints the moment. Unlike nearly every other Marvel/DC comic, the heroes by definition stay dead. I think this would be a terrific show, and Googled around to see if it was attempted. Apparently SyFy tried in 2002 but the show never took off. The third pic shows how dark the book can get. The evil "Alien Horde" has mutilated human captives, decapitating them, but keeping the head and voice box alive. The head is installed into a combat droid, emitting a blood curling shriek as psychological warfare. The concept, art, and writing on this book was excellent, at least the first year, and I hope someday another TV producer discovers it since they are throwing money at every other comic book under the sun nowadays. EDIT: Also, apparently Strikeforce: Morituri was part of the Marvel Universe, since they made sure to throw in a room of the alien Horde’s “trophies,” which included Captain America’s shield and Galactus’ helmet. (Bottom left of final photo.)
  2. How does this compare to C2E2? Looks like they both have amazing selections of books. But maybe Baltimore possibly even better at books and less cosplay/celebrities?
  3. Good lord. Is that FOUR Amazing Fantasy 15's??? and three Tales of Suspense 39s?? Man, those guys don't mess around.
  4. I've lost track of who is arguing what, or even what is happening. Reminds me of the arguing airport PA voices at the beginning of Airplane! "The white zone is for comics that are niche but not TOO niche but are a niche of a niche but a nice niche..."
  5. To that point, at ACE Comicon in Rosemont, IL last weekend, Larry Hama charged 20 bucks per SS signature, but any raw signature was free. I heard him tell one guy with a couple of raw books, "You're a dedicated fan. No charge."
  6. Thanks, all! They helped me get 9 books signed by Larry Hama. Now just to wait and see how it all shakes down with the grades.
  7. Here are two new covers I loved that show what is going on the issue. The Moonshine issue does have a “poster” feel but also captures the essence of the issue. And the Prodigy cover says the story - the hero does indeed fight a shark underwater.
  8. Drew me a couple sketches and signed/witnessed 5 of my books. So basically I’m the Lord Commander of Comics today.
  9. Just wondering if anyone had used them before. Wanted to get them to witness/grade some G.I. Joes for Larry Hama at ACE Comiccon.
  10. Jerry Seigel story Joe Shuster cover and art Henry Cavill weird CGI "Justice League" mustache-free face
  11. And was in the G.I. Joe movie! (Yes, the movie was terrible....but they made not one but TWO big budget movies based on his creation with legit stars...and put him in them.)
  12. Sooo if we just invite him to C2E2, put up a bunch of balloons next to the CGC booth, have a table of pretzels, Revolution IPA, and Diet Coke, and call it an “industry event,” we can get him to hang, sign books. And toss them straight to CGC for grading! Boom! Hug it out!!
  13. That is very sad. And also unfathomable to me. He created toys, comic books, and a TV show simultaneously. All insanely popular and creative. Perfect blend of fantasy with enough realism to stay grounded. Issue 21 is a masterpiece, IMO. I FB messaged him as well, and requested C2E2 try to get him next year. Guy is definitely an unappreciated genius. Very humble from the interviews I’ve seen. Is his Facebook the “I’ve been faking it all my life” one?
  14. Awesome, thanks. I’ll try that. Oh we’re in comics general now. Done.
  15. I just asked them via Twitter and email. Really want to get some Hama signed, CGC witnessed G.I. Joes. Wondering if any of the Wise Masters here have any input. Thanks.
  16. It did put the fear of God in me. I feel like a great white shark stared at me, opened its mouth.... teeth glistening, dead black eyes sizing me up... then it just swims by me. Ahhh thanks, all! I can breathe now. Nothing will ever happen bad now! I am invincible... INVINCIBLE, I tell you!! HAHAHAHAHAAAAAA. I’m not crazy, you’re crazy! You’re all crazy!! HAHAHAHAHA.. Seriously, what were we talking about?
  17. Can anyone shed any light on this? No grader notes. This is the original slab. There was a slight crack on the right side when I received it in the mail, which I had reholdered.
  18. NoMan is eligible for a famous 1980’s GI Joe “No-Prize.”
  19. I loved this one - Epic's 1987 Marshal Law. 6 issue limited series. Great social commentary and art. A super hero who hates other superheroes because they are all going crazy and becoming power hungry.
  20. Oh, well! I sent it back for a reholder. You're right - I am being nitpicky, but I just wanted the slab to be clean. It's on the way, so fingers crossed it comes back perfect this time around!
