  1. Lots of great suggestions! Here is a character I actually bought off the stands in the 1970's. I thought this character looked great and the Joe Kubert art was the main selling point for me. Didn't he actually appear in the Arrowverse?
  2. Bought this many years ago. I actually got it cheap because of the stamp. It seemed this was considered a defect back in the day.
  3. I love Paladin! I hope he works way into the mcu!
  4. I am collecting obscure Marvel and DC characters introduced in the Bronze Age. I consider this one of those eras where let's throw whatever we can against the wall and see what sticks. Have any suggestions? Nothing is out of bounds here. I will start off with
  5. Didn't Marvel do a series that explored the FF before they became the FF? Where they fought off monsters and alien invasions?
  6. It’s interesting that marvel pre-hero comics still count as part of the marvel universe. So what would be the very first post golden age marvel comic that officially starts the marvel universe? Many would agree fantastic four 1 is the start….or is it?
  7. Very interesting. So Carlo Strange is Marvel's first use of the character Dr.Strange. I have not read the story so what was the deal? Why did he fight Ironman? I think, and this is speculation only, either Stan or Steve or both liked the name and decided to re-use and create it as a hero. So what happened to Carlo Strange? What if he was related to Stephen?
  8. I don't know what happened to this version but he is in the marvel universe. maybe he can come back under a different name.
  9. Ok. So now there was a character before the hero Dr. Strange that was a villain? How did the process begin to turn a villain into a hero? Wouldn’t that have caused confusion? I know that the hulk (renamed titan) proceeded the hero hulk so there may have been precedence.
  10. Has anyone seen it? Does anyone care?
  11. There must have been some ill feelings toward Dr.Strange at Marvel. Out of all the major new characters it took him 59 issues in Strange Tales for him to finally get his own solo series. Antman never got a solo series but he was featured on the cover for quite some time until Hulk began to share his covers and eventually took over.
  12. I think that comics back then were to attract the kid reader and it was designed to catch the eye immediately. Artists back then had to do the best they could on a tight deadline.
  13. Interesting that Johnny is not wearing his Fantastic Four costume. I guess his regular clothes are also unstable molecules.
  14. Did Stan Lee actually create Dr. Strange? I am beginning to feel that he had very little to do with the creation of the character and this was strictly a Ditko affair.
  15. I agree. With slabbing the covers have become actually more important than the contents which I find ironic since comics were meant to be read. Out of all the silver age marvel debuts it seems that Dr.Strange got the short straw. I would love to know the story behind that.
  16. What's funny is that through out Dr.Strange's run in Strange Tales he had to share the cover with Human Torch and usually it wasn't much. It wasn't until issue 130 where he got most of the cover and not until 146 he actually get a full cover. I have a feeling someone at Marvel wanted to keep Dr.Strange down and it wasn't until much later after he became somewhat popular that he got his own series. Hell, Nick Fury of SHIELD got more promotion than Strange.
  17. Ah ha. That is interesting. A bit out of the ordinary. A theory I had was that strange was a strictly ditto creation and Stan only added his name in the end
  18. I love Dr.Strange and I know he first appears in Strange Tales #110 but I always wondered why he was not promoted on the cover. What is the story behind this. I know Stan Lee was a big promoter of any new character so it seems "strange" that he did not do so in this case. Does anyone know the back story? Did Ditko do a cover with him but was rejected? What is more surprising is that Dr.Strange himself does not appear on the cover until issue 118. Did Marvel not have any faith in this character at the time?
  19. It seems odd to me that CGC can grade posters but can't grade treasury editions. What gives?
  20. Picked this up this past weekend for 50¢. A very underrated series!
  21. So I picked this up out of the 50¢ box. This might be the worst Liefeld cover ever? Agree? Have a worst cover?
