  1. Haha, no I didnt notice. But I don't mind, I got to learn that books with signature can still get a 9.8 blue label.
  2. Is Spidey 98 a non key? Seems like Slabbing a 9.0 added a 10$ value. not great when you consider slabbing it is anywhere from 30-50$
  3. If I were you and your goal was just to sell the comics, I would simply sell them as such. Grading these will cost you quite a bit of money and you won't get much in return. See below example, the difference between a non CGC and a CGC copy of a good looking Spider-man 98 was 10$. Grading it will cost you about 50$, sounds like a terrible return. Plus, the market preffers signed raw books (what you have) than non Signature Series CGC holders (meaning slabbed comics where the signature was not witnessed). You might even end up getting less for them because of the signature within a CGC label. TLDR: Just sell them raw, you'll make some good money. Do you have an idea of how much CGC removes from the grade for such a defect?
  4. I found something similar, what do you think of this e-bay seller, should they be avoided? They state that their comic is NM or higher and yet we see a pic of a slabbed comic and a non slabbed comic. I don't know what's going on here. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Starslayer-Issue-2-Pacific-Comics-NM-1982-1st-Rocketeer-L2F4-Amricons/362834133096?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131003132420%26meid%3D60fd22322323497a88a0c9296b113eec%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dpf%26sd%3D303283922084%26itm%3D362834133096%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851
  5. Sure, CCS, it's on this very same site https://www.cgccomics.com/submit/services-fees/ccs/
  6. CGC doesn't have this show on their events page https://www.cgccomics.com/submit/events/
  7. I thought so too but that's what others call it, I don't know why
  8. That's a pretty cool case to look into. Dumb question but, why is the acronym OOAW?
  9. There isn't much of a market for these. Most definitely not worth any hassle on your part. If you want to get rid of them, I would suggest donating them to a daycare, library or school.
  10. There was a way around that. My friend is a huge spidey fan and also big on signatures. Ditko was a crazy pipe dream. But, as I said, he responded to all his fan mail. So I sent him a letter with a postage paid spidey postcard. He signed his reply and there you go, a Spidey piece signed by Ditko for his wedding present (along with a nice copy of ASM 19).
  11. Thanks man! And yeah, there was lots of fun to be had at that meeting
  12. No problem. I know GA is the wild west but I wouldn't have it any other way. You're not just owning a comic, you are owning a foundation stone for what we have today.
  13. Ok so here is my Detective Comics 880. It is direct edition (not a huge surprise, I bought it in a comic shop, though I have no clue who else would sell this outside of those). And it looks freaken fantastic. I spotted some defects on my saga 1 and asm 361 (not stopping from a 9.8 from what I hear) but this one is perfect as far as I can tell. EXCEPT... I had it signed by Jock when I met him years ago. I knew I had met him but didn't remember if this book had come out by the time I met him or not. So that kind of sucks for CGC. Since I am keeping it for myself, I might go for the CBCS authentication service just to have it in a non green case with that nice number, since even though that service sounds wonky for potential buyers, in this case I know he signed it. Surprised how good it looks knowing I lugged this around in a suitcase and handled it quite a bit at the show.
  14. Sure thing, I will post that adventure 260 again. Can't believe how cheap it is, and the guy even accepts offers. I paid less than guide for mine but seeing this makes me feel I still overpaid. Adventure Comics 260 is also 50% off guide on e-bay right now (the seller claims it's a 5.0 but it's more likely a 4.0) https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Adventure-Comics-260-1st-SA-origin-Aquaman-VG-FN-5-0-DC-1959/164068448953?hash=item26333ddab9:g:iu0AAOSweaBeGiZl And Action Comics 255 (first bizarro lois) at 50% off guide https://www.ebay.ca/itm/ACTION-COMICS-255-VG-1st-BIZARRO-LOIS/283777526305?hash=item4212756a21:g:x3oAAOSwpBpdBBb2 It's an aution but no one bid last time so anyone going for the minimum bid will likely get it. Not sure why there is so little enthusiasm for these.
  15. As far as I know, you can choose to just have a reholder fee or a grading fee. If you choose a reholder fee and there is no sign of tampering, then they won't grade it again. After all, you're not paying them to.
  16. Haha, sure I don't mind doing more reading, by all means send some links. To answer the bolded part, yes seeing it as a hard reboot does make sense, I agree with that. But a reboot is still regarding the same character (like Andrew Garfield's spider-man being a reboot of Tobey Maguire's Spider-man with different power sets and such). Hence why I don't find Silver Age Flash or Green Lantern (or the Human Torch on Marvel's side) to be hard reboots. I personally see them as new characters. The analogy with hawkman is perfect though, I 100% agree on that, they are very similar that way in terms of their publication history and their changes in character from gold to silver.
  17. Yeah, it's more off putting to the buyer than it is to the grader. So 3.0 sounds fair, since the centerfold is still attached at one staple. Can't be higher than that though.
  18. 9.8 here we come! By the way, I do wish to thank you all for your help. While I do buy modern books (I am subscribed to Detective and Saga for instance), I would not have known that they were worth something. I mean I had an idea of Saga to some extent but didn't know about tec 880 at all. And I thought I was doe for with my ASM 361. I will still keep them for myself, but I do like the idea of having them slabbed.
  19. That's an awesome story, I am glad it worked out for you. My Saga 1 one has a nick on the bottom of the spine too, not sure how common that is on that book either. But when it comes to these happy surprises though, this is what comes to mind:
  20. Thanks valiantman, I don't know which one I have, will take a look tonight. Is one rare than the other? I know news stand editions were rare for 90s books but I don't know if that's the case with modern era books.
  21. How do we know which is which? Are there pics someone could provide? Not sure which one I have.
  22. Look at previous auction wins on e-bay comparing what the same book gets in a 9.8 and a 9.6. if the 9.8 gets much more than the cost of a press than go for the press. While it might not boost a grade, at least it could confirm the grade you were thinking. And remember, a lot of people overestimate grades, especially new collectors. if you want to get a 9.6 or 9.8 and want to send it to pressing, make sure there is no colour break anywhere on the covers, since those will not be taken out with a press. Also, I asked the same question here and people were kind to reply so you may get more answers:
  23. Just curious, is this about good deals we got or also about good deals to be had, like a heads up? Because if so, Adventure Comics 260 is 50% off guide on e-bay right now (the seller claims it's a 5.0 but it's more likely a 4.0) https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Adventure-Comics-260-1st-SA-origin-Aquaman-VG-FN-5-0-DC-1959/164068448953?hash=item26333ddab9:g:iu0AAOSweaBeGiZl
