  1. Certainly the evidence would tend to support your thesis. Far too stiff and cartoony. No real sense of design or storytelling. Eisner just didn't work hard enough. Far too laid back. Definitely not one of the masters.
  2. Just to stir things up a bit. I would say that the best comic book artists are the best storytellers (sequential art). (It would be a given that mastery of anatomy and perspective would a part of this ability.) This would mean that they would need some scope in which to demonstrate this. This would be both in terms of the page length of their stories (storytelling) and the length of time that they were working in the field (body of work). I would also think that their influence upon peers and successors would be of significance. How would Frazetta's body of comic book art fit within these parameters?
  3. supply when a book gets hot what usually seems to happen is 1. People pull their mid-high grade slabs from the market (ebay, websites, even physical stores) to see how high it will go so they can get top dollar. 2. People start going through their long boxes of dreck to see if they have it, and if they do they "cash out" selling at above market prices as they "ride the wave" of the books inflation. 3. Some of those people send decent/higher grade raws off to CGC so theres a month or two lull as new inventory (that intends to sell) gets slabbed. 4. As those raw issues return to the owners they usually put them on the market, and we start to see supply creep up to meet the demand. 5. At that point those original holders back at #1 decide that if the market has topped off, and worry about the influx of availability and they decide to sell their copies too (unless they think its gonna keep rising, at which point they continue to hold) this seemed to happen with IM55 and many other "movie" related books... A fine summary. The moment there is a sniff of a movie connection --- speculators go crazy and everyone becomes a speculator. As the entire Marvel Universe will soon be on film -- every Marvel comic book will be a key -- which entitles every book to be very expensive regardless of intrinsic merit. And three sumos just because ...
  4. And these phrases only seem to used when the book is miscut, miswrapped, poor paper quality, looks burnt, has a dust shadow or SCS.
  5. It seems clear to me a deal was made in PM. To have this first in the thread wins -- would mean that the last statement in PM by the seller should be to remind the purchaser that the deal is not cemented until goes into the thread. I am willing to believe that the seller and buyer had considered the book sold through PM.
  6. This seems to be getting unnecessarily complex. If someone buys something from you and you have their money -- send it to them as soon as you can. If they're rude to you, don't do business with them again. It's not rocket science. Get rid of the egos.
  7. For some reason I don't feel need to get my pitchforck and torch yet. The guy said when he would ship them and its been what a week since? I think you may have missed the part where the seller unilaterally canceled the order.
  8. Guess not. One could easily argue that it clearly states that the "I'll take it" must be in the thread.
  9. I understand where you are coming from but the deal was done. Offer, acceptance, money sent. Feelings hurt and money sent back just isn't the way it is done.
  10. I had my finger on the 'take it' trigger on that book well before the conditional taker's post. I likewise held off because of several issues in the initial thread specification, including the fact that no rules were specified (not to mention the OP's clearly revealed state of being at the time...don't need the drama A good and considered point. If a friend phoned me up one evening to sell a book cheaply and they sounded drunk, I'd say call me back in the morning.
  11. Not always true. I pay immediately and actually had a long-time seller comment that is the fastest he has ever been paid. Took weeks and a series of reminders until I got my books. If this were true I'd be motivated to pay faster I currently have 12 purchases in the mail. I received the 1st yesterday which was one of the last purchases. I also got an email today saying my comic was going out tomorrow and this is the 3rd purchase I made all over a one week period. There is only one purchase that may be delayed by customs. I am going to argue that that my statement still stands. No matter how slow the vendor is in getting the book into the mail , they aren't even going to think about sending it until I pay. Therefore the sooner I pay, the sooner I get my book. Why add my sloth to the seller's?
  12. I am not convinced that a slab is the safest place to protect a book wherein the smallest dent is akin to looses vast amounts of money. I wouldn't even want to transport it any distance.
  13. Because some people don't sit around waiting for comic book auctions to end? I guess the next time I have a bid on an item that ends at 2 am, I need to set my alarm so that I can get up and paypal it. Lord knows it can't wait until morning, or *gasp* the afternoon? That's crazy talk. I'm pretty sure that is Oakman's point. If an auction ends at an inconvenient time on any given day, check it the next day and, if you won, pay for it. It's business. You "started it" by bidding. No need to let it sit.
  14. Actual with time travel the book could arrive any time you want. In fact, I might even have the book right now.
  15. You took the time and effort to do the work -- and it is work. Well done.
  16. The rules for the Probation List should be followed as its purpose is to encourage people to solve problems. Whether or not Symbiotic is on the list does not change the person that he is -- nor does his removal sanction any of his past actions.
  17. I've spent probably the last 20 years trying to recapture a little of what it was like when I was 10 in 1977. That was fun. Wisdom.
  18. Though for all the pedants in the audience, KKO 106 came out the month before Hulk 3 --June vs. July.
