  1. In the spirit of nostalgic reprint books, these two are new to the collection in the sense that I just unslabbed and scanned both. The first is an 8.5 (reposted for comparison) and the second is a 9.4.
  2. Nice book. I absolutely loved these reprint books as a kid. They were the only way to learn what happened in early Timely/Marvel. No eBay or comic book stores and the only collectors were young teens like oneself. Understanding the history of a company, book or hero was quite the amateur historian's job.
  3. Thanks for posting. P G Wodehouse is my favorite author. Looks like X-ray specs from the comic book ads. The Man with X-ray Eyes -- a 1963 movie. Scary film.
  4. I got a haircut not too long ago and I show up with a hoodie and black pants when I apply. Hoodie=fail... Haircut/combed and clean shaven Shirt and tie. Show some pride and separate yourself from everyone else Yes. Shirt and tie and some well-polished black shoes.
  5. Ask a boardie in the business field to PM you if they are willing to review your resume. 100 submissions at an entry level without a response may indicate a flaw in the resume.
  6. Cracked out -- only one staple. Did the CGC know?
  7. Extra points for having read the book.
  8. Not new to the collection but now liberated from its slab. On the newsstand in February of 1966.
  9. It's what dads do. (thumbs u
  10. I've always enjoyed Simak's work. Though I no longer have a copy, I remember Time and Again as a thought provoking work and somewhere I have my Ace copy of City. Thanks for the posting.
  11. it is a bit of a lament. Nothing beats a run of a book if you enjoy reading a comic book's mythos as it develops. Early Lee/Ditko Spider-Mans, Lee/Kirby FFs up to #51 and perhaps any of Lee/Ditko's Doctor Strange illustrate the possibilities of exploring and caring about fantasy characters and worlds. The original books bring you closer to the newsstand -- and being 12 again.
  12. With paper showing through the top staple and the writing on the cover, I am going to go with 5.0/5.5.
  13. Or ask for a back cover scan and then make a decision to take it. The only purpose of taking it pending a scan is to try to take it off of the market while one decides if it is what they want.
  14. Again, I don't think so. However, sellers make unnecessary duress for themselves if they say that "taking it" in the thread trumps all as there is that race to run to the thread. Sellers can make it easier if they just go by the timestamp. If I post a book before bedtime and I log in the next day to see that someone took it in the thread and someone sent a PM saying that they would take it. Honor the time stamp. It comes across to me as simple greed. "I am sorry. I know we made a deal but someone else wanted to pay more. They used the loop hole I set up against the possibility that I could squeeze out a couple of extra dollars -- regardless of your good faith negotiations. Thank you for playing."
  15. To be fair to the original poster, he was probably unaware that the first thing some boardies would do would be seek context by tracking down the transaction.
  16. Insurance isn't expensive and it's peace of mind on bigger ticket items. (thumbs u
  17. I think there is an element beyond just passing on sellers when there are no pictures. As collectors, there is an irritation factor when you see a book you need but you can't judge it. First world problem? Granted.
  18. You can add to this the concept of taking pride in what one does.
  19. I have no skin in this game but I watched an " pending scan" trump a later posted by a different buyer. A seller can sell whatever way he/she wishes but It seems to me that " pending scan" is another way of saying "still in negotiations". The scan has to be viewed and then an offer to buy is made. The later means . I also noted that the seller never mentioned the option of "pending scan" in their sales terms but did mention that overrides any PMs.
  20. Yes. I saw this, too. Interesting strategy. No way for this to go wrong.
  21. It's a bit of an old story for me. Is it worth the extra money and time to wait for a better copy? I usually answer, yes. This is my answer given that I crack out my books and, to be honest, I do not know how rare or historically significant this particular book is. If it's a book that you may not see again ....
  22. Looks good as it is (thumbs u I agree. The red bottom shelf works.
  23. Probably because if PP finds out a seller is abusing personal in this way, they will get shut down. That's exactly how I understood it. But, if it's permitted behavior, how do you abuse it? What does "frequently" even mean? When does abuse begin? Why can't they just state a clear policy, and interpret it consistently? Surely there is someone who works at PayPal who can figure out how to do that... I don't find unclear. Don't use it if you* are a merchant. If you are in doubt as to whether you sell enough to be a merchant ask PayPal. If you are a collector making the occasional sale to fellow collectors -- then you decide based upon how much protection you want from PayPal. It just calls for judgment --- and if I can be grumpy here -- Heaven knows there's enough of that on the Internet. _____________________________ * I don't mean you in particular, Edowens. I just chose your post as you had the last series of questions.
